Al Dhaid Date Festival kicks off with participation of farmers
A new format and expanded participation Speaking to Sharjah 24, Al Awadi stated that the 9th edition of the Al Dhaid Date Festival comes in a refreshed format, with the active involvement of local and federal entities, palm owners, and date producers from the emirate and beyond. Productive families and youth take the spotlight Al Awadi emphasised the festival's commitment to supporting productive families by ensuring their participation. For the first time, the festival includes a "Young Farmer Competition". Additionally, educational workshops have been organized to raise awareness about the significance of this blessed tree—the date palm. Inclusive of all community segments The Director General noted that this edition of the festival caters to all segments of society, especially the youth. A Sharjah Youth Forum was launched to highlight the critical role of young people in the cultivation and production of palm trees and dates. Competitions celebrate agricultural excellence The festival features a rich lineup of competitions that celebrate excellence in local agricultural produce. These include contests for homegrown dates, lemons, figs, and the seasonal 'Rutab Al-Kharayef.' The event also hosts competitions for various date varieties such as Rutab Al-Khunaizi, Rutab Al-Khalas, and Rutab Al-Sheeshi. Additionally, two prestigious contests—'Elite of Al Dhaid – General' and 'Elite of Al Dhaid – Northern Emirates'—highlight the highest quality date produce from across the country.
