Govt should phase out trade with China in 10 years, says Akhilesh

1 2 Lucknow: Blaming the BJP-led NDA govt for the collapse of India's foreign policy, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said govt should phase out trade with China over the next 10 years for backing Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Akhilesh expressed gratitude towards Indian armed forces on behalf of his party and the country but questioned govt's claims on the Pahalgam attack and the subsequent events. "We admire the valour of our forces and congratulate them for the manner in which they bravely executed Operation Sindoor. Had they been given a chance, they could have reclaimed PoK as well," Akhilesh told reporters outside the Parliament House. He said India has received top honours from many nations but during Operation Sindoor none of these countries were seen standing with India and added that this was a failure of the Indian govt's foreign policy. India caters to the economic interests of China by way of trade and so it was understandable that such economic activity cannot be stopped abruptly, he said. "But the central govt should chalk out a blueprint to end all trade ties with China in a phased manner," Akhilesh said. "People of India listen to what the central govt says. Be it the beating of Thaalis during Covid or facing demonetisation, people did what the govt asked them. Now govt should come out with a plan to withdraw trade ties with China and people will abide by it," he said. "The problem is that the rich people are getting everything (from China) but fertilizers for farmers are not coming in," he added. Akhilesh said it was not only about Pahalgam, the Centre was yet to give details to the nation about what had happened with regards to action against the terrorists involved in Pulwama attack. "On Aug 14, 2019, a suicide bomber crashed into a bus carrying CRPF personnel in Pulwama killing at least 40 jawans. The question is why are terror attacks taking place when the BJP-led govts are at the helm. Govt must answer this question," he said.

‘Why are terror attacks recurring under BJP rule', asks Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday questioned the recurring terror attacks during the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) rule, pointing to the recent Pahalgam attack where 26 civilians were killed. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav (Sourced) Speaking to reporters in the national capital, Yadav asked, 'Why are terrorist incidents happening repeatedly in the BJP government? Before the Pahalgam incident, there was an attack in Pulwama. Where did the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack disappear to?' He lauded the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and remarked, 'We congratulate the army for its bravery, courage and valour. If the army had another chance, it could have taken POK.' The SP chief further alleged that the central government's foreign policy has failed. He said that while India has built global goodwill, it has failed to receive adequate support during critical times. 'India is respected in many countries of the world, but when the need arose, no one stood with India. It is a matter of concern that many countries are doing business with us, but why did they not stand up at the time of need?' he questioned. Criticising trade relations with China, he said, 'Trade is being done with China; everyone saw what China did. The central government should make a decision that for the next ten years, we will not allow any Chinese goods to come to India. Everything for the rich is coming from China. Farmers need fertilisers, but the things required for the fertilisers are not coming.' Turning his attack towards the Uttar Pradesh government, the SP MP from Kannauj said the BJP's double-engine government has failed in the state. He alleged that the state administration has mismanaged electricity, health, and education.

Whatever I wear for LS sessions will be my dress everywhere: SP chief

1 2 Lucknow: At the centre of a row over their attire while visiting a mosque on Parliament Street in Delhi with party MPs last week, Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said whatever he wears for Parliament sessions will be his dress for every other venue. "Jo Lok Sabha mein pahen ke ayenge wohi humari har jagah dress ho gi (Whatever I will wear to attend Lok Sabha will be my dress for everywhere else)," Akhilesh told reporters over objections raised by a Muslim cleric over the dress of SP MPs during the mosque visit. A political storm erupted after Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav and other SP MPs visited the mosque on the invite of party's Rampur MP Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi, who was earlier the Imam of this mosque. BJP had said Dimple Yadav was "inappropriately dressed" during the visit. The issue came under focus after photographs of the visit surfaced, showing SP members, including Dimple Yadav, seated inside the mosque. The controversy escalated after Maulana Sajid Rashid — president of the All India Imam Association — made an objectionable and misogynistic comment about Dimple Yadav who was wearing a sari at a meeting in the mosque and compared her to another woman SP MP, Iqra Hasan, who had covered her head. Maulana Rashidi said it would have been better had Dimple Yadav covered her head. Taking serious exception to Maulana's comment, SP functionaries lodged an FIR against him at the Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow.

Dimple Yadav visit to mosque: NDA MPs try to put SP in a spot, rush to her defence

Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav found herself in the middle of a political row on Monday over her visit to a mosque in Delhi last week. While the BJP's minority cell chief objected to Dimple not covering her head during the visit, a group of women MPs from the NDA showed solidarity with the SP leader following a Delhi-based cleric's allegedly offensive comments about her. The Manipuri MP, in response, said the show of solidarity would have been 'more meaningful' had the ruling alliance leaders 'stood with the women of Manipur'. On July 21, SP president Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple, and 10 other party MPs visited the Parliament Street mosque after the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day. The SP's Rampur MP, Mohibbullah Nadvi, is the mosque's imam. According to BJP minority cell chief Jamal Siddiqui, it was a political meeting that did not conform to mosque rules. 'Akhilesh Yadav was wearing a Samajwadi cap at the mosque, his wife, behan (sister) Dimple Yadav, was sitting in an area where the entry of women is prohibited. And her attire did not conform to mosque rules. We opposed all that. And we objected to Maulana (SP MP Mohibbullah) taking them there and making the mosque an undeclared office of the Samajwadi Party. So, he should be removed from the position of Imam of that mosque,' Siddiqui told The Indian Express. Asked why he thought Dimple did not follow the rules with regard to her attire, he said she did not cover her head. 'No one can enter a mosque wearing a saree,' Siddiqui said. NDA MPs, meanwhile, protested against remarks by a cleric, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, about Dimple during a television debate last week. The MPs held a demonstration outside Parliament, accusing the SP leadership of remaining silent due to 'appeasement politics'. 'We are raising our voice against the way a woman's dignity was targeted based on communalism,' said Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Choudhary. 'The party may have any ideology, but we must come together for the dignity of women. What is most shameful is that Akhilesh Yadav did not raise his voice in support of his wife for the sake of his politics … The way Sajid Rashidi has spoken about Dimple Yadav is not acceptable … Samajwadi Party's politics is completely on appeasement.. The NDA always stands for the cause of women's dignity.' BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj told reporters, 'Why is the entire Opposition silent? Why is Dimple Yadav's party silent? Why has her husband (Akhilesh Yadav) not yet spoken against this statement? … Is the politics of appeasement more important than the dignity of a woman MP?' Her party colleague and Rajya Sabha MP Dharamshila Gupta said she was 'shocked that the Samajwadi Party leaders are silent'. 'His (Akhilesh Yadav) wife has been insulted, and he is silent. You should leave politics if you cannot stand for the women of your house … The maulana will have to apologise to all the women MPs,' she said. Responding to them, Dimple said the show of solidarity would have been 'more meaningful' had they 'stood with the women of Manipur'. 'It would have been better if they had protested against the Manipur violence, the footage of which appeared on social media. It would have been better had they staged demonstrations and stood with the women of Manipur. And, the way the leaders of the BJP and senior ministers made statements from the stage on our Army officers during Operation Sindoor, it would have been better if they (NDA) stood with them,' said the SP MP. SP spokesperson Ashutosh Verma alleged that this controversy had been engineered as the BJP was facing 'tough questions on national issues'. 'The SP is not silent on this issue. The party will take legal action,' he said. An FIR was registered against Rashidi at a police station in Lucknow on Sunday evening based on a complaint of a local resident. — With PTI inputs

Misogynistic remark row: NDA MP protests against Islamic cleric's comment on Dimple Yadav; slams SP chief Akhliesh Yadav's silence

The protest, led by women MPs of the ruling alliance near Makar Dwar, came after Maulana Sajid Rashid reportedly criticised Yadav for wearing a sari during a meeting at a mosque and compared her with fellow SP MP Iqra Hasan, who had her head covered. Chanting slogans like 'Nari shakti ka apman, nahin sahega Hindustan', BJP MPs questioned the Opposition's silence on the issue, particularly targeting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leaders. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj questioned if 'appeasement politics' had become more important for the SP than a woman's dignity. 'It is deeply shameful that such an offensive and inappropriate comment has been made against a sitting MP, Dimple Yadav ji, and yet her husband Akhilesh Yadav and his entire party, as well as the entire Opposition, remain silent,' she said, as quoted by news agency PTI. — ANI (@ANI) JD(U) MP Lovely Anand said Akhilesh Yadav should stand by his wife. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Retirees Can Potentially Minimize RMD Taxes SmartAsset Learn More Undo 'Then, other women will also have confidence,' she said, demanding an apology from the cleric. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also hit out at the INDI alliance. 'It is a matter of great sadness that Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are silent on the indecent remarks made by the Maulana against Dimple Yadav due to their vote-bank compulsions,' he said, as quoted by news agency ANI. 'If you cannot stand up for the honour of your wife, then how can you protect the daughters of Uttar Pradesh?' Meanwhile, Dimple Yadav responded by saying the outrage would have been more meaningful had the ruling alliance shown similar concern during the Manipur violence . 'It's good that action is being taken now... But it would have been better if similar protests and support had been visible when horrifying incidents like the one in Manipur came to light through footage on social media,' she told reporters at Parliament. SP MP Iqra Hasan also condemned the remarks and called for a social boycott of the Maulana. 'They are not any religious leaders or 'Thekedar' of the religion... It is a very shameful statement,' she told ANI. Maulana Rashid, defending himself, said he was merely objecting to Yadav's posture inside a mosque, saying it violated Islamic norms. However, an FIR was registered against him in Lucknow late Sunday for objectionable and inflammatory comments, East Zone DCP Shashank Singh said.
