Jamia's residential coaching academy helps 32 students clear UPSC civil services exam 2024
NEW DELHI: Turning aspirations into achievements, Jamia Millia Islamia's (JMI) Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) has once again emerged as a beacon of hope for civil service aspirants. A total of 32 students trained at RCA cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, the results of which were declared on Wednesday. According to a statement by JMI, 78 RCA candidates reached the interview stage, with 32 making it to the final selection. Among them, 12 are women, reflecting the academy's commitment to inclusive and gender-responsive education. Alfred Thomas topped the RCA list with an All India Rank (AIR) of 33, followed by Iram Choudhary (AIR 40) and Ruchika Jha (AIR 51). Ruchika credited the academy's competitive and motivating environment for her success and shared that her first preference is the IAS in the AGMUT cadre. Many selected candidates are expected to join top services like the IAS, IPS, IRS, and IRTS. Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof. M.M.A. Rizvi hailed the achievement as a testament to RCA's mission to empower marginalised students.

Jamia's free UPSC coaching helps 32 aspirants clear civil services exam
Turning aspirations into achievements, the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) university's Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) has once again proven to be a beacon of hope for civil service aspirants as a total of 32 students trained there have cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2024, one of the most competitive exams in the country. Of the 78 candidates from theA who reached the interview stage, 32 made it to the final selection list, according to a statement issued by the JMI. Twelve among them are women, reflecting theA's strong emphasis on inclusive and gender-responsive education, the statement said. Alfred Thomas emerged as the academy's top performer this year with an All India Rank (AIR) of 33. He was followed by Iram Choudhary (AIR 40) and Ruchika Jha (AIR 51), all of whom have earned praise for their inspiring journeys. Speaking exclusively to PTI, Jha said, "The Jamia Millia IslamiaA gave me a healthy competitive environment to push myself to work hard. The peer group I got here kept me motivated through tough times. The JMIA has played a crucial role in my UPSC-CSE journey." She added that service allocation is expected in the next four to five months and her first preference is the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre. Several of the selected candidates are likely to be inducted into top services like the IAS and Indian Police Service (IPS), while others will join the India Revenue Service (IRS), Audit and Accounts, Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) and other Group-A services based on their ranks and preferences. Celebrating the achievement, JMI Vice Chancellor Professor Mazhar Asif said, "This result is a matter of great pride. TheA continues to uphold its mission of empowering students from socially- and economically-disadvantaged backgrounds. The performance of our women candidates particularly underscores the potential of inclusive education." Registrar Professor Mohammad Mahtab Alam Rizvi said, "These results are a reflection of the academy's rigorous preparation model and the unwavering determination of our students. TheA has built an environment of excellence that consistently delivers." Professor Samina Bano, the in-charge of theA, was praised for her personalised mentorship and hands-on guidance, which played a crucial role in this year's success. Established in 2010 under the University Grants Commission's (UGC) initiative, theA operates through the university's Centre for Coaching and Career Planning (CC&CP). It offers free coaching and residential facilities to candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minority communities and women. Admission is based on a national-level written test, followed by interviews. The academy's legacy includes Shruti Sharma, the UPSC topper of 2021. Since its inception, theA has helped nearly 300 students enter elite services such as the IAS, IPS and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), while more than 300 others have joined services like CAPF, IB, RBI, Bank PO and various state PSCs. According to the statement, theA's structured programme includes more than 500 hours of classes, mock interviews, special sessions with retired civil servants and experts, and mentorship by successful alumni. It also provides round-the-clock library access, free Wi-Fi and secure residential facilities. The Civil Services Examination is conducted in three stages -- preliminary, mains and interview -- to select officers for the IAS, IFS, IPS and other central services. The preliminary exam was held on June 16, 2024, with 9,92,599 candidates applying and 5,83,213 appearing. A total of 14,627 candidates qualified for the main exam held in September and 2,845 reached the interview stage that was conducted from January 7 to April 17, 2025. This year, the UPSC has recommended 1,009 candidates -- 725 men and 284 women -- for appointment to various services.

New Delhi: Delhi once again distinguished itself in the UPSC civil services examination , with several candidates from the capital securing top ranks. Among the standout institutions, Jamia Millia Islamia 's Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) made a remarkable impact. Thirty-two of its students cleared the exam this year, among them 12 women. Among them, Alfred Thomas has emerged with the highest rank at 33, followed by Iram Chaudhary (AIR 40) and Ruchika Jha (AIR 51). Several of the successful candidates are expected to join prestigious services like the IAS and IPS. RCA provides 500 hours of coaching, covering prelims, mains and interview preparation, supplemented by mock interviews and lectures from retired civil servants and former toppers. It has a strong track record. "In the previous UPSC cycle, 31 candidates from the academy qualified, with Nausheen securing a top-10 rank (AIR 9). Notably, Shruti Sharma, the All India Rank 1 holder in 2022, is also an alumna of RCA. Since its inception in 2010-11 under the UGC's initiative at Jamia's Centre for Coaching and Career Planning, RCA has helped 332 candidates crack the civil services exam," said an official. Jamia's vice-chancellor Mazhar Asif and registrar Mehtab Alam Rizvi congratulated the achievers and particularly applauded the performance of the women, calling them role models for future aspirants. Kirori Mal College (KMC) alumni also made their mark. Two former students secured AIR 18 and 20, highlighting Delhi's strong presence in this year's results. The highest-ranked candidate from Delhi, Akash Garg, a student of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, secured an impressive all-India fifth rank. A graduate in engineering from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, affiliated with IP University, Akash completed his studies in 2022 and succeeded in his second attempt.

Kerala aspirants put up stellar show in Civil Services Exam 2024
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Registering an impressive performance in the Civil Services Examination 2024, candidates from Kerala have secured up to six of the all-India top 100 ranks, of which women clinched five. Alfred Thomas, a Delhi-based Keralite who relocated to the state recently, bagged the all-India 33rd rank. Malavika G Nair (AIR 45), Nandanaa G P (47), Sonnet Jose (54), Reenu Anna Mathew (81) and Devika Priyadersini (95) were the women candidates who figured in the top 100 ranks. Alfred, who was born and brought up in Delhi, shifted to his hometown in Kottayam two years ago. After completing BTech in Mathematics and Computation from Delhi Technological University in 2018, he set his eyes on civil services. 'This was my fifth attempt since 2019, In 2022, I reached up to the interview round, but in vain,' Alfred told TNIE. Besides self-preparation, the 29-year-old had been attending online coaching of the Kerala State Civil Services Academy. According to him, civil services was a dream right from his college days. 'Hard work and determination is key. But along with it, one has to pay equal attention to physical and mental well-being, and utilise time judiciously,' he added. Furthermore, all five women from the state who secured ranks in the examination underwent coaching at Fortune IAS Academy in Thiruvananthapuram. Malavika of Tiruvalla, who clinched the top rank among women candidates, is a 2020 batch IRS officer. This was her sixth and last attempt at the examination, which she passed with flying colours. Her husband M Nadagopan is an IPS officer who had cleared the civil services exam earlier. Meanwhile, in her second attempt, Kottarakkara native Nandanaa was able to clear the civil services examination. After graduation from Mar Ivanios College in Thiruvananthapuram in 2022, she had taken the exam in 2023, however, failed to clear it. Sonnet of Mundakkayam in Kottayam, who graduated in Physics from Miranda House College in Delhi, also clinched the exam in her second attempt. For Reenu from Pathanapuram in Kollam, it was her fourth attempt this year. Whereas for Devika of Chathannoor in Kollam, it was her third attempt which yielded the desired results. She completed her BSMS degree in 2019 from IISER UPSC TOP RANKERS FROM STATE

Keralites shine in Civil Services Examination
Keralites have made their mark in the Civil Services Examinations 2024, the results of which were announced on Tuesday. At least six candidates from the State have secured spots within the top 100 ranks, while at least 24 aspirants from Kerala have been placed within the top 500. Alfred Thomas from Kottayam secured the 33rd rank in his fifth attempt, capping a journey marked by perseverance and determination. Equally remarkable is the achievement of Malavika G. Nair from Thiruvalla, who clinched the 45th rank. An officer with the Indian Revenue Service, she reached this milestone in her sixth and final attempt, just two weeks after giving birth to her child. Some of the other Keralites who made it to the top 300 include Nandanaa G.P. of Valakam (47), Sonnet Jose (54) of Kottayam, Reenu Anna Mathew of Pathanapuram (81), Devika Priyadersini of Kollam (95), Jacob J. Puthenveettiil of Thiruvananthapuram (126), Krishna C. of Perumbavoor (139), Alex Abraham of Thrissur (165), Rajath R. of Nemom (169), Gopika B. of Thiruvananthapuram (185), Sowmya Krishnan of Varkala (196), Vineeth Lohidakshan of Perumbavoor (211), Hemanth Sankar P. of Palakkad (223), Akshay Dileep of Thrissur (246), Niniya Thomas of Ernakulam (254), and Lakshmipriya P. of Kozhikode (297).
