Alpine F1 Issues Statement As It Takes A Stand Against Recent Online Hate
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Alpine Formula 1 team has issued a statement following the increase in online hate, both towards Jack Doohan and Yuki Tsunoda. The Australian driver has faced severe online hate since the French team signed Argentinian driver Franco Colapinto as a reserve driver for the 2025 season, before promoting him to Doohan's seat for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. At the time of Colapinto's signing with Alpine, his manager Jamie Campbell-Walter, urged the Argentinian driver's fans to "conduct themselves with passion but not abuse." He wrote, as previously reported by Newsweek Sports: "The haters who think they help Franco. You are doing him more harm than good. Insults to the team, to Jack and sometimes to other supporters of Alpine. Franco and all of us who support him are fans of the whole team, Pierre and Jack. Conduct yourselves with passion but not abuse and arrogance. Franco's time will come but not like this, you will achieve the opposite." Franco Colapinto of Argentina driving the (43) Alpine F1 A525 Renault makes a pitstop during the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 18, 2025 in Imola, Italy. Franco Colapinto of Argentina driving the (43) Alpine F1 A525 Renault makes a pitstop during the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 18, 2025 in Imola, French team has now shared the following statement: "As an F1 team, we believe we are fortunate to be part of a global sport that evokes great passion and emotions, with an ever-growing community of fans who enthusiastically follow their favourite drivers' every move, whether it be a brave overtake on track or what style they are sporting when they arrive in the paddock. "We encourage everyone to remember that behind the visor of these superhuman athletes there is a person. An individual with feelings, family, friends and loved ones. As a team, we cannot condone online abuse and urge all fans of this sport we love, to be kind and respectful." TEAM STATEMENT — BWT Alpine Formula One Team (@AlpineF1Team) May 19, 2025 Colapinto also stepped in over the weekend after Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda was on the receiving end of online hate after the pair had an on-track incident. Speaking to the media in Imola, the Alpine driver commented: "I blocked him yesterday - he was right. "I blocked quite a few people yesterday, just the first day with the car, with the team, it's always a bit of miscommunication and a bit tricky. And yeah, I blocked him. "He probably was a bit upset. He's right to be upset, it's fine. I don't know what the Argentinians did?" When he was told about the online response, Colapinto added: "I know they are extremely passionate, and they are always very harsh on people. They have to give respect, and that's what we all want. "There is a lot of hate on social media ... so of course we always try and want, for all the drivers, to keep it respectful and keep it calm there."

F1 Driver's Imola Qualifying Goes From Bad To Worse After Penalty And Crash
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Alpine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto has been hit with a grid penalty following qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which he crashed out of. The Argentinian driver was the second to crash during qualifying after Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda also suffered a horrific crash which saw his RB21 flip in the air. Thankfully, both drivers were okay and were cleared by the medical center. However, Colapinto has now been hit with a one-place grid penalty after some confusion with his team meant that he entered the fast lane of the pit lane before a re-start time had been confirmed after Tsunoda's crash. Colapinto will now start the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix from 16th on the grid. Oscar Piastri secured pole position and will be joined on the front row by Max Verstappen. Franco Colapinto of Argentina and Alpine F1 arrives in the Paddock during previews ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 15, 2025 in Imola, Italy. Franco Colapinto of Argentina and Alpine F1 arrives in the Paddock during previews ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on May 15, 2025 in Imola, did the FIA say? The official letter from the Stewards states: "Fact: Entering fast lane in the pit lane before a re-start time was confirmed. "Infringement: Breach of Article 12.2.1 i) of the International Sporting Code and non-compliance with Race Director's Event Note (item 17, document 4). "Decision: Drop of 1 grid position for the next Race in which the driver participates. "Reason: The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 43 (Franco Colapinto), team representative and reviewed video, team radio and in-car video evidence and determined as follows: "The team representative stated that he gave the instruction for the car to creep out but not be fully released. The driver misunderstood the instruction and entered the fast lane before the re-start time was officially confirmed in breach of the Race Director's event notes. Once this was done, it was too late to reverse course and the team instructed the driver to proceed down the pit lane. "The team argued that there was no sporting advantage gained in this case as there was sufficient time remaining for other teams to perform their run plans as this was the start of the session. The team representative and the driver apologised for the inadvertent breach. "The Stewards consider that this breach was inadvertent but it did require a sporting penalty to be imposed. However as the breach was unintentional and this did not result in any sporting advantage, we decided to impose a one position grid penalty. "A similar breach in different circumstances, could entail a more severe sporting penalty, in future."

Pierre Gasly: Alpine in 'much better place' at Imola GP despite crash with rabbit
Alpine Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly heralded 2025 Imola Grand Prix practice as 'the best Friday so far this year', despite admitting a crash with a rabbit hampered his running. After a turbulent few weeks for the French side, which has featured the resignation of team boss Oliver Oakes and the announcement a mid-season driver swap, Gasly was on fine form in the first day of practice at the Imola GP. Advertisement The French driver's time of 1m15.569s was the third quickest lap of the second session, and put him a little under three tenths off the pace of the leading McLaren pair. 'It's been a very, very good Friday,' Gasly told Sky TV after the second practice session in Italy. 'From the first lap, I could tell the car was in a much better place than in Miami. I'm glad we managed to answer some of the question marks we had after the last race. 'Obviously, we know from Friday to Saturday, others usually keep a bit more in their pocket, but I think it's quite fair to say it's probably been the best Friday so far this year.' However, it wasn't all plane sailing for the French racer on the first day of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. In the day's earlier session, Gasly was caught out by an animal on track. Gasly said he 'very sadly' collided with a rabbit that ran out onto the track during FP1, a clash that reportedly damaged his A525 and impacted his running for the session. 'I couldn't tell if it was a small cat or a big rabbit,' the Frenchman added. Advertisement 'It turned out that it was a big rabbit just jumping across the track. I could not avoid it, so I had quite a big impact on the front wing. 'Unfortunately, that was it for the rabbit and [it] also broke the front wing. It was not ideal, but not the end of the session we wanted.' Despite his crash with the wildlife, Gasly still managed to log 21 laps over the course of first practice and recorded a best time of 1m16.696s – good enough for sixth place. Chiefs Patrick Mahomes And Tom Brady Spotted Partying in Miami
With the NFL offseason close to beginning for veterans across the league it is no wonder players are trying to soak up every minute they can before hitting the grind and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is no different. The three-time Super Bowl winner was in Miami over the weekend for the Miami Grand Prix as part of a likely business trip, with Mahomes being an investor in the Alpine Formula 1 team. Advertisement But just because this is a little business trip, doesn't mean Patrick and his wife Brittany can't mix in a little pleasure either, right? In what was a kid-free experience for the parents, Patrick and Brittany were snapped by TMZ with a host of celebrities at a party at Cabone Beach, which featured Mahomes and Tom Brady, along with musician Jelly Roll, and others. Given that some alone time would be hard to come by for Patrick and Brittany, it appears that a quick trip to Miami for the Formula 1 was just what was needed ahead of the grueling NFL offseason Mahomes is about to embark on. With rookies going through their paces at various mini-camps across the league, veterans, like Mahomes, aren't expected to be in attendance, and it is clear that Patrick and Brittany wanted to let their hair down one last time before the NFL season takes a foothold in their lives. Advertisement Mahomes will be looking for the Alpine Formula 1 team to do well at the Grand Prix before heading back to Kansas City, where he will begin the long, arduous journey back to what he hopes will be another Super Bowl appearance.
