Lionel Messi attacked in savage blast after no-show - 'You need to grow up'
Inter Miami stars Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba missed the MLS's All-Star match against Mexican opposition and both received a one-game ban as a result but should not feel hard done by Lionel Messi has been told to 'grow up' after missing the MLS All-Star match. The Inter Miami star, alongside Jordi Alba, did not feature in the game and as a result suffered a one-match ban. Former Barcelona team-mates Messi and Alba were forced to sit out of their team's match with FC Cincinnati as punishment for missing the showpiece event where a team of MLS All-Stars took on their Liga MX counterparts. Ex-US international and LA Galaxy president Alexi Lalas has launched a fiery response to any defence of Messi and the criticism over his punishment. Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano claimed his superstar was fatigued but MLS rules state than anyone skipping the All-Star game without an injury must face a suspension. And Lalas has been left incredulous of the support Messi has received following the decision to miss the game. The 55-year-old believes Messi missed his opportunity to get out of the game when negotiating his deal with the league. 'Fascinating in the way that it has been handled and the reaction to it,' Lalas said on his State of the Union podcast. "We all have either been involved or grown up watching All-Star games and the phenomenon of All-Star Game when it comes to multiple sports here. It's very normal for us… But I will say that the framing that is happening right now of Messi as some saint, waging some righteous fight against the perceived evils and ills of MLS and its structure, or even the very concept of an MLS All-Star game. "That's a little rich, and that's a little ridiculous. He signed his contract. He knew that playing in the All-Star game was part of his contract. So he knew the rules. So Messi, you need to grow up. You need to participate. "And if you didn't want to play in the All-Star game, you had the leverage at the moment you were signing your contract, and you should have negotiated for that." Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas had earlier made a staunch defence of his players and suggested it was the club who took the decision for Messi and Alba not to feature in the All-Star game. The team told the MLS in the days leading to the game that their stars would not play after a schedule of nine matches in 36 days. " Lionel Messi is very upset, like we all are in the club, with the fact that they won't be able to play tomorrow night. But I think what we have to do as a club is to get together as one, have an attitude that is us against the world," Mas said. "I think that the punishment for the rule is frankly draconian," Mas added. "Obviously, it was not a positive reaction [from Messi and Alba]. They want to compete, they want to play games. That's what they're here for, to play and win. They understand the magnitude of tomorrow's night's game. "So no, their reaction was exactly as expected of two competitive players who don't understand the decision, who don't understand why not attending an exhibition match leads directly to a suspension."

Kilkenny Junior B players tormented as trio with 26 All-Ireland medals tog out
The Junior B Hurlers of Kilkenny were in for a shock when a trio of greats turned up to play in a recent Championship quarterfinal, with the Cats legends boasting a whopping 26 All-Ireland medals between them. Jackie Tyrrell and Eoin Larkin lined out for James Stephens while JJ Delaney was in the squad for Fenians in the JJ Kavanagh Junior B Hurling Championship Quarter-Final. Despite all three man being in the twilight of their careers and in their 40s, they are still lining out for their club to this day. Both Larkin and Tyrrell have the bragging rights this time round, with James Stephens running out 2-26 to 3-07 winners. All three have had illustrious careers with Kilkenny, but Tyrrell and Larkin won an All-Ireland title and three Kilkenny Senior Championships with their club when at the peak of their powers in the 2000s. There are very few Junior B pitches around the country that would have the amount of All-Ireland medals and All-Stars on display. Eoin Larkin won eight All-Ireland titles during his spell with the Cats, as well as two All-Stars and a Hurler of the Year Award, while JJ Delaney won nine All-Ireland and seven All-Stars to go along with his Player of the Year gong. Tyrrell also won nine All-Star awards during his time with Kilkenny and four All-Star awards. Even at the age of 43, Tyrrell is still considered mobile enough to play in the middle third. He lined out at wing back, while Eoin Larkin was at corner forward. JJ Delaney was a substitute; he made his Kilkenny debut in 2001.

Lionel Messi Spotted At Coldplay Concert, Chris Martin Calls Him 'No 1 Sportsperson'
Suspended for Inter Miami's bout against FC Cincinnati, Lionel Messi spent time with his wife at the Coldplay concert in the North American city. Football icon Lionel Messi was spotted at Coldplay's jumbotron alongside his better half in the North American city. Fans jumped and roared in excitement at the concert as a giant screen unveiled Messi's presence, while Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, welcomed the world cup winner to the concert. 'Welcome to my beautiful brother," said Martin from the stage, looking at Messi, who was smiling as he waved acknowledging the loud reception. 'You and your wife are looking so fine. Thanks for coming today to see our band play. The No.1 sportsperson of all time," Martin said. Messi went to the Coldplay concert after attending Inter Miami's goalless draw against FC Cincinnati, for which the 38-year-old had been suspended amidst a breach of an All-Stars match regulation. Speculations had been rife about Messi's absence for the friendly encounter that featured 26 MLS players, including Hirving Lozano, Jordi Alba and Diego Rossi. Even as MLS authorities were desperate for Messi's appearance because of his incredible fame that would've attracted humongous viewership, he gave the game a skip. Because Messi took no part in the MLS All-Stars fixture, he was handed a one-match ban by the Major League Soccer authorities. Messi though was present in the stands on Saturday with Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas calling the punishment 'draconian". He also revealed the legend was 'extremely upset" over the sanction that sidelined him for an important match. 'To fill stadiums and sell tickets, nobody complains. It's strange, one day they say something, and the next day they say something else. We all heard what was said — that it was understandable the number of matches that he had been playing," said Miami's coach Javier Mascherano, reiterating that the ban was imposed despite the club informing MLS officials about the fatigue Messi dealt with amidst a congested schedule. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
