Neighbours speak of sadness at death of ‘lovely man' found dead at house as murder probe launched

Neighbours have spoken of their sadness following the death of a 'lovely man' found dead at a house in Prestwich as a murder probe was launched. The man, aged 74, was found dead at his home address on Butterstile Lane last Thursday (March 13). Following investigations and a Home Office post mortem, the injuries he sustained were deemed to have been suspicious. On Tuesday, March 18, at around 7pm, a 70-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder. Throughout the day crime scene investigators remained at the scene and were seen using a LiDAR Scanner. One neighbour said the police arrived late on Tuesday night. 'I understand there was a death,' he said. 'He was a lovely man, but I didn't know him that well. I'm not sure what happened but they were all here and they've been here all this morning too.' Another neighbour said that the man died last Thursday. 'It's an unexplained death, that's what the police told us,' she said. 'A black police car arrived last night. They've been going round to people's doors and asking about what happened.' 'As part of our investigation we must follow strict procedure and ensure we obtain as much evidence as possible to understand more about what happened which has sadly led to an elderly man losing their life.' Bury: Woman, 70, arrested after man, 84, found dead

A 70-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an 84-year-old man was found dead. The victim's body was found at his home in Butterstile Lane in Bury on Thursday 13 March, and post-mortem suggested his injuries were suspicious. The woman was arrested on Tuesday night and is being questioned by detectives. Greater Manchester Police said the suspect and the victim were known to each other but have not confirmed the relationship. Det Insp Alex Wilkinson from GMP's Major Incident Team said the force believed the man's death was a "contained incident" with no wider threat to the public. "As part of our investigation we must follow strict procedure and ensure we obtain as much evidence as possible to understand more what happened which has sadly led to an elderly man losing their life," he added. He urged anyone with any potentially relevant information to come forward.
