'Israeli' smear campaign aims to justify murdering journalist Anas al-Sharif

Seven Palestinian journalists, including Al Jazeera reporters Anas al-Sharif and Mohammad Qureiqa, as well as photographers Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammad Nofal, were confirmed killed in an 'Israeli' airstrike targeting Gaza City. This tragic loss has drawn international condemnation amid an escalating humanitarian crisis. Since the onset of the 'Israeli' assault on Gaza, 'Israeli' military spokesperson Avichay Adraee and affiliated social media accounts have launched a sustained and systematic campaign to demonize Anas al-Sharif, who has become a very prominent and credible journalist. 'Israeli' army claimed that al-Sharif held a senior role in Hamas's military wing and accused him of orchestrating rocket attacks against civilians. These allegations have been widely discredited by press freedom organizations and human rights advocates. The incitement against al-Sharif intensified markedly starting July 2025, with Adraee posting provocative videos and inflammatory messages targeting the journalist. This smear campaign extended beyond Adraee himself to a network of social media accounts which amplify these false accusations alongside defamatory language designed to tarnish al-Sharif's reputation and provoke public hostility. In a recent in-depth interview, al-Sharif revealed that this orchestrated incitement is intended to hold him responsible for any harm he might encounter, effectively justifying potential violence against him. This tactic fits a broader pattern employed by the Israeli military, which has in the past labeled Palestinian journalists as 'terrorists' prior to lethal strikes, most notably seen in the killing of Al Jazeera Mubasher journalist Hossam Shabat in 2025 following similar accusations. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) had described the threat to al-Sharif as 'acute,' warning that such baseless allegations are often precursors to targeted killings. The campaign against him had already had devastating personal consequences: in December 2023, an 'Israeli' airstrike killed his elderly father weeks after al-Sharif had received threats from 'Israeli' officials demanding he halt his reporting. International voices have strongly condemned the smear campaign. UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression Irene Khan denounced the accusations as 'baseless' and a direct threat to the journalist's life. She warned that 'Israel's' strategy aims to silence critical reporting by systematically obstructing and targeting journalists in Gaza, creating a near-total information blackout amid ongoing hostilities. The killing of these journalists marks a grave escalation in the dangers faced by media professionals in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for international protection of press freedom and accountability for attacks on journalists reporting from conflict zones.

Hamas Leader: Resistance weapons are red line—Comprehensive solution is path to ending war

Gaza – SABA: Senior Hamas official Ghazi Hamad reaffirmed on Saturday the movement's absolute rejection of any attempt to disarm the Palestinian resistance, declaring that 'resistance weapons are the core of the Palestinian cause, and we won't surrender—not even a single empty shell.' Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher, Hamad said there is national Palestinian consensus on preserving the resistance's arms, emphasizing that the issue is purely internal and that the weapons will remain in the hands of the resistance as long as the enemy occupies Palestinian land. He criticized remarks made by some international officials regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza, accusing them of ignoring UN reports that confirm a systematic starvation policy being enforced against the people of the Gaza Strip. Regarding the ongoing negotiations with the Israeli regime, Hamad stated that Hamas considers a comprehensive deal—which includes a full ceasefire, an end to the aggression, and lifting of the blockade—as the only viable solution to ease Palestinian suffering. He warned that partial deals would allow Israel to restart the war at will and said such fragmented solutions do not serve Palestinian interests. Hamad added that while mediators described Hamas's recent response in talks as positive, the movement was surprised by the Israeli delegation's abrupt withdrawal—an indication, he said, that the occupying power lacks genuine intent to reach a fair and comprehensive agreement. 'Freedom Flotilla' Launches New Mission to Gaza

DaysofPal – The Freedom Flotilla Coalition announced it is preparing to launch a new aid mission to the besieged Gaza Strip, just weeks after Israeli forces intercepted and seized one of its vessels in international waters. In a statement shared on X, the coalition confirmed that its next boat, named 'Handala,' will depart from the Italian port of Siracusa on 13 July. 'The mission is for the children of Gaza,' the coalition declared, emphasizing the symbolic significance of the mission's name. The vessel is named after Handala, the iconic cartoon figure of a 10-year-old boy created by Palestinian artist Naji al-Ali, widely recognized as a symbol of Palestinian resistance and steadfastness. This announcement comes on the heels of the seizure of the 'Freedom Ship' (Madeleine) by Israeli forces at dawn on a Monday earlier this month. The ship, carrying humanitarian aid and international peace activists, was intercepted while sailing in international waters en route to Gaza in a bid to challenge Israel's 17-year-long blockade of the coastal enclave. The 'Madeleine' had set sail in early June from the Italian port of Catania, carrying 12 international activists, including Al Jazeera Mubasher journalist Omar Fayyad. On board were critical supplies of food, medicine, and medical equipment intended for civilians in Gaza who have been enduring one of the world's worst humanitarian catastrophes. The Israeli military later confirmed that the ship had been seized and transferred to one of its ports, in what human rights advocates have condemned as a violation of international maritime law. This was not the coalition's first attempt to defy Israel's naval blockade. The 'Madeleine' was the 36th vessel launched as part of the Freedom Flotilla, an international civil society campaign that has sought to break the siege on Gaza since it began in 2007. The vessel was named in honor of Madeleine Kulab, a young Palestinian woman who became the first female professional fisher in the Gaza Strip. She lost both her father and her livelihood in the wake of Israel's war on Gaza, which escalated drastically in October 2023. Her story has since become a powerful symbol of resilience under occupation and siege. Shortlink for this post:

Far-right Israeli minister calls for the arrest of anyone watching Al Jazeera

Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has once again demanded a crackdown on Al Jazeera's presence in Israel, claiming the network poses a 'threat' to national security. Speaking in a brief televised statement, carried live by Al Jazeera Arabic and Al Jazeera Mubasher, Ben-Gvir also urged police to take action against individuals found watching the channel inside the country. His remarks come weeks after Israel formally banned Al Jazeera's journalists and staff from operating within its borders in early May 2024. The Palestinian Authority imposed a similar ban months earlier, in January, effectively blocking the network's coverage from the occupied West Bank. Houthis vow support for Iran against Israel, confirm coordination

A senior figure in Yemen's Houthi movement has declared the group's readiness to back Iran militarily if tensions with Israel intensify, echoing its past support for Palestinians in Gaza. Speaking to Al Jazeera Mubasher on Tuesday, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the group's political bureau, confirmed the Houthis are in ongoing coordination with Tehran as confrontations with Israel escalate. The Houthis, who have already launched several attacks targeting Israel in solidarity with Gaza, announced on Sunday that their latest operations were carried out in coordination with Iran—marking the first time a Tehran-backed faction has publicly admitted to direct cooperation on such strikes.
