Brooke Shields celebrates 60th birthday in bikini on the beach

Brooke Shields is proving age is just a number with new social media posts. The "Mother of the Bride" star took to Instagram over the weekend to celebrate her 60th birthday with photos of her lounging on the beach in her bikini. "Woke up today in paradise… and in a new decade of life! This is 6️⃣0️⃣! Thank you for all of the birthday love," she captioned the post. The photos featured Shields sitting in a hammock on the shore in a black bikini, which she accessorized with a sun hat and a chunky gold chain choker and sand-covered feet. Her famous friends quickly flooded the comments sections with well-wishes, with Christie Brinkley writing "Happy Birthday Beauty 60 looks GREAT on you," and Ricki Lake adding, "Yes Queen! Happy milestone Birthday!" In a separate Instagram post, shared on the account of her haircare brand, Commence, Shields spelled out "propaganda we're not falling for" anymore, writing in the caption, "We're not making any more time for nonsense." "That 60 means slowing down. That change is only for your twenties," the list written on the screen said. "That it's too late to learn something new. That my best days are in the rearview. That women 'of a certain age' aren't a force to be reckoned with. That I don't deserve products made specifically for me. That not every day can be a good hair day." "Woke up today in paradise… and in a new decade of life! This is 6️⃣0️⃣! Thank you for all of the birthday love." Shields is no stranger to sharing bikini photos. The star took to Instagram in April, to share photos from her time in the Bahamas, in which she posed on the beach in a black and white bikini. Having started her career at a young age, Shields has often spoken out about how difficult it was to grow up in the spotlight, telling AARP The Magazine in March 2024 she felt as if beauty "was a burden and a responsibility," but that now it "means freedom." "The 'Pretty Baby' documentary definitely empowered me," she explained. "I had never seen my life in its entirety. It made me feel very proud of my resilience and that little girl. I would be shocked as a kid to know that there would come a time that I would feel like I was enough. I would be shocked if I knew that I would one day really be confident and like myself." The 2023 documentary, "Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields," chronicled the actress' life as a sexualized young actress and model, "to a woman who embraces her identity and voice," according to the description on Hulu. When speaking with AARP The Magazine, she explained she has grown accustomed to hearing other people's opinions about her appearance, saying "it's an affront to people if Brooke Shields gets older." "You can't grow up, you cannot age. It's disappointing to them that I don't have the same face I had when I was 16," she said. "But it's been so liberating for me not to worry about it all the time. The pressure of being skinny is just so exhausting. I like food, and I like tequila!" She further discussed aging in Hollywood in her memoir, "Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old."

Harmony runs in the family

A blend of classic ballads and jazz-infused vocals by mother-daughter duo by AKMAR ANNUAR AFTER decades of building their own distinct musical paths, Salamiah Hassan and her daughter Atilia Haron will share the same stage for the first time in a full-length concert this August. Titled Konsert Gelombang Bahagiaku, the show is set to take place on August 16 at the Plenary Theatre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). It is presented by Mujik Wand Production and marks a rare intergenerational collaboration between two singers whose voices have defined different eras of Malaysian music. While Salamiah is celebrating her 55th year in the industry with a legacy-themed series, this concert is especially significant as it features her daughter not just as a guest, but as an equal. 'This is the first time Atilia and I are sharing a large-scale stage and I'm so grateful for this opportunity,' Salamiah said at the press conference. Atilia, who has long credited her mother as her greatest musical influence, described the concert as a personal milestone. Having grown up watching Salamiah perform, she now sees this collaboration as a way to honour their bond not just as artists, but as mother and daughter. Audiences can expect a blend of their respective styles — Salamiah's classic ballads and Atilia's jazz-infused vocals — brought together in carefully arranged duets and solo segments. Central to the evening is the premiere of a new song, Age Is Just A Number, written as their first official duet. 'This song is a reflection of both of us — two independent women doing what we love with heart and a positive spirit,' said Atilia, who views the track as a statement on defying expectations across generations. The performance will also serve as a live expression of familial intimacy, with the duo sharing stories and harmonies on stage. For Atilia, the most meaningful moment will be singing directly to her mother, something she hopes will resonate with audiences on a deeper level. While the concert promises warmth and nostalgia, its journey to production was far from effortless. Without major sponsorship or corporate backers, much of the groundwork was done independently. Atilia said the show came together thanks to a tight-knit circle of supporters who shared their belief in the idea. 'We only did what was necessary, supported by our friends. Alhamdulillah, there were people who believed and were willing to help,' she said. In a market saturated with high-concept shows and commercially driven events, Konsert Gelombang Bahagiaku stands apart as a personal project shaped by emotional ties and a shared artistic legacy. It is not positioned as a grand farewell or comeback, but as a singular evening that reflects two lives lived through song. Tickets go on sale on May 13 at 10am via Prices are RM350 for Platinum, RM250 for Gold, and RM150 for Silver. This article first appeared in The Malaysian Reserve weekly print edition

'A night of love' as legendary singer Salamiah Hassan teams up with daughter Atilia for a magical outing in special concert at KLCC

Get set for a magical night with legendary singer Salamiah Hassan and also her talended singer-actress daughter Atilia Haron. On a night promised to be filled with magic and cherished memories, renowned singer Atilia and her mother has promised fans an unforgettable night of retro music and enchanting songs, in a special performance titled 'Konsert Gelombang Bahagiaku', organised by Mujik Wand Production, the event and production outfit led by Salamiah's son Raja Ahmad Shah Raja Haron. The concert will take place on August 16, 2025, at 8:30pm at the Plenary Theatre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). More than just a concert, 'Gelombang Bahagiaku' is a symphony of love between two extraordinary women, 'daughter and mother' — united by blood, bound by love, and immortalised through music. On top of that, fans can also get set for a wonderful rendition of the duo's new single 'Age is just a Number'. And according to Atilia, she said that the new single which will feature both Bahasa Malaysia-English in the lyrics, is also the first single that will feature the daughter-mother combo. A Daughter's Dream Come True For Atilia, this concert is not merely an artistic project, but a heartfelt tribute to the person she loves most — her mother. 'This is a dream come true for me! Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be like my mother. Getting the chance to share such a great stage with her makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world!' Atilia shared with deep gratitude. Having witnessed her mother's musical journey from a young age, Atilia now sees this as a meaningful opportunity to express her love and appreciation directly, through the stage, and through song — with the most influential woman in her life. Raja Ahmad Shah said that the concert idea was always his sister's and she was also the biggest motivator in this project. "She always had this idea and she was really determined to making this dream project happen. I always loved the idea too. And it is indeed an honour for me to be involved in the project," said Raja Ahmad Shah. Two Generations, One Melody Of Love 'Konsert Gelombang Bahagiaku' does not just unite two voices with different musical backgrounds, but also bridges two worlds, two generations, and two souls that beat as one, through music. 'I'm very excited. Even though our singing styles differ, I believe it will be a truly special combination for the audience. This is the first time Atilia and I are sharing a large-scale stage, and I'm so grateful for this opportunity,' said Salamiah Hassan, who is celebrating her 55th anniversary in the music industry with this special project titled: 'Salamiah Hassan: #Legacy – Celebrating 55 Years in Music' "We promise it will be an exciting event for all to see and enjoy the music," added the 73-year-old Salamiah. Mother-Daughter Duet Debut – 'Age Is Just A Number' One of the most anticipated moments of the concert will be their first-ever duet, 'Age Is Just A Number', a new song delivering a positive message about life, maturity, and the courage to be oneself regardless of age. 'This song is a reflection of both of us — two independent women doing what we love with heart and a positive spirit,' Atilia explained. Happiness Is Vibing Together As the concert approaches, the moment Atilia most looks forward to is singing face-to-face with her mother on stage. 'I'm really looking forward to that magical moment when we sing together and look into each other's eyes on stage. I'm sure the audience will feel that magic too.' Salamiah hopes the audience will experience the mother-daughter bond, conveyed not just through their vocals, but through the heartfelt energy of two souls who love each other deeply. 'I'm blessed to share my love for music with my own daughter. We may be different, but our shared passion for art brings us even closer,' said an emotional Salamiah at the launching. Through Hardship & Joy, We Are One In bringing this concert to life, Atilia and her mother faced their fair share of challenges. But with shared spirit and belief, they pushed forward with their dream, starting from scratch with the help of close friends who believed in their mission. 'Of course there were challenges, but little by little, we made it happen. This concert had to be done. We only did what was necessary, supported by our friends. Alhamdulillah, there were people who believed and were willing to help,' Atilia said candidly. On top of that, the organisers also announced that singsing star Mimi Fly will kick off the show for the fans. Mimi, riding high in the charts with her new singles 'Serumpun' (this year's Hari Raya hit) and the hard-hitting 'Angkat' and 'Hey Lelaki' is also a close friend of family. She also works closely with Raja Ahmad Shah's recording outfit. "It will be an unforgettable night for all music lovers. That I can assure all music lovers. Both mom and daughter are amazing singers," said Mimi Fly. For Everyone Who Loves Music & Family 'Konsert Gelombang Bahagiaku' is expected to be an emotionally charged evening, full of beautiful memories and heartfelt performances. It is a gift for those who value family, unconditional love, and timeless music. 'I hope the audience is ready for something different, yet close to the heart.
