Aldi Scotland's much-loved Supermarket Sweep challenge recently returned to Edinburgh, and one lucky local winner has raised £310.64 for Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) while picking up the same amount in Aldi favourites for herself. Lucky shopper Alea Ibrahim, who was chosen as the winner of a competition, took part in the five-minute trolley dash for CHAS. As well as taking home a trolley full of goodies, Aldi Scotland matched the cash value of Alea's haul, donating all proceeds to CHAS to help support over 500 babies, children and young people across Scotland with life-shortening conditions and their families. In 2025 every penny raised through the initiative will go directly to CHAS, with £10,000 pledged in support. It's actually a bit of a family tradition, I'm a second-generation sweeper- my dad won a sweep years ago, so he was ready with some advice (and high expectations!) Alea Ibrahim scooped £310.64 for CHAS. 'It's not every day that you get to sprint at full speed into the cheese aisle after closing time. Knowing the funds raised are going to CHAS to support children's hospices in Scotland made the whole experience even more meaningful. A big thank you to the Aldi team as well who could not have been lovelier and made it such a memorable experience!' Alea Ibrahim took home more than £300 after taking part in the challenge as it arrived in Leith Aldi on Sunday July 20th. The challenge is based on the popular 90s gameshow of the same name. After winning the prize to compete in the challenge, shoppers have five minutes to find items around the store to put in their trolley. Alea managed to collect items with the total value of £310.64 which she took home with her. Catherine Handleigh took part in a five-minute trolley dash inspired by the popular TV gameshow for Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). ‌ And as well as taking home a trolley full of goodies worth £559.59 for herself, Aldi Scotland donated the cash equivalent of Catherine's haul to CHAS. ‌ Every year, the charity supports more than 500 babies, children and young people across Scotland with life-shortening conditions and their families. Every penny raised through the Aldi scheme this year will go directly to CHAS, with £10,000 pledged in support. CHAS medical director, Annabel Howell, said: 'We're so grateful to Aldi Scotland and to Catherine for raising such a fantastic amount through the Supermarket Sweep in Dumfries. 'CHAS currently supports 12 families in the Dumfries area, and this kind of local fundraising helps us continue delivering specialist palliative care in family homes, in our two hospices, and in partnership with NHS teams in Scotland's three children's hospitals.
