Egyptian advisor Ahmed Abdel Fattah Saleh chosen as member of new Advisory Group of Experts for AU Strategy on Artificial Intelligence

CAIRO – 14 March 2025: Ahmed Abdel Fattah Saleh, Director of Navigation, Innovation, and International Digital Issues at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as a member of the new Advisory Group of Experts established by the African Union Strategy on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Selected by the African Union Peace and Security Commission to represent the North Africa region, Saleh will serve a four-year term. In this role, he will provide research and policy recommendations to support the African Union's efforts in integrating AI to promote sustainable peace, stability, and development across the continent.
The Advisory Group of Experts, consisting of nine distinguished members from various African nations, was created in line with African Union Peace and Security Council Decision 1214 of June 2024. Its goal is to assess AI's impact on peace, security, democracy, and development in Africa. The group will also advise the African Union Commission on how to leverage AI to tackle emerging challenges, and develop strategies for incorporating AI into governance, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and post-conflict reconstruction.
