UK: Cambridge Man Charged With Murder In Fatal Stabbing Of Saudi Student

A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place following the fatal stabbing of Mohammed Yousef Al Qasim, a 20-year-old Saudi national studying in Cambridge, police said. The incident, which officers described as an 'unprovoked attack,' took place late Friday night near Mill Park, a short walk from the victim's residence. Al Qasim was reportedly confronted and stabbed by the suspect shortly before midnight. Emergency responders arrived at the scene at 11:27pm, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 12:01am on Saturday. Al Qasim was enrolled in a 10-week English language programme at EF International Language Campuses. The suspect, from Cambridge, appeared before Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday. A second man, 50, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody. Authorities said a third suspect is still at large. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday. The Saudi Embassy in the UK said: 'We are closely following up on the incident involving the assault of a Saudi citizen in the south of Cambridge, UK, which resulted in his death. We affirm that we are continuing to coordinate with the relevant British authorities to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, in preparation for completing the procedures to repatriate the deceased's body to the Kingdom.'

Ghaf tree inspires Heritage café in Samayil

Samayil – In the heart of wadi Samayil, a heritage-inspired café is drawing attention for its unique blend of memory, nature, and modern design. Ghaf café, named after the more than 50-year-old ghaf tree at its center, stands as a symbol of preserving the past while embracing the present. Founded by Al Qasim bin Sulaiman al Hashimi and his family, the café was built over three years using Omani craftsmanship and materials sourced from abroad. The project was the vision of Al Qasim's father, who designed the café to reflect both traditional and global architectural influences. Once a rest stop for locals and travelers sipping freshly brewed coffee under the shade of the ghaf tree, the site has now been transformed into a cultural and economic attraction. It exemplifies a growing trend in Oman to revive and develop natural and heritage sites into sustainable tourism projects. Al Hashimi shared that despite challenges—such as limited technical expertise and material delays—the café became a reality through dedication and deep-rooted family values. Ghaf Café now stands not only as a business but as a living tribute to the stories and legacy of the land.

Amar Bahrin and Datuk Qobin are close to arriving in Madinah

28 May - It was revealed that Amar Baharin and Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin (aka Qobin) are now 400 kilometres away from Saudi Arabia's Madinah. Sharing this piece of information with the media recently, Amar's wife and actress Amyra Rosli stated that the two of them, who embarked on their cycling journey back in late April, have already entered the Al Qasim Province earlier this week and will be on their way to Masjidil Nabawi. She also revealed that Amar and Qobin do not travel every day seeing that the temperature is currently too high for them to make continuous journey. "They would rest around one to two days after cycling for a certain distance, and then continue. They are not in a rush because there are a lot of people in Makkah and Madinah right now," she said. It is noted that the Holy City of Mekah is currently filled with people preparing to do their Hajj. At the same time, Amyra said that the mission might actually end in Madinah instead of Mekah due to the aforementioned reason, adding that any change of plans will be announced later. On the other hand, Amyra said that she is relieved to hear that both men are being treated well by the locals, with some even giving them free accommodations and food. "It really makes me happy to hear that people have been very kind in giving them help in terms of food and drinks," she added. (Photo Source: Amar IG)
