Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro is reportedly upset with the club's management's decision not to allow to team to travel to Spain for their pre-season. The 49-year-old Spanish coach joined the Red Devils in May from Orlando Pirates where he won five trophies in three years. During his time with the Buccaneers, Riveiro took his team to Spain twice for pre-season, which was one of the reasons why the Sea Robbers were successful. According to Journalist Medhat Shalaby, the former Bucs coach wanted Al Ahly to have their pre-season in his native country, where he believed conditions would be more favourable for preparation. 'Al Ahly had agreed to hold a training camp in Spain, and the Spaniard Jose Riveiro wanted to hold the camp in his country, especially since the atmosphere in Spain is completely different from that in Tunisia at the moment,' Shalaby said per Elwatan News . 'The Spaniard, Riveiro, after learning that the camp would be held in Tunisia, expressed his great anger and was extremely upset. 'The Al-Ahly management convinced him and told him that the Etoile Sportive du Sahel club would cover the costs,' he added. Weiler officially takes over as head coach of DC United

Senegalese player Sidi is on Qadsia's radar
KUWAIT CITY, July 16: Tunisian media have reported that, currently with Tunisia's Ben Guerdane is a strong candidate to join Kuwaiti side Qadsia. The player has also received offers from Libyan club Al-Ahly and Tunisian giants Esperance. Although Sidi has reportedly agreed to terms with Esperance, Ben Guerdane's management prefers to transfer him outside Tunisia. The 23-year-old defender scored six goals last season, showcasing his threat on set-pieces. In other news, Qadsia officially announced the free transfer signing of veteran international goalkeeper Hameed Al-Khalaf to bolster its squad ahead of the new season. Al-Khalaf, 37, who has been out of the game for two years, is regarded as one of Kuwait's top goalkeepers over the last two decades. Throughout his career, he has played for clubs including Yarmouk, Salmiya, Al-Arabi, and, most recently, Kuwait Club, as well as representing the Kuwaiti national team. Meanwhile, midfielder Mishaal Khalid became the latest player to leave Qadsia ahead of the new campaign, joining a list of departures that includes Nigerian Daniel Jebola, Algerian Hussein Dahiri, and Kuwaitis Abdullah Al-Shamali, Mohammed Khalil, Ahmed Shbeeb, Abdullah Al-Enezi, Mansour Bandar, and Aziz Nasari. Qadsia began training yesterday under the guidance of Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul. Sessions will continue at Farouq Ibrahim Stadium until the team departs for their external training camp in early August.

Kuwait Club to host 40th Arab Clubs Handball Championship in September
KUWAIT CITY, July 13: The Arab Handball Federation announced on Saturday that Kuwait Club will host the 40th edition of the Arab Clubs Championship, scheduled to take place from September 12 to 22. The announcement was made via the federation's official account on the X platform. The decision comes after Kuwait Club previously withdrew from the competition due to the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex being allocated for the Asian Futsal Championship. This year's tournament is expected to see the participation of three Kuwaiti clubs: Kuwait Club, Kazma, and Burgan. Kuwait Club has a strong recent history in the tournament, having hosted and won the 39th edition in September 2024 by defeating Al-Salmiya in the final. The club also won the 38th edition, overcoming Egypt's Zamalek in the final held at Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Sports City in Qatif, Saudi Arabia. Historically, Esperance Sportive de Tunis holds the most titles (7), followed by Al-Ahly of Egypt (5), and Etoile Sportive de Tunis and Mouloudia of Algeria with 3 each. Kuwait Club is among several teams that have won the championship twice, alongside Al-Ahly and Al-Nour (KSA), Club Africain (Tunisia), and Naft Oran (Algeria). Other past champions with one title include Al-Ain (UAE), Tasweeq (Algeria), Sporting and Zamalek (Egypt), Al-Rayyan and Al-Gharafa (Qatar), Al-Ahly (Bahrain), and Sakiet Ezzit (Tunisia).

Ahly's Emam Ashour makes IFFHS list of Men's World Best Goal Scorers for 2025
Al-Ahly's first-team star Emam Ashour appeared on Saturday evening, alongside several other international stars, on the list of the The International Federation of Football History and Statistics Men's (IFFHS) World Best Goal Scorer 2025. The IFFHS published the list of Men's World Best Goal Scorer 2025 up until June 30. French star Kylian Mbappé, striker for Real Madrid, topped the list with 31 goals. Nigerian player Victor Osimhen, striker for Galatasaray, came in second place with 28 goals. He was followed by Swedish striker Victor Gjokeres, who plays for Sporting Lisbon, Portugal, with 27 goals, followed by Paris Saint-Germain's Ousmane Dembélé with 26 goals, and then England's Harry Kane, who plays for Bayern Munich, Germany, with 25 goals.
