Oakdale girl dies in UTV crash, second child fatality within week in Central Louisiana
An Oakdale teen girl was killed early Sunday in a utility-terrain vehicle crash, according to Louisiana State Police. The wreck happened just after midnight on West River Road, south of La. It hit a parked Honda Foreman UTV, which caused her, a juvenile passenger and the driver of the Foreman to be ejected, it reads. Vidrine was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The other two suffered minor injuries. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers, but results are pending. The crash, the second fatal offroad vehicle wreck involving juvenile drivers within a week in Central Louisiana, remains under investigation. A 6-year-old passenger on an all-terrain vehicle was killed Wednesday in Alexandria when the 12-year-old driver ran a stop sign and hit a car at the intersection of Culpepper Road and North Boulevard. The wreck left the driver and a 10-year-old passenger in critical condition, while a 4-year-old passenger received minor injuries. Police investigating woman's death as homicide after body found on Alexandria street
The Alexandria Police Department is investigating how a woman died after her body was found on a street Saturday afternoon. According to a news release, officers responded to the area of 16th and Stracener streets around 2:35 p.m. after a report of a body being found. Police identified the victim as Loletha Bell, 35. Her death was ruled a homicide, reads the release. Louisiana State Police: 3 men die in 2 crashes over Easter weekend in Troop E region
Louisiana State Police handled two crashes over the Easter weekend that resulted in the deaths of three men. The first crash happened early Saturday, just before 2 a.m., after a trooper tried to pull over the driver of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee for improper lane usage on MacArthur Drive in Alexandria, according to a news release. The driver "refused to stop, initiated a pursuit and continued fleeing westbound" on England Drive at a high rate of speed, but the trooper ended the chase after losing the Jeep, it reads. The trooper kept searching, though, and about 50 minutes later, found the Jeep partially submerged in a bayou after it apparently left the road in a curve, reads the release. Neither man who had been inside the Jeep, 30-year-old Brandon Wright of Pineville and 33-year-old Aaron Watson of Amite, were wearing seat belts, it reads. Both had been ejected and died at the scene. An investigation is continuing and, at the time of the release, they had not been able to determine which man was driving the Jeep. Troopers were called to a crash on Sayes Road near La. Highway 115 in the Effie community, finding a 2014 Polaris Ranger utility terrain vehicle that had been driven off Sayes Road and overturned. The UTV was driven by Brian K. Luneau, 47, of Addison, Texas. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He died at the scene, reads the release. A juvenile who was restrained was not injured. According to the release, investigators suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken, and the crash remains under investigation. Search continues for elderly Alexandria woman reported missing Sunday
A search is continuing for an elderly Alexandria woman who was reported missing early Sunday morning. Brenda Milo, 78, last was seen on Paige Street, which is in the Good Earth subdivision. Investigators believe she left on foot, according to a missing persons Facebook post from the Alexandria Police Department. Milo has Alzheimer's, according to the post. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. On Monday night, a Louisiana State Police helicopter searched the area near Paige Street for hours. Not far from the spot she last was seen are fields and woods that border nearby Twin Bridges Road. A news release from the department said detectives "worked tirelessly throughout the day and into the evening, conducting a comprehensive ground search and following up on any available leads." The helicopter "provided an essential aerial perspective, expanding the search area and increasing the likelihood of locating Milo," it reads. Alexandria Police Chief Chad Gremillion said in the release that every available resource was being used to find Milo and that the department remains committed to bringing her home safely. Woman killed in 3-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon in Natchitoches Parish
A Natchitoches woman died Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Natchitoches Parish, according to Louisiana State Police. The crash happened on La. Highway 6 at Collins Road, not far from Interstate 49, reads a news release. The initial investigation found that a 2015 GMC 2500, driven by David W. Cross of Deville, and a 2020 Honda CRV, driven by Doris L. Nichols, both were westbound on La. 6. Nichols was making a left turn onto Collins Road, but Cross didn't stop for her and rear-ended the CRV, it reads. Pineville crash: Indictment amended in case of 2 men accused in deadly racing crash on US 165 Louisiana State Police: Texas woman dies after Can-am rear ends pickup truck on I-49 Because of that, the CRV went into the eastbound lane and was hit by a 2000 Ford pickup truck. Nichols, 58, was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene, reads the release. Cross, 45, was wearing a seat belt but was not injured. The unidentified driver of the Ford also was wearing a seat belt and was taken to a hospital for moderate injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
