Former Browns WR Amari Cooper comes in as 99th best Cleveland player all-time

Former Browns WR Amari Cooper comes in as 99th best Cleveland player all-time Today's countdown of the top 100 Cleveland Browns players of all time features a recent subtraction. The Browns probably didn't envision this player leaving like he did. Before leaving, Browns fans quickly embraced the superstar talent, especially with his blue-collar approach to the game. This player's early exit was a sign that the Browns' season was over. Yesterday, we kicked off the list with wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Today, the 99th best player in Cleveland Browns history is… 99. Amari Cooper, WR Amari Cooper is one of the best wide receivers in the history of football. The Miami, Florida, native had an excellent collegiate career with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He won the Biletnikoff Award and was named a unanimous All-American in 2014. Cooper was drafted with the fourth pick in the 2015 NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders. Cooper played four seasons for them before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys for the 27th pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He played four seasons there before being traded to the Cleveland Browns for the 155th pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The Browns didn't keep Cooper for long. He played 38 games for the team, recording 2,660 yards, 16 touchdowns on 174 receptions. Cooper's 70 receiving yards per game currently ranks third in Browns' history. He also holds the Browns' record for most receiving yards in a single game with 265 yards. Last season, the Browns traded Cooper to the Buffalo Bills for the 94th pick in the draft. So far, Cooper has played 154 games in his career, totaling 10,033 yards, 64 touchdowns on 711 receptions. He made the Pro Bowl five times in his ten seasons. Cooper joined the Browns near the height of his career. Cooper has always been a tremendously skilled receiver, but he was a technical marvel with the Browns. He was the most consistent Browns receiver I've ever watched. He is a craftsman who made every route look identical until he made his cut. Cooper showed expert technique and pacing on every route. Watching him in All-22 made me a smarter fan. Last season, Cooper battled through injuries and had a disappointing stint with the Bills. He's currently a free agent, but I think he'll find a home soon. Cooper is a great receiver who will soon return to producing.

3 WRs Raiders Should Consider Adding After June 1st

3 WRs Raiders Should Consider Adding After June 1st originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders had one of the worst quarterback situations in the entire NFL during the 2024 season. Fortunately, new general manager John Spytek upgraded by trading for veteran Geno Smith this offseason. Advertisement However, there are still a few question marks at the wide receiver position heading into the next phase of the offseason program. Jakobi Meyers is a surefire starter, but it is currently unknown who will emerge alongside him. Third-year Tre Tucker as well as rookies Jack Bech, Dont'e Thornton Jr. and Tommy Mellott will look to make a case, but Las Vegas could stand to add a veteran into the mix. Former Jacksonville Jaguars WR Gabe Davis (0).Morgan Tencza-Imagn Images 1. Gabe Davis Davis was just released by the Jaguars last month after signing a three-year, $39 million deal with Jacksonville last offseason. This release came on the heels of a 20-catch, 239-yard campaign in which he missed almost half of the season due to injury. Advertisement Fortunately, Davis showed that he can be a solid supporting receiver in the first four years of his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills. He just turned 26 years old as well, so there is plenty of time for him to still develop and grow. His base salary this season will only be $1.5 million, so he could be a cheap and young option for the Raiders to add. 2. Amari Cooper Cooper was drafted by the franchise with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Although fans were upset about the way he left in 2018, a reunion could be in play for what is a completely new Raiders team. Last season, Cooper struggled to find his footing after being traded from the Browns to the Bills, but he still put together 44 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns in 2024. He may not be the receiver that he once was, but he is just one year removed from a Pro Bowl campaign and has plenty of gas in the tank to help Las Vegas in 2025. 3. Keenan Allen Allen was a longtime foe of the Silver and Black, but he has a chance to redeem himself to Raider Nation by signing a deal with the team this season. His market value is just $11 million according to Spotrac, which should be well within the wheelhouse for Las Vegas. Advertisement He also has a strong connection to the Raiders, as wide receivers coach Chris Beatty has coached Allen at each of his last two stops with the Chargers and Bears. His 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns last season is the most of any player on this list, so despite being 33 years old already, Allen could be a strong short-term investment. Former Bills Receiver Seen As Strong Fit For AFC Contender

Former Bills Receiver Seen As Strong Fit For AFC Contender originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When the Buffalo Bills acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns, they had hoped his Pro Bowl experience would be enough to make him the top target in their offense. Advertisement That didn't go exactly to plan. The 30-year-old receiver battled injuries throughout his half season in Western New York, and was a non-factor for the rest of his games. The fact that he could not succeed with a top quarterback like Josh Allen throwing him the ball left some wondering if Cooper's career was coming to an end. Those concerns may be put on hold in the coming weeks, though. NFL reporter Gilberto Manzano believes that Cooper could end up signing a free agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. "Cooper, who turns 31 in June, had a quiet, brief stint with the Bills after being traded by the Browns midway through the season," Manzano wrote. "He's still a solid route runner capable of opening up the field for his teammates. The Steelers are thin at wide receiver after sending George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys." Advertisement Pittsburgh has been looking for a quality second option at receiver so it makes sense that they would target a player like Cooper. It doesn't make him the right choice, though. The struggles Cooper went through in Buffalo forced the Bills to spend even more money this offseason on Joshua Palmer. No one would confused Palmer's start to his career to someone like Cooper's, and yet the Bills made the roster move anyways. It's a sign that the team isn't high on a former player of theirs. And Pittsburgh could end up walking into a struggling situation if they went down that road. Related: Diggs 'Getting Cut Is On The Table' for Patriots Amid 'Pink Crystals' Controversy? Jets named best team fit for top free agent WR

Even though the NFL offseason is cruising along and free agency is in its third or fourth wave at this point, there are still plenty of quality options on the market for teams that are still trying to fill needs. While the New York Jets addressed lots of needs in the draft, they could still use help, specifically at the wide receiver position. They have a star in Garrett Wilson, but after that it is largely a group of guys competing for snaps. Advertisement Players like Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds could be in line for large roles in the offense, and they did draft Arian Smith in the fourth round, but having a proven weapon opposite of Wilson could do wonders for quarterback Justin Fields and the offense. In a recent article from ESPN in which Matt Bowen named the best team fit for the top remaining free agents, he came to the conclusion that wide receiver Amari Cooper's best fit is with the Jets. It does make sense from the Jets' perspective. While Cooper is 30 years old and his best playing days are most likely behind him, he would go in and instantly compete for snaps and elevate the WR position. Here is what Bowen said about Cooper's fit with the Jets: There's a need for competition in the Jets' wide receiver room opposite of No. 1 option Garrett Wilson. With Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds next on the depth chart, Cooper could come in and fight for work. Yes, the 30-year-old is showing signs of decline on tape, but he is still a detailed route runner who can uncover. He could be a solid target for quarterback Justin Fields on play-action concepts, getting open on deep in-breakers. In 14 games with the Browns and Bills last season, Cooper caught 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns. In nine full seasons, he has topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark seven times and caught 64 career touchdown passes. Advertisement Cooper would at the very least raise the floor of the Jets' receiving corps and bring experience to a young Jets roster. He is a four-time pro bowler who has six 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. Just two years ago, Cooper had one of the best seasons in his 11-year career when recorded a career-high 1,250 receiving yards (2023). Aside from the financials, Cooper would also need to agree to join a team that is in a transitioning phase at this point in his career. He doesn't have all the time in the world and he's most likely still ultimately trying to win a Super Bowl. Dallas Cowboys could sign Amari Cooper after George Pickens trade

Cowboys eye Cooper return to boost offense (Image via: Getty Images) The Dallas Cowboys bolstered their offense by trading for George Pickens, but their pursuit of wide receiver help may not be over. Prior to the trade, reports linked the team to a possible reunion with Amari Cooper, now a free agent. With depth still a concern, Cooper remains a potential target as Dallas looks to stay competitive in the NFC East. Amari Cooper comeback could be the key to Dak Prescott 's success Why The Hell Did The Steelers Trade George Pickens For A 3rd Round Pick?! | Pat McAfee Show While the George Pickens trade has sparked excitement among Cowboys fans, questions remain about whether Dallas has done enough to support Dak Prescott. If the team hopes to keep pace with NFC East rivals like the Eagles, it may need more than just Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. That's where a potential Amari Cooper reunion enters the conversation. Once the Cowboys' top wideout, Cooper was traded to the Browns in 2022 and then moved to the Bills in 2024. Now a free agent, his name is resurfacing in Dallas—a move that could bring veteran stability to a receiving corps still searching for consistency. The Cowboys opted not to draft a receiver this year, showing confidence in players like Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo. However, both remain unproven. Depending solely on Lamb and Pickens could leave the offense vulnerable, especially in high-stakes matchups. The strategic case for bringing Amari Cooper back to Dallas Re-signing Cooper would be both strategic and familiar. He totaled nearly 4,000 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns during his time in Dallas and earned his fifth Pro Bowl nod in 2023. Spotrac projects his market value at $37 million over two years, but with the offseason winding down, a more affordable deal isn't out of the question. Amari Cooper fits perfectly into this pattern. As the Dallas Cowboys face tough competition from NFC East rivals like the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. Re-signing Cooper wouldn't just be a sentimental nod to the past; it could be a crucial, strategic move to bolster the Cowboys' receiving corps and give Dak Prescott the reliable weapon he needs to compete at the highest level.
