Actor Ajith Kumar Brings Home Rare McLaren Senna Hypercar
Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar has added a new model to his supercar collection. This is in the form of a rare hypercar named after the legendary F1 driver, Ayrton Senna, called the McLaren Senna. This car is special for the actor as Senna is the actor's idol. To make it even more special, the hypercar has an iconic Marlboro livery with Ayrton Senna's autograph. It is to be noted that the car makes sense in the garage of the actor, as he is a professional racecar driver. The delivery video featuring Ajith Kumar as he sees and drives his McLaren Senna has been posted on Instagram by Ajith Kumar Racing. In this brief clip, the actor is seen in a room with his McLaren Senna completely uncovered. A video of the iconic F1 driver Ayrton Senna was shown in the background on a projector within the private delivery space. Next, Ajith Kumar was in total awe while observing this track-ready supercar with its butterfly doors lifted. He was thoroughly captivated during the walkaround, examining the vehicle from every angle. Later, the actor invited a few friends and took the Senna out for its inaugural drive. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ajith Kumar Racing Team (@ajithkumarracing) McLaren, responsible for the production of the Senna, only produced 500 units of the car. The pedigree was later passed on to the Senna GTR, which is a track-focused version of the car and is even rarer, with only 75 units in existence. Then there is Senna LM (Le Mans), which has only 35 units. Supporting the performance of the car is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 kicking out 789 hp of power and 800 Nm of peak torque. These specs made it the most powerful engine made by the brand at the time. To fully utilise the power efficiently, the brand had designed the car to have 800 kg of downforce. Meanwhile, the transmission duties are handled by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Apart from the McLaren Senna, Ajith Kumar also has models like the Ferrari SF90, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and McLaren 750S.

Ajith's friends, family tried to ‘talk sense' into him when he started racing again but father offered support: ‘The day you start earning…'
After rising through the ranks and becoming one of the biggest stars Tamil cinema has ever seen, actor Ajith Kumar has returned to where his heart truly lies: the racing tracks. In fact, he has never shied away from admitting that he had little interest in cinema to begin with. However, when financial constraints began to mount, Ajith seized a timely opportunity to enter the film industry, also recognising it as a means to fund his passion for racing. Though he has occasionally returned to the tracks over the years, he recently took a significant step by launching his own official team, Ajith Kumar Racing. The team made its mark at the 24H Dubai 2025 endurance race this January and also secured a podium finish at the renowned Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium earlier this month. However, back in the early 2000s, when Ajith decided to take a break from acting and return to racing, not everyone close to him was fully supportive. Nevertheless, his father, P Subramaniam, stood by his decision, especially since he had made a promise to his son years before. 'I remember one thing that my father told me very clearly: 'The day you start earning your bread and butter, you can do whatever you want to.' When I decided to start racing again in 2002, a lot of friends and extended family members tried to 'talk sense' into me. But my father stood up for me then, saying that he had assured me that, the day I started making my own money, I was free to do what I wanted. 'He's achieved a decent amount of success. So let him decide what he wants to do,' my father told them,' he recalled during a chat with Mashable India. Many had, at that time, dubbed his act as a 'selfless' gesture. 'We were doing pretty well during the practice for the Dubai race. We were four drivers: Mathew, Fabian, Cameron and I. We were doing pretty well until I had a crash in the practice session two days before the race. The car was written off, unfortunately. So, we, as a team, decided it was best if I stepped back because we knew we had a chance at the podium. I didn't want to ruin it for my team,' he stated. Opening up about how he plans to juggle his acting and racing careers, Ajith revealed that he has devised a strategy to ensure that one doesn't overlap with the other. 'To make things easier and possible, I have decided not to do films during the racing season. It begins in March and goes on till either mid-September or mid-October. This gives me time to finish or put together a project between October and February-March of the next year before I start racing again.'

Ajith Kumar Says Subash Chandra Bose Inspired His Racing Dream: ‘Dad Told Me To Find Sponsors'
Last Updated: At 54, while still a leading man in films, Ajith has returned to motorsports which he has loved since his youth. Ajith Kumar has long been one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated stars, but his heart lies on the racetrack. At 54, while still a leading man in films, Ajith has returned to motorsports which he has loved since his youth. His team, Ajith Kumar Racing, recently delivered an impressive performance at the 24H Dubai endurance race in January 2025 and followed it up with a podium finish at Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps circuit. In a conversation with Mashable India, Ajith traced his motorsport journey back to the early '90s, when he started out racing motorcycles due to financial constraints. 'I started by racing bikes because it was more affordable. I'm very grateful that I had parents who weren't opposed to my participation. But my father, very honestly, told me, 'Look, Ajith, it's a very expensive sport. I may not be able to support you. But if you find your sponsors and can find a way around it, go ahead,'" Ajith revealed. Despite not coming from a wealthy background, Ajith's parents believed in hard work and responsibility. 'Since I dropped out of school, my parents were very clear about one thing. They said, 'You either pursue education and academics to at least get a basic degree, or you start working; no wasting time.' I chose the latter; to work," he added. Ajith made his debut in racing in 1990 at Irungattukottai, when the Grand Prix racing scene moved from Sholavaram. His first endurance race lasted two hours, and he finished in fifth place. But what truly changed his life was a moment of validation from a racing legend. 'In September 1990, we had an endurance race for two hours. I finished fifth. I remember Mr Subash Chandra Bose walking to my pits, and he said you should pursue motorsports. It's there in you," Ajith recalled. Motorbike personality Subash Chandra Bose, also known as 'Bullet Bose', is recognised for his dominance between 1968 and 1994 when he won the Indian Grand Prix title 15 times with his self-modified 350cc Royal Enfield, at the All-India Race Meet at Sholavaram race track. Meanwhile, Ajith has spent over three decades in cinema, delivering numerous Tamil blockbusters. Even with a demanding film career, he continues to carve time for his passion. While he had no releases in 2024, 2025 has already seen two films featuring him. Although Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, fell short of expectations, Ajith bounced back with Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran. Both films also starred Trisha Krishnan as the female lead. First Published:
