Meet Aliya Fairouz, the first Arab woman to compete in Formula 4 powerboat racing
Emirati racer Aliya Fairouz has achieved an unprecedented milestone by becoming the first Arab woman to compete in Formula 4 races, according to the classifications of the International Powerboating Federation. She secured fifth place in her first international participation and was honored as the first Arab woman to compete in this championship. Aliya was raised in a sports-oriented environment. Her father, Abdulsalam Fairouz, was one of the prominent Formula 2 racers in the 1990s and was among her first supporters and sources of inspiration. She is proud to be following in her father's footsteps, learning from his experience and continuing his legacy. She took part in four races during the second round of the championship and made a strong showing in the Scandinavian International Championship held in Tønsberg, Norway. She completed 24 laps with high efficiency, securing fifth place among 14 international teams. After obtaining her international license from the International Federation, she marked a successful historic debut, proving her merit and distinction in the sport. Aliya said, "I didn't face difficulties in this field, but the main challenge was being the only woman among the competitors. I took that as motivation to prove that women are capable of excelling—even in male-dominated fields. Every woman has a unique talent; she just needs to explore it and work on developing it." She emphasized that the support of the wise leadership and the UAE Marine Sports Federation played a key role in creating the ideal environment for success—through training, workshops, and logistical support. She noted that the UAE has provided all the necessary resources to nurture talent, especially under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation—'Mother of the Nation'—who has continuously supported Emirati women in various fields. Aliya is preparing to participate in several international championships this summer, starting in Sweden, followed by her favorite race in Tønsberg, Norway in August, and ending the season in Viverone, Italy—a major milestone in her athletic career. She expressed her gratitude to the UAE Marine Sports Federation, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, and to the marine clubs—particularly Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club and Sharjah Marine Sports Club—for their technical and moral support and their vital contributions to organizing local championships and developing national talent.

Creating a World with Stencils
When Covid-19 confined the world indoors, few anticipated it would ignite a remarkable creative revolution. For Aliya Ziyad, a Year 12 student at Indian School Mabela, this unexpected pause became the catalyst for an extraordinary artistic journey she had never imagined. At first, Aliya's world was turned upside down, watching mesmerising images on television and dreaming of recreating them. Her curiosity grew into an unwavering passion — how could she transform simple stencils into vibrant masterpieces? With perseverance and determination, she overcame her doubts, turning her ideas into record-breaking reality. Starting from scratch, Aliya immersed herself in the world of stencil art, emulating everything she observed. Her early sketches, born amidst online lessons and lockdowns, began attracting attention. What started as mere experimentation gradually flourished into a remarkable artistic career, earning her fame not only across Oman but internationally. Today, Aliya's name is synonymous with mastery in Mandala art, Arabic calligraphy, doodle art, and fabric painting. Her work resonates with art enthusiasts throughout Oman, inspiring admiration with each piece. Without formal training, she taught herself through online tutorials, turning digital guidance into tangible art. Her portfolio is truly extraordinary: over 300 portraits, each painstakingly crafted through stencil art. Her subjects include prominent figures such as Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, the legendary Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Indian politician Pinarayi Vijayan, international film stars, business magnates like M.A. Yusuff Ali, Jawaharlal Nehru, and numerous cultural icons from around the globe. Many of her artworks are heartfelt gifts to visitors in Oman, poignant tokens of admiration. Aliya's talent has earned her accolades such as the India Book of Records, along with international honours from the World Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records. Her achievements stand as a testament to her dedication and innate artistic flair. Recently, her innovative fusion of traditional folk art—Theyyam and Kathakali—using vivid acrylic colours has captivated many in the Sultanate. Her painting vividly depicts Theyyam, a festival from North Kerala celebrated for its fierce facial expressions and vibrant face paint, capturing its essence of strength and spirituality. The bold reds and whites evoke both passion and divine energy, transforming her work into a cultural celebration. What is most impressive is her ability to finish many of her works within just a few days—each piece a stunning illustration of talent, commitment, and deep cultural pride. Born to Ziyad and Jumi, passionate social workers in Muscat, Aliya is not merely an artist — she is an inspiring, multi-talented young woman. Her sister, Amina, currently pursuing MBBS in Egypt, is also active in extra-curricular and cultural activities, reflecting a family rooted in service, creativity, and ambition. Aliya's story exemplifies how dreams, nurtured with perseverance and passion, can blossom into inspiring realities — proof that art truly has the power to create entire worlds.

Expert warns Mideast tensions could push oil prices above $100
VIENNA, June 15: Economic and financial expert Dr. Bashir Aliya warned on Saturday that escalating tensions in the region could drive global oil prices beyond the $100 mark, following recent Israeli military strikes targeting nuclear and residential sites in Iran. Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Aliya noted that the global oil market reacted swiftly and sharply to the Israeli attacks. Crude prices surged by seven percent, surpassing $75 a barrel amid growing concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz — a critical maritime route through which nearly 20 percent of the world's oil trade passes, making it a vital artery in global energy markets. Dr. Aliya highlighted that Brent crude futures climbed to $74.23 a barrel, marking a significant 7 percent increase, underscoring that the market's response exceeded initial expectations. He further explained that if the tensions persist, oil prices are expected to remain between $78 and $80 per barrel. However, he cautioned that a full-scale escalation could push prices above $100, or even higher. The economist also emphasized that sustained high prices would be supported by continuous large-scale crude purchases from China and India. Both nations, particularly China, rely on steady economic growth to avoid recession — a priority that has become even more crucial amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States. Dr. Aliya's assessment underscores the vulnerability of global energy markets to geopolitical instability in the Middle East, signaling potential challenges ahead for oil supply and pricing.
