Digital finance companies call for stricter e-gambling regulations

Digital finance companies association FinTech Alliance PH is pushing for stricter regulations and enhance regulatory measures for licensed online gaming platforms and their users. According to a statement on Tuesday, founder Lito Villanueva said that FinTech Alliance has recognized the risks of e-gambling and sought for protections for Filipino consumers. 'We are united in our commitment to be part of the solution by working closely with regulators, elevating safeguards, and protecting the welfare of Filipino consumers,' said Villanueva. FinTech Alliance recommended Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) for all merchant accounts for online platforms, continuous monitoring and blacklisting of illegal sites, and strict compliance with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' (BSP) regulations on payment channels. The Alliance also recommended reasonable restrictions be implemented on e-gambling platforms. 'We remain aligned with the BSP in ensuring that access to payment channels for online licensed gaming is strictly controlled, and that all FinTech Alliance members adopt robust due diligence measures,' Villanueva added. The Alliance was also backed by Senator Win Gatchalian, who echoed their sentiments for stricter e-gambling regulations. 'I welcome the stance of fintech companies to tighten the safeguards of online gambling that has now become a scourge for many individuals, including young people,' Gatchalian said. The statement falls in line with Senator Risa Hontiveros' statement on the accountability of casino operators and digital platforms. FinTech Alliance said that they will continue public awareness efforts to curb the risks of e-gambling. 'Financial literacy and responsible use are essential pillars of inclusive digital finance. As an industry, we are committed to upholding these values,' Villanueva said. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA Integrated News

Zelensky Welcomes New NATO-US Deal on Patriot Missile Deliveries

ISTANBUL, July 15 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday welcomed a new NATO-US arrangement to deliver Patriot missile systems and other military aid to Ukraine, following talks with US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. In a statement posted on X, Zelensky described his conversation with Trump as 'very good,' adding that they discussed efforts 'to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace.' He said Trump had briefed him on his earlier meeting with Rutte and stressed the importance of increased defence spending by Alliance members, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. bootstrap slideshow 'We reviewed steps to improve protection against Russian attacks and agreed to coordinate our actions moving forward,' said Zelensky. He also spoke with Rutte, who updated him on the discussions in Washington and reaffirmed NATO's ongoing support for Ukraine. 'We appreciate the readiness to provide additional Patriot systems. The US, Germany, and Norway are already working jointly on this,' Zelensky said, noting that further weapons deliveries were expected to strengthen Ukraine's defences. 'Russia must be forced to stop the killings. This war continues solely because of Russia due to Putin's desire to prolong it. Peace is only possible through strength,' he added. Zelensky also underscored the need to cut off Russia's war financing and to end its military ties with Iran and North Korea. He said new joint decisions were in the works with the US, Germany and Norway regarding Patriot air defence systems, alongside long-term defence agreements with Washington.

Zelensky praises Trump for handing Ukraine multi-billion pound war chest

Donald Trump has unveiled a multi-billion pound war chest designed to help Ukraine fend off a major new offensive by Vladimir Putin's invading forces - here's what we know about the US plan Volodymyr Zelenksy has praised Donald Trump for handing Ukraine a multi-billion pound war chest of lethal weapons to fight off Russia. A range of weapons including 17 powerful Patriot missiles will be soon be sent to Kyiv via the US's European allies - while on Monday, Trump warned Putin he has just 50 days to settle a peace deal or be hit by tariffs of up to 100%. It's one of the first signs that Trump - who appeared to cosy up to Putin after returning to the White House - may finally be moving his sympathies in favour of Kyiv, and is ready to give Ukraine some of the vital weapons it needs to defend itself. Zelensky last night said he'd had a "very good conversation" with Trump and thanked him for his "willingness to support Ukraine". Here's what we know about what Trump has promised Ukraine: ‌ ‌ What's the thinking behind the plan? The new plan is designed to let the US to funnel more firepower to Ukraine to combat invading Russian forces while easing the financial burden on Washington, something which Trump has complained about on many occasions. Russian forces are currently in the middle of a major summer offensive, and are trying to force the Ukrainians out of some more marginally-held territory. It is hoped that increased weapons shipments from NATO allies, combined with possible new penalties Trump has promised if a halt to the fighting isn't reached in 50 days, could push Russian President Vladimir Putin into peace talks that Trump has championed for months. All of his previous attempts have failed. ‌ How is Trump sending the weapons to Ukraine? The US plans to sell Patriot missile batteries - systems ideal for shielding territory against incoming missile attacks - and other weapons to European allies. These would then be transferred to Kyiv. Sat next to NATO chief Mark Rutte in the White House yesterday, Trump said: "We're going to supply weapons to NATO at a large amount." ‌ Rutte said Britain, Germany, Finland, Canada, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark are among the buyers who will help supply Ukraine. What has Zelensky said? The Ukrainian president has not yet spoken about the details of the plan - but it's clear his relationship with Trump has vastly improved since being berated in the infamous Oval Office meeting earlier this year. Zelensky wrote last night on X (formerly Twitter): "I spoke with POTUS. It was a very good conversation. Thank you for the willingness to support Ukraine and to continue working together to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace. President Trump shared details about his meeting with the Secretary General of NATO. "It's important that we have such a good relationship, and that the Alliance countries are working to increase defence spending. "We discussed the necessary means and solutions with the President to provide better protection for people from Russian attacks and to strengthen our positions. "We are ready to work as productively as possible to achieve peace. We agreed to catch up more often by phone and coordinate our steps in the future as well. Thank you, Mr. President! Thank you, America!
