Alex Jones' car turned into a 'big hedge' by Doctor Who set designers

Alex Jones' car turned into a 'big hedge' by Doctor Who set designers 'The One Show' presenter, 48, once scrambled to get out of her home in Cardiff, Wales, at 4:30am and drive to film a TV music programme Alex Jones has been sharing her antique fair finds on social media (Image: Alex Jones (Instagram @alexjonesthomson) ) Alex Jones' car was unexpectedly turned into a "big hedge" by 'Doctor Who' set designers. 'The One Show' presenter, 48, once scrambled to get out of her home in Cardiff, Wales, at 4:30am and drive to film a TV music programme, but Alex panicked when she opened her front door and saw her yellow Volkswagen Beetle had "disappeared" as the BBC One sci-fi series shot a "period piece" in her street. ‌ Alex explained to McFly drummer Harry Judd, 39, on their 'Binge!' podcast: "When I was living in Cardiff, where they filmed 'Doctor Who', I once had to leave at 4.30[am] in the morning to go and record a music programme that I was presenting at the time. ‌ "It was a television programme, but we had to be in makeup at 6[am]. It was quite a drive, right? Anyway, so 4:30[am], I opened the front door, and my car disappeared, which I panic. "But instead, there's a big hedge outside my house. What had happened was the team of 'Doctor Who' - what do you call them, like designers, had turned my car into a hedge because they were filming on the street." ‌ Harry asked the TV star if it was a "prank", to which Alex replied: "No, so they were filming a period piece in 'Doctor Who'. "And, of course, they didn't want any modern-looking cars on the street." The 'All About You' hitmaker asked the former presenter of the BBC One shopping budgeting documentary series, 'Shop Well For Less': "They didn't ask your permission?" Article continues below Alex - who is set to appear in an episode of the current series of 'Doctor Who' "soon" where she had to "interview a guy" - admitted: "Well, maybe a slip of paper had come through the door. "And so I opened the front door, no car, and then realised that my lovely yellow Beetle at the time had been turned into a hedge ... "I just found somebody with a clipboard and said, 'Guys, I'm really sorry, but I'm going to need to move.' And they were like, 'Oh, no, what?! This is why we're filming at this time in the morning.'"

LeAnn Rimes quits The Voice UK

LeAnn Rimes has quit 'The Voice' after just one series. The 'Can't Fight the Moonlight' hitmaker has stepped down from the panel of the talent show in order to focus on her career in America, including serving as a mega-mentor with Sheryl Crow on the US version of 'The Voice. A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: 'LeAnn loved her time on the UK show, but wants to focus on her career in the States. 'She was hugely popular with cast and crew and everybody loved having her as part of the team. 'Bosses are currently on the lookout for another female singer to join the all-star line-up, they haven't made a decision just yet but are having conversations. "Producers know they've had some amazing names so far, from Olly Murs to Anne-Marie, so they want to secure someone who will cause a lot of excitement around the show and bring a new energy to the competition.' According to the outlet, McFly's Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher will return again as a duo, alongside show veterans and Sir Tom Jones, but a spokesperson for the programme declined to comment. The news comes shortly after Danny admitted he and Tom were hoping to be asked back for another series. He told the Daily Star newspaper's Hot TV column: "Fingers crossed we'll be back on 'The Voice'. "Me and Tom have a real passion for it, and I think people could see that." Tom added: "'The Voice' is a fantastic show. "I feel very lucky that I got to be part of it. We had a brilliant time. "I got to share my advice and stories. I have 21 years of experience, and if that's useful to someone, then that's great. "I would love to do another series." The 'All About You' hitmakers were the winning coaches last year with their act Ava Mannings - who they mentored on the show - taking the victory, and they have kept in contact with Ava since her win to offer their support and guidance. Danny said: "It wasn't just about mentoring acts during the show, but also afterwards. "The aftercare is important. We really want Ava to do well."

I'm a McFly superfan and their Tunes on the Bay headline set left me speechless

I'm a McFly superfan and their Tunes on the Bay headline set left me speechless McFly's headline gig has set the standard for the future of Tunes on the Bay performers McFly headlined the first night of Swansea first ever beach festival, Tunes on the Bay (Image: Indigo Jones ) I've grown up with McFly's music. I distinctly remember being five years old and dancing to Five Colours in Her Hair and wanting to be the girl that they sang about. Fast forward and now I am 25 and watching McFly perform in my home town of Swansea, headlining the first ever Tunes on the Bay festival. The sun was beating down, the sand was under my feet, and I was transformed back in time to the early noughties and the nostalgia hit me. ‌ The band followed Scouting for Girls on the line-up and came out to an extra-dramatic version of the Village People classic YMCA, before rocking out with one of their more recent tracks Where Did All the Guitars Go? From superstar gigs to cosy pubs find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here. ‌ Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd, and Dougie Poynter were all on form as they walked on stage ready to rock the audience of Swansea beach. Danny was the first to speak, saying: "Are you ready Swansea?" The festival marked their first gig of their summer tour and they described Swansea as "a beautiful place". In all honesty I was in awe as I couldn't believe that one of my favourite bands growing up were right in front of me. They played all the classic songs including Obviously, One for the Radio, Shine a Light, and one of my personal favourites Star Girl, where they made sure to do their signature moves dancing across the stage together with their guitars. Article continues below The band dedicated the song All About You to a fan from Port Talbot who they met in a service station the previous day (Image: Indigo Jones ) One of the highlights of the night had to be when they dedicated a song to Joel, a TikTok sensation from Port Talbot who shows how amazing people with Down's Syndrome are. The band bumped in to Joel the day before in a service station and as a result they dedicated the song All About You, saying it's: "All about Joel". It was an incredibly touching moment and showed how kind and considerate the band are to their fans. The audience sang along to each lyric in tandem to one of McFly's biggest songs as Joel and his family were overwhelmed by the gesture. ‌ Another great moment from the show involved a mash-up of iconic song covers including Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer, the Village People's YMCA, Queen's Radio Gaga, and finally The Beatles' Twist and Shout. The band and the audience were all united in singing the lyrics and doing the famous dances for each song. I would have loved if the band interacted with the audience a little bit more although they obviously only had a set amount of time and wanted to squeeze in as many fan favourite songs as possible. However Dougie did joke at one point by asking the audience to all put their middle fingers up to his bandmate Tom. Ultimately this showed that in reality they are just a bunch of mates who have become famous for making music together and are now just messing about on stage for audiences to see. This also happens to be what makes them so loveable and relatable because realistically don't we all just want to be making money from enjoying ourselves and pratting about with our pals? ‌ They ended on my childhood favourite song, Five Colours in Her Hair, which saw the audience go absolutely wild – myself included. I felt like a child again, dancing with my friends until the point we gave ourselves a headache, which is always the sign of a good time and maybe a sign that I am also getting older. In that moment everyone in the audience were screaming at the top of their lungs and jumping around like they were possessed – and in a way they were as they were possessed by the nostalgia with the audience overrun by people who grew up with McFly's music. The band ended on Five Colours in Her Hair before throwing guitar picks, drum sticks, and even a sweaty towel in to the audience (Image: Indigo Jones ) Article continues below The band were fantastic and I think Tunes on the Bay are going to struggle to find a headline act that can match or even exceed their energy and performance. They have really set the standard for not just the rest of the weekend of the festival, which will see Supergrass headlining on Saturday, but also for the future of the festival. As someone who grew up in the early noughties to hear the songs of my childhood being played live in my hometown with my friends by my side left me speechless – and, trust me, that takes a lot.

'We'll do Paddington proud' - Tom Fletcher reveals details of musical

McFly star Tom Fletcher has said he felt "overwhelming excitement" working on the new Paddington stage musical, which producers have confirmed will open in November. The singer-songwriter said he hoped the music and lyrics he has written for the show would "do Paddington proud", adding that the musical numbers are "my favourite songs I've ever written". The show will open at the Savoy Theatre in the West End on 1 November, and follow Paddington as he arrives from Peru seeking a new home in London. The musical, which has been in development for five years, is based on Michael Bond's original novels and follows the hugely successful recent film series. Speaking about the show for the first time, Fletcher told BBC News he felt "so honoured and lucky" to be working on the project, which he said would reflect "all of the fun, warmth and heart that the books and movies have captured so brilliantly". "There is something so magical about seeing Paddington step out on to the stage, and seeing him... I was about to say in the flesh, but I guess in the fur is more accurate," he joked. Fletcher is best-known as the founding member of pop band McFly, whose hits include All About You, Obviously and Star Girl, and is also a successful children's author. He was first approached about Paddington around the time of the first Covid lockdown in early 2020, and workshopped the project with scriptwriter Jessica Swale, director Luke Sheppard and the producers before the show was formally announced in 2023. With the musical now almost ready to launch, Swale told BBC News it would feature "lots of juicy new material". "We're bringing a lot of new flavours to the table, but of course we're all in love with the original material, so we've been faithful to our cast of characters," she said. "Of course the Browns are part of it, and familiar faces like Mr Gruber and Mr Curry, but there are a lot of new people as well. We've been very inspired by the books and the films but we like to think we're covering new territory." Bond's first book in the series, A Bear Called Paddington, was published in 1958. The author went on to write 29 Paddington books in total, the final one being Paddington at St Paul's, which was published posthumously in 2018. The stories have sold more than 35 million copies worldwide. Fletcher said he relished the opportunity to find what "the musical language" of Paddington was. "Having something that everybody knows but no-one's heard what it sounds like yet is a really exciting thing to be able to work on," he explained. He recalled that, when producer Eliza Lumley first called him about the project, he not only immediately replied with "a very fast 'yes please'", but began writing music for the show right away. "While I was still on the phone to her, I had the idea for a song, so I went and wrote my first song for it that night, instantly after getting off the phone, and that song is still in the musical now." He reflected: "My instant reaction wasn't to be intimidated, it was to be excited and just so inspired by these stories and films that I already knew, I just jumped straight at my piano and started writing." The three film adaptations of Paddington, featuring the voice of Ben Whishaw, have been a huge success at the box office since the first was released in 2014. In recent years, London has seen pop group Abba represented by virtual avatars on stage, while some animated film characters have been depicted using more traditional puppeteering methods, such as snowman Olaf in the stage adaptation of Frozen. It has not yet been revealed what approach producers will take to representing Paddington in the theatre. "I don't know what you're talking about, he's a bear!" joked Swale. "He's travelling from Peru to be a special part of our show!" She continued: "I can't give away our secrets. One of the things I'm most excited about for this show is the character of Paddington." Swale credits producers Lumley and Sonia Friedman for "really experimenting with every possible way that we could tell the bear's story in the best way, and the magic that they've found in how they do it', adding: 'Every single time I see Paddington for the first time, it makes me cry. "I think he's completely magic, and to me he's very real. But I don't think audiences will be disappointed. It's a wonderful, theatrical version of how to tell this story." As for the character himself, Swale noted the musical "also reveals the spirit and the politics of Paddington". "For example, Paddington is a refugee, so we want to honour the fact that he is somebody who migrates to the UK and doesn't have a home, and make sure we are conscious of the experience of who he represents." Between now and the show's opening in November, Fletcher said the team would be "fine-tuning for as long as we can, and making sure that we get it absolutely right". He added: "I really hope that I've done everyone who loves Paddington justice... This is so different to anything I've ever done before. I feel like this show is so ready to be out in the world, it's the most special thing I've ever been a part of in my whole life." The 39-year-old will be on tour with McFly and Busted when the musical opens in November, "so I'll be going from touring with the band and then rushing back to London to fit it all in", he explained. "It's a slightly hectic schedule, but we'll make it work somehow. I might get confused and start singing Paddington songs on stage with McFly." Most important, of course, is the question of whether or not Paddington's favourite food will feature in the stage adaptation. "You can rest easy," laughed Swale. "Marmalade features not only in the book and the lyrics, but physically on stage in a spectacular way."
