2025 Indy 500: The incredible watches displayed at this year's red carpet

While Alex Palou stole the spotlight at this year's Indy 500 with his first career win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he wasn't the only one to dazzle spectators. This year's red carpet for the "greatest spectacle in racing" showcased an incredible display of luxury and style, with watches stealing the spotlight. Celebrities, drivers, and VIPs graced the event— each of them sporting timepieces that blended craftsmanship and opulent design. These watches, often from iconic brands like Richard Mille, Rolex and Audemars Piguet, truly highlighted just how incredible this event was. Just how much did some of the watches seen cost? Let's dive into some of the more notable ones spotted: BEST OF FOX SPORTS' INDY 500 COVERAGE:

Indy 500 winner 'should be given a chance' as F1 star begs team to sign him

Alex Palou won the Indy 500 for the first time last weekend and the three-time IndyCar champion is now being linked with a Formula 1 drive in the future – if he wants one Carlos Sainz is adamant that "dominant" Alex Palou should be given a chance to prove what he can do in Formula 1. That call comes after the Spaniard won the famous Indy 500 race for the first time last weekend. It was just the latest in a long list of impressive accomplishments managed by Palou in recent years. He never made it to F1 after a brief spell racing in Formula 2 and moved to Japanese Super Formula before joining the IndyCar grid, where he has thrived. ‌ Palou made his debut in the US racing series five years ago and has already become a three-time champion. He looks increasingly likely to secure his fourth crown this year as he is more than 100 points clear of nearest challenger Pato O'Ward, his Indy 500 victory marking five wins from six starts so far in 2025. ‌ Sainz knows his compatriot very well having competed against him in junior racing categories. "I always rated Alex very highly because I was his team mate in cadets and he was very quick in cadet karting," the Williams F1 star said. Sign up to our free weekly F1 newsletter, Pit Lane Chronicle, by entering your email address below so that every new edition lands straight in your inbox! ‌ "But honestly speaking, what he's doing in America is something really admirable. I think to dominate in the way he's dominating, you have to be very good at what you're doing. Formula 1 is a completely different discipline, different world, but I don't have anything else but respect and admiration for what Alex is doing in Indy. "I think someone that is capable of winning the Indy 500, at least he should at some point be given the chance to show what he can do in Formula 1. And if he's quick enough in Formula 1, then he should be welcomed in Formula 1." Fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso is equally impressed with Palou's success but doesn't see why he would need to switch from IndyCar to F1. "I know that most of the drivers dream about a Formula 1 seat and having a career here, but he had the opportunity in IndyCar and he maximised every single day there," said the Aston Martin racer. ‌ "He's a legend in IndyCar and he will be a legend always in IndyCar, so I think he's not missing Formula 1. I'm very happy for him because he's a very, very talented driver. We are just following him from here with a lot of respect and as a fan. I was watching on Sunday the race and just hoping that he would finally make it, and he did it, so I'm happy for him." Palou drove in one F1 practice session for McLaren in 2022, at the United States Grand Prix in Austin. But he split from the outfit in 2023 after reneging on an agreement to join the Arrow McLaren IndyCar team, choosing instead to stick with Chip Ganassi Racing. He flew to London for talks in January this year with the £24million lawsuit still ongoing. In any case, after his Indy 500 win, Palou insisted he is not currently interested in quitting IndyCar for F1. "I don't want to leave now," he said. "[F1] is not calling me anymore. I still follow it – it's a huge series, it's amazing, I'm a big fan – but I don't think they're having as much fun as I'm having here."

Detroit Grand Prix guide: Free events, parking and more

The Detroit Grand Prix will dominate downtown this weekend, starting with Friday's Free Prix Day and ending with Sunday's final race. Why it matters: The annual event transforms Jefferson Avenue and other downtown streets into a 1.7-mile racetrack for world-class drivers such as last week's Indy 500 winner, Alex Palou, who also won in Detroit two years ago. The race is expected to generate an economic impact of more than $100 million, Crain's reports. 🏁 Here's our grand prix primer: Free events: Friday's Free Prix Day allows free admission to grandstands 1 and 9. Free, wheelchair-accessible viewing platforms will be located along Jefferson all weekend. Hart Plaza, Spirit Plaza and Woodward Avenue will also host free fan activation areas all three days. Downtown race footprint: Road closures will affect parts of Jefferson (between the Lodge Freeway and Rivard Street) and Woodward Avenue (between the Campus Martius area and Jefferson). Transportation/parking: Parking garages inside the footprint will be closed except for the Franklin Garage, which requires pre-purchased tickets starting at $75. You can park along the People Mover's route and take it to the Renaissance Center inside the Grand Prix footprint. Another option is parking north of Campus Martius and taking the QLine to the race area. Both services are free. Learn the lingo: Motor sports tend to have a niche following. Luckily our Axios Indianapolis colleagues compiled a handy glossary of racing terms and other basic info for casual fans. Penske's cheating scandal: Off the track, local businessman and racing icon Roger Penske has been dealing with the fallout of a cheating scandal that resulted in the firing of three Team Penske executives just days before the Indy 500. The team's drivers did not fare well at Indy. One wrecked his car before it even started and another exited after 135 laps with a mechanical issue.

Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix start time; what is the IndyCar schedule on the Detroit GP track?

The IndyCar Series completes a five-week stretch of on-track action with the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, a 100-lap race on a 9-turn, 1.645-mile downtown street layout. Push-to-pass: 150 total seconds, in increments up to 15 seconds Tire allotment: Five sets of primary tires (six for rookies) and five sets of alternate tires. Teams must use one set of primary tires and one set of new alternate tires for at least two laps in the race. Alex Palou. Not sure there's much else to say, though Kyle Kirkwood beat him that one time. Scott Dixon stayed out of the way of all the crashes and penalties on the tight downtown street course to come away with his 58th career win. From Nathan Brown, IndyStar Picking Alex Palou is so obvious that we're barring him from this portion of the preview for a while. Pato O'Ward sits second and Christian Lundgaard third in points, but they're more than two races' worth of max points behind Palou. Who makes a move in the points standings? Marcus Ericsson would have been 10th in points after crossing the finish line second in the Indianapolis 500, but he stands 20th after his car failed post-race tech inspection. He earned his lone podium finish in 2024 in Detroit, and with a similar performance this weekend, Ericsson makes up a lot of the ground he lost in the championship standings in Indy. Surprising qualifying performance: Though Rinus Veekay has had some strong qualifying performances in his first year with Dale Coyne Racing, he hasn't been consistent. But in his first race weekend with Michael Cannon as engineer, Veekay narrowly misses out on the Fast 6, but sets himself up for a strong Sunday. Something you didn't see coming: At a track where he started on pole last year, but only finished 19th, Detroit seems like as good a track as any for Colton Herta to find some momentum. He sits just 9th in the championship standings with a single top-5 finish. However, the narrow streets of Detroit can be cruel, and somehow Herta and the No. 26 crew leave with a tough result unbecoming of the traditionally dominant street course program of Andretti Global. Getting Alex Palou to talk possible INDYCAR records is as tough as beating him

Alex Palou has won the Indianapolis 500 and appears well on his way to winning a fourth INDYCAR title in the last five years. What more does he have to accomplish? "Another championship and another 500 and so on and so on and so on," Palou said. "There's a lot. There's many races that we need to win." Yeah, and how many is that? Palou swears he isn't looking at trying to reach 10 victories (or a record 11th) in one season after winning five of the first six races this year with 11 more to go. At the Detroit Grand Prix this Sunday (12:30 p.m. ET on FOX), Palou seeks to become the first driver since 2000 to win the Indy 500 and the following race. "I don't think that way," Palou said. "I think more of I would love to win Detroit [this weekend] now after the 500. It's pretty tough, and we've not seen that happen very often, that after the 500 to win the next race. That's the goal." Palou does have "just" 16 victories in the series, which ranks him tied for 31st (with Dan Wheldon) on the all-time list — he would need to win 15 more to get to the top-10 all-time and 26 more to get to fifth. A.J. Foyt has the record with 67 victories. A fourth title would tie him for third on the list behind seven-time champ A.J. Foyt and six-time champ Scott Dixon. Mario Andretti, Sebastien Bourdai and Dario Franchitti each have four. Only three drivers have won three consecutive titles (Palou has won two in a row), and Bourdais' four consecutive Champ Car titles is the INDYCAR record. Palou's boss, car owner Chip Ganassi, dismissed talk of trying to reach those benchmarks. "You know what I need to talk about? Detroit," Ganassi said. "We just try to do the best job every day that we can. And if you do that, the long term takes care of itself. "When you want to talk about start talking about comparisons and history ... all that stuff, that's for you guys, not me." But chasing records can be a storyline and a sign of accomplishment, and Ganassi knows that. "Records are only important if you're close to breaking one," Ganassi said. The most immediate record Palou could achieve would be wins in a season, which is 10 (Foyt in 1964 and Al Unser in 1970). The more modern era record is eight (Michael Andretti in 1991, Al Unser Jr. in 1994 and Bourdais in 2007). "I don't have a number," Palou said about wins for this year. "Winning five is already the most that I've won in an INDYCAR season. So it's pretty cool." The 28-year-old Palou could have more than a decade left in INDYCAR, and if he continues this tear, he could potentially break many records. "In my mind, I don't have a list of stuff that I want to accomplish," Palou said. "I have accomplished a lot more than I've ever thought and a lot more than I could have put on any list. "It's more about every day trying to beat the competition at every single race that we can and trying to do the best that we have." Not only will Palou likely not continue this tear — he'll admit that himself — but there is also a new car coming. INDYCAR would like to have the new car ready for the 2027 season. "Any time a new car comes along, it jumbles the field," Ganassi said. But, as Ganassi said, the focus isn't on 2027 or beyond. It's on Detroit. But it's been hard for Palou to focus on Detroit during an intense media tour in New York City. "I don't feel as prepared as I should," Palou said Wednesday at the Empire State Building. "But on the flight [Thursday] to Detroit, I should have a couple of hours that should be OK to be at least ready for a track walk [that night] and just to have an idea of what the schedule is going to be for the weekend." If he does win Detroit or earns a few more wins heading into August, the record for wins in a season could become a focus. "Records are made to be broken and if somebody hasn't done it in the modern era, why shouldn't it be us to do it?" Ganassi said. Bob Pockrass covers NASCAR and IndyCar for FOX Sports.
