Jimmy Thelin doubles down on crucial Aberdeen target as boss lands two pronged boost before Rangers
The Swede has confirmed duo Alexander Jensen and Kristers Tobers will be available for the trip to Ibrox Jimmy Thelin has confirmed Alexander Jensen and Kristers Tobers will be back for their weekend trip to Ibrox. The full-back missed last week's defeat to St Mirren while the Latvian has been out since the Dundee United game in February. It will enhance Thelin's defensive options as the Dons head to Rangers on Sunday looking for the win that would keep them in the hunt for third place. Thelin said: 'Let's see how we manage him (Jensen), but he's training full today. 'We have three games this week, so let's see how much he can tolerate, but we have a good squad and everybody else is ready also.' Aberdeen are on the verge of sealing a European place but are still looking to chase down Hibs, who are three points in front. Thelin explained:'Yes, still our aim is to arrive in Europe. "Of course, and nothing has really changed in our mentality, how we want to achieve, and we have to go there and try to be the best we can be. 'We have to put on a good performance and deserve the result. 'I think the team is ready, it's a good game to play now, it's good that we have this tight schedule, 'It's just focused game by game now, the energy is high, everybody is more or less available, everybody is training except Ester (Sokler) and Sivert (Nilsen), so the focus is in the right space.' Aberdeen lost a 2-0 lead and surrendered two points to a 96th minute Ianis Hagi equaliser at Pittodrie the last time the teams clashed last month. Thelin believes it is a case of looking forward and trying to close the gap on the teams above them. He insisted: 'No, but I think that's in the past for us now. 'For us, it's important that we also get better. 'Rangers are doing well and they are ahead of us on the table. 'In the future we want to be better and better every season. 'The best way to do that is to play against good teams and try to be better all the time. 'For us it's a good game right now, so we can push ourselves and perform really well and try to get the results.'

Alexander Jensen watched Man Utd and Napoli as a ball boy and now Aberdeen star wants own crack at Europe
Alexander Jensen has been a ball boy when the likes of Napoli and Manchester United have come to town but now he wants to taste European football for real with Aberdeen. The Dane came through the ranks at Midtjylland and got a pitch-side watching top stars like Gonzalo Higuain and Marek Hamsik in their Europa League group campaign back in the 2015-16 season. The Danes ended up finishing second behind the Italians but above Club Brugge and Legia Warsaw. They progressed into the knockout round where they beat United and stars such as Juan Mata and Memphis Depay 2-1 at home but lost the return at Old Trafford. Jensen has never played in Europe before but he could help his Aberdeen side book their place for next season with a point at St Mirren , depending on other results. The defender said: 'I'm from Herning, so it's FC Midtjylland that was the team I followed in Europe. 'Back then, I was a ball boy in the Europa League. That was the first time I think I can remember European football. 'They actually played against Manchester United and they won that game. I was the ball boy. 'I think they were leading at a point and then we were very, very slow. 'The one (player) I remember was Depay, but I think maybe they switched some of the best players for that game. 'They then lost at Old Trafford. They also played, I think it was Napoli, and a team from Poland as well. 'It's always great players and I think it's a different atmosphere when you're playing in the league than in Europe and you felt that in the stadium as well.' Jensen's dream of playing for Midtjylland was crushed not longer after but he picked himself up and has managed to get back to the verge of European football via a journey from Velje to Frederica, Swedish club Brommapojkarna and then a move to Aberdeen in January. The 23-year-old explained: 'No, when you are under 15, I don't know how it is in Scotland, but in Denmark you're under 17, under 19 and then it's senior football. 'When you get to 15, Midtjylland wants you to sign a contract and I didn't get a contract there. So then I moved to Vejle instead and since then it has worked out in the end.' Aberdeen were in the European positions when Jensen joined although it is fair to say their form had collapsed. Thelin with his January additions has helped get them back into form and they sit fourth, jus behind Hibs on goal difference. Jensen admitted potential European football was definitely a lure. He said: 'The chance of Europe was an attraction of course. I also wanted to play for a top team in the league as well where you can play European football was also a part of that. "It would be great to secure that. So yes, it was also the possibility to play European football. 'I've never come close to playing in European football before. 'We weren't close in Sweden and in Denmark it was the second best, so there wasn't an opportunity to play Europe.' There is still so much for Aberdeen to play for over their remaining five games. They don't want just Europe but the possibility of guaranteed group stage football. That prize would be on offer to the Dons if they could beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup final or finish third in the Premiership. Jensen is very much focused on both. He said: 'It would be best to win (Scottish Cup) and finish third. 'But yeah, there's a lot of opportunities to play European football. European football is always what you're aiming for. 'It would be big to play European football.'

Defender Alexander Jensen warns best is yet to come this season from rejuvenated Aberdeen
Defender Alexander Jensen is confident Aberdeen are hitting form at the right time with a third-place finish and Scottish Cup glory up for grabs. The Reds are rejuvenated after a winter form crash and have now lost only once in the last 11 games in all competitions. Their form has set up a Scottish Cup final against Celtic on May 24 and reignited the bid to finish third in the Premiership. Aberdeen host Hibs at Pittodrie on Saturday in a clash pivotal in the race to finish third. The Easter Road club currently occupy that coveted third spot and hold a three-point advantage over the Reds. It is a battle of two form sides as Hibs are on a 17-game unbeaten run in the Premiership. Jensen arrived at Pittodrie in the January transfer window when the Reds were mired in a Premiership winless slump which hit 14 games. Now the 23-year-old reckons the Dons are back… with the best yet to come. He said: 'We have improved a lot since I came in. 'However, we have still a lot of things we can still improve on and we have a lot of potential inside the squad as well. 'The form we are in right now is okay, but I think we can take a step more before the end of the season. 'I feel we still can improve. 'So I hope we can take a step or two more in these last six games and continue that great form.' Full-back Jensen was secured from Swedish Allsvenskan club Brommapojkarna in the January window for £545,000. The versatile full-back penned a four-year deal with the Dons. Jensen has been a regular first-team starter since arriving at Pittodrie and has been key in the form revival. After only a few months at Pittodrie, he experienced the biggest high of his career when winning 2-1 against Hearts in the Scottish Cup semi-final. His family had flown in to Scotland to watch the semi-final. That may have been the most memorable game of his career so far – but Jensen reckons the remaining six this season will be even bigger as the Dons fight for glory. He said: 'The semi-final has to be the biggest game so far for me right now. 'I hadn't played semi-finals or quarter-finals before, so it is up there as the biggest. 'It was a great feeling and just a big release when the winning goal went in. 'To be in the final and have an opportunity to win something is what you want to do as a footballer. 'Now we have six great games remaining that will be even bigger. 'We have everything to play for.' Aberdeen triumphed in the Scottish Cup semi-final courtesy of a winner late in extra-time by on loan striker Oday Dabbagh. It is the first time the Dons have reached the Scottish Cup final since 2017. Aberdeen have not won the trophy since triumphing 9-8 in a penalty shoot-out against Celtic in 1990. The significance of reaching the final is not lost on Jensen. However, he could not celebrate the win on the team-bus from Hampden back to the Granite City as he was travelling with his family. He said: 'My family came across to watch the semi-final and really enjoyed it. 'They had some great seats – they were very impressed to be near the middle of the pitch. It was a great experience for them. 'It was my mum and dad and I have two little brothers and my girlfriend was there as well. 'Now it's not so often that my family are here, so it's always nice to have them around. 'I think they will be across for the final as well, although we haven't made a deal on that yet. 'I think my dad and both my little brothers maybe will come, so we'll see. 'After the semi-final win I actually went back with my family in the car. 'But it was great atmosphere in the car as well!'

Jamie McGrath getting it tight from Aberdeen dressing room as Alexander Jensen reveals the message from within
Alexander Jensen hailed the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hearts as the biggest of his career. But he knows things could go up a whole different level for him and Aberdeen over the next six games. The Dons have a Scottish Cup final against Celtic to look forward to but before that they have five top six games that puts them in the fight for third place and European qualification. That run kicks off when third-placed Hibs make the trip to Pittodrie and Jimmy Thelin's side is looking for the points to draw level with their rivals. The delighted Dane said: 'I think the semi-final maybe has to be the biggest right now. 'When you look on it afterwards, I haven't played semi-finals or quarter-finals, so it has to be up there among the biggest. 'It was a great feeling and just a big release when the goal went in. To be in the final and have an opportunity to win something is what you want to do as a footballer.' Aberdeen are back on a decent run of form and seemed to have timed their resurgence of the right time, going into the business end of the season. The full-back admitted: 'It's so interesting once you look forward and it's six great games and everything to play for. "Yeah, I think we've improved a lot since I came. So I think we have still a lot of things we can improve on and we have a lot of potential inside the squad as well. "The form we are in right now is okay, but I think we can take a step more to the end of the season. I feel we still can improve. 'So I hope we can take a step or two more in these last six games and continue that great form." Hampden was even more special for the 23-year-old as his family were across for the game and now he is under pressure the final. Jensen admitted: 'It was my mum and dad and then I have two little brothers, one of them and then my girlfriend as well. 'It was good to get the victory. Now it's not so often that my family are here, so it's always nice to have them around. 'I think they will be across for the final as well although we haven't made a deal on that yet.' Jensen was one a number of January signings that have helped bring a bit of stability to the Dons. It is all different to when he arrived and Thelin's side couldn't buy a win. He said: 'When I came it was like they haven't won for a number of games and it's a special situation. 'Now I feel like we have hit the right path and we know what we want and it's an exciting end. 'It's going to be an interesting month and I'm really looking forward to it. 'I think one of my first games was when I started St Mirren and Hibs, I felt we actually played pretty good, but things were just not going our way. 'I feel we have been on the right path since then.' Aberdeen midfielder Jamie McGrath will play against a Hibs team he will join in the summer. Jensen admitted the Irishman has got it tight in the Pittodrie dressing room this week. He acknowledged: 'Yeah, it's of course a bit of a special situation. I can imagine it's special for him as well. 'Yeah, he had to listen to a lot of stuff this week. I've actually seen it before when one of my former teammates in Denmark had signed for the team we played. I wouldn't like to be in that situation. Jamie wants to finish good here as well, I know. He's an Aberdeen player now so he wants to do good for us.'
