Alaska State Fair The Alaska State Fair may not be the oldest, but it has other claims to fame: its record-setting massive vegetables, stunning mountain location, colorful flower gardens, and unique Alaskan culture. At this state fair, visitors can go on rides, watch horse shows, play carnival games, watch live performances, browse hundreds of food and non-food vendors, and look at various competitive exhibits. Alaska's fair started in 1936 and is staged about 45 minutes north of Anchorage by car.

The Beach Boys, with one founding member, set to perform at Alaska State Fair
Jun. 5—The Beach Boys will perform at the 2025 Alaska State Fair, officials announced Thursday. The band, led by founding member Mike Love, is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. The Beach Boys formed in California in 1961 with a lineup that included Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, Love — their cousin — and Al Jardine. The current lineup includes lead singer Love and 1965 addition Bruce Johnson. Known for their California surf rock sound and glossy vocal harmonies, the band has sold more than 100 million records worldwide. The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2001. The band is performing around the country on its "Sounds of Summer" tour. The Beach Boys join already announced acts Dwight Yoakam (Aug. 31), Wiz Khalifa (Aug. 24), Medium Build (Aug. 15), Rainbow Kitten Surprise (Aug. 16), "Weird Al" Yankovic (Aug. 17), Chris Tomlin (Aug. 18), Billy Currington (Aug. 23) and Foreigner (Aug. 30) on the 2025 fair lineup.

Dwight Yoakam to perform at Alaska State Fair
May 19—Dwight Yoakam, a pioneer of the "California country" sound, will perform at the 2025 Alaska State Fair, officials said Monday. Yoakam's show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday on the fair's website. Yoakam broke out with his 1986 debut "Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc." and has since sold over 26 million albums worldwide and earned 21 Grammy nominations and multiple wins. His hits include "A Thousand Miles from Nowhere," "Fast as You," "Little Sister," "Honky Tonk Man" and "Streets of Bakersfield," his duet with Buck Owens. He also released a 1997 cover of "North to Alaska," the ode to the 49th state originally written by Johnny Horton in 1960 for a movie of the same name. Yoakam fashioned his own musical style, a blend of what's described as "Bakersfield twang" and rock 'n' roll, "emerging in 1985 as a bluntly outspoken advocate of hardcore honky-tonk music," as described by American Songwriter. He joins joins already announced acts Wiz Khalifa (Aug. 24), Medium Build (Aug. 15), Rainbow Kitten Surprise (Aug. 16), "Weird Al" Yankovic (Aug. 17), Chris Tomlin (Aug. 18), Billy Currington (Aug. 23) and Foreigner (Aug. 30) on the 2025 fair lineup.

3 Doors Down cancels 2025 tour, including an Alaska State Fair show
May 7—American rock band 3 Doors Down has canceled its 2025 shows, including an August appearance at the Alaska State Fair. In a video posted to social media Wednesday, lead singer Brad Arnold detailed a recent Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. "I'd been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung," Arnold said in a video posted to Facebook. The band had been scheduled to play Friday, Aug. 29, as part of the 2025 ConocoPhillips Alaska Concert Series. The fair said it is trying to fill the slot vacated with the news. The fair said all 3 Doors Down ticket holders who purchased them from will receive a full refund. The refund may take up to two weeks to process.
