The Thursday Murder Club Trailer: Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie Join Forces To Solve Murder Case

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for The Thursday Murder Club, the highly anticipated adaptation of Richard Osman's best-selling debut novel. Directed by Chris Columbus (known for helming Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter films), the murder mystery is set to premiere on August 28 on the streaming platform. The film stars Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie as four retirees — Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim, and Joyce — who spend their leisure time solving unsolved murders from the comfort of their retirement village. But things take a serious turn when a real murder occurs right on their doorstep. The teaser opens with Elizabeth talking about a 1973 cold case with the group, setting the tone for their quirky but clever investigations. 'Oh my god! Isn't this room usually for jigsaws?' Joyce asks when she finds the group discussing the case. 'Not on a Thursday,' Elizabeth replied, marking the start of Joyce's induction into the unusual club. Joyce, initially hesitant, soon becomes a willing participant. 'There's been a murder, an actual murder!' she tells the group. 'Now we've got a real case to solve. Isn't it wonderful? Obviously, R.I.P. and all that…' The screenplay is written by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. The film is produced by Netflix and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, with Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus as producers. Executive producers of the whodunnit project include Osman himself, Jo Burn, Eleanor Columbus, Holly Bario, and Jeb Brody. The ensemble cast also features Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Jonathan Pryce, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Ingrid Oliver, Paul Freeman, Sarah Niles, and Richard E. Grant. Production on the film took place between June and September 2024. The film is based on the first of Osman's four-book series, which also includes The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and The Last Devil to Die.

Netflix's new mystery movie with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren gets first trailer — and it looks like charming chaos

Richard Osman has become a beloved figure in British pop culture. After years on TV, he's made a hugely successful leap into fiction with his hit 'Thursday Murder Club' book series, which follows a group of elderly friends in a retirement home who solve both cold and current murder cases. Now, the first book has been adapted into a star-studded Netflix movie, bringing these fan-favorite characters to the screen for the first time. Netflix just dropped the first trailer for 'The Thursday Murder Club,' and it already looks like a hilariously fun watch. I'll never say no to a good mystery flick, especially one starring Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. This movie's been on my radar ever since Netflix released some first-look images last month, earning it a spot on my must-watch summer list. Based on Osman's 2020 debut novel, the story follows four retirees in a quiet English village whose true-crime club turns serious when they find themselves investigating an actual murder. The upcoming Netflix movie, helmed by director Chris Columbus and backed by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, will debut on the platform on August 28, 2025. The trailer gives us our first look at Helen Mirren as Elizabeth, Pierce Brosnan as Ron and Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim, as they cross paths with Celia Imrie's character, Joyce, during their pursuit of a decades-old mystery from 1973. We also see Joyce getting a bit too enthusiastic when a real, modern-day murder suddenly shakes things up. The preview offers quick peeks at characters played by Naomi Ackie and Ingrid Oliver as well. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. It's easy to draw comparisons to other popular murder mysteries. 'Only Murders in the Building' immediately comes to mind, though this one doesn't have the younger-gen appeal. You can also spot some clear influences from Rian Johnson's 'Knives Out' movies in the mix, with a similar blend of mystery and playful comedy. I'm already on board. Along with the first trailer, we also have an official synopsis thanks to Netflix: 'Based on Richard Osman's international bestselling novel of the same name, The Thursday Murder Club follows four irrepressible retirees — Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie) — who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun. 'When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.' Columbus told Netflix: 'This is the finest cast I've worked with since Potter. They're just so incredibly well-prepared, and it's because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they've developed those sorts of muscles.' The full cast includes Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Ingrid Oliver, and Richard E. Grant. It's likely that some of these actors will show up as small (but incredibly fun) cameos. Osman has expanded 'The Thursday Murder Club' into a full book series, with four follow-up novels — the latest, The Impossible Fortune, is set to release this September. So if the Netflix adaptation is a hit, it could easily pave the way for a full-fledged movie franchise. When speaking with Netflix about the story, Columbus said: 'There's a wonderful mystery at its core, so mystery fans will be very happy. But thematically it's interesting that we've got four elderly people who are living in a retirement community and who are fascinated by death and murder. They are facing their own demise, yet at the same time they are obsessed with studying cold cases. I fell in love thematically with that. It's comedic, but it's also very emotional.' These words alone already have me intrigued. I love a good whodunit, and knowing it's based on a book people rave about makes me even more curious to see how it plays out on screen. Plus, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren? Say no more. Stream "The Thursday Murder Club" on Netflix starting August 28.

New ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth' Trailer Reveals the Worst of the Worst Dinosaurs

'Jurassic World: Rebirth' is headed back to its roots, and in the latest trailer for Universal's film, that seems to mean including some more horror elements once again. The first trailer introduced the team, led by Scarlett Johansson's Zora Bennett, with the promise that they will be taking on the 'worst' of the dinosaur species left behind on the island. The new footage, released Tuesday morning, reveals exactly how terrifying the worst ones are — beginning with a man getting trapped in a cell with a massive dino, and begging to be let out. You can watch the latest trailer below. According to the trailer, there are about two dozen species of dinosaurs to worry about this time around, and all of them are the result of experimentation by scientists. So, you know, not great. This trailer shows off some of the action — namely, chases — to come, with the ominous promise once again that 'survival is a long shot.' 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' takes places five years after the events of the last film, 'Jurassic World Dominion.' According to Universal's synopsis, 'the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.' 'The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.' In addition to Johansson, the film stars Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend and Jonathan Bailey. It is directed by Gareth Edwards, and produced by Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' hits theaters on July 2. The post New 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' Trailer Reveals the Worst of the Worst Dinosaurs appeared first on TheWrap.

‘Jurassic World: Rebirth' trailer: Scarlett Johansson faces off against a new hybrid dino monstrosity

The second trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth has been released, giving us a closer look at the seventh film in the long-running dinosaur franchise. Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, the film stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey in leading roles. Set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion, the story unfolds in a world where dinosaurs have been largely pushed into remote, equatorial zones due to climate incompatibility. However, the few surviving species may hold the secret to a medical breakthrough, driving a high-risk extraction mission led by Johansson's character. Johansson plays Zora Bennett, a covert operative tasked with retrieving DNA from three massive dinosaur species. She is joined by Mahershala Ali's Duncan Kincaid and Jonathan Bailey's Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist. The team also includes a pharmaceutical representative played by Martin Krebs, with supporting roles by Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein. The trailer reveals the group's mission takes a turn when they cross paths with a civilian family stranded after their boat is attacked by aquatic dinosaurs. The combined group ends up marooned on an island, where they uncover a long-buried secret with major consequences. Visually, the trailer hints at an evolution in the franchise's action set pieces, introducing not only land-based predators but new threats from the air and sea — including avian dinosaurs and aquatic creatures. But among the new threats teased in the Rebirth trailer, one stands out as the franchise's most nightmarish creation yet: the Distortus Rex, or D-Rex. Engineered at a previously unknown InGen site, this monstrous hybrid is unlike anything seen before. With six limbs, rows of jagged teeth, and a twisted, almost tortured form, the D-Rex is one of the franchise's most grotesque designs yet. 'It's kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor,' director Gareth Edwards told Empire. Jurassic World: Rebirth is produced by Amblin Entertainment and hits theaters on July 2.
