Jazz is back! Chisholm Jr. hits a solo shot in injury return to help Yankees win

Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a tiebreaking home run in his return from a month on the injured list, Carlos Rodon won his seventh straight decision and the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians 3-2 on Tuesday night for their 11th win in 14 games. Back from a strained right oblique that caused him to miss 28 games, Chisholm pulled a fastball into the first row of the right-center seats against Tanner Bibee (4-6) for a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning. Six pitches later, Anthony Volpe drove a sweeper into the left-field stands, giving the Yankees back-to-back homers for the fifth time. Rodón (8-3) allowed one run and five hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts and one walk. He extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings and retired 17 straight batters entering the seventh, when Jose Ramirez singled, stole second and came around when David Fry bounced a single past DJ LeMahieu at second base. Rodón stranded runners at the corners. Devin Williams, back as closer after Luke Weaver strained a hamstring, allowed Carlos Santana's one-out double and pinch-hitter Daniel Schneemann's two-out RBI single in the ninth, then retired Bo Naylor on a flyout for his sixth save in seven chances. LeMahieu's fifth-inning single drove in Chisholm, who had blooped a single for the Yankees' first hit. Chisholm moved to third base from second, where LeMahieu is starting, and made a fine throw from foul territory to retire Angel Martinez in the third. Bibee threw a season-high 107 pitches, allowing three runs and four hits in 6 1/3 innings. Fry, whose 10th-inning homer beat the Yankees in Game 3 of last year's American League Championship Series, went 1 for 3 as the designated hitter in his first start following reconstructive right elbow surgery in November. He struck out Sunday as a pinch hitter in his season debut. Check out the best moments between the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees. Reporting by The Associated Press. Yankees' Judge shares candid moments about fame and focus

Yankees' Judge shares candid moments about fame and focus originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It had been a few months since I'd last seen Aaron Judge, my last day on the Yankees beat, in the Yankees clubhouse at Yankee Stadium. It was about 1:30 in the morning after the Yankees had just lost the 2022 American League Championship Series to the Astros. Judge — then a free agent — was shaking hands and saying goodbye to a long line of people. Advertisement Fast-forward four months. Early one morning on the street, I spotted a tall figure at the edge of a crowd. His hoodie pulled low, and I didn't recognize him at first. Then I did a double take. The way he moved, the height—something clicked. When he turned my way, I realized it was Judge. He did a double take, too. Judge smiled and then looked around to see if his cover was blown. New York Yankees right fielder Aaron JudgeCary Edmondson-Imagn Images I understood he was trying to quietly support his wife at an event without drawing attention. I smiled back, nodded, and looked away. But the buzz around me was growing. 'Is that…?' 'He's in town, looks like…' 'IT'S AARON JUDGE!' Advertisement Within minutes, pictures of Judge were going viral on social media, tipping off fans around him. He left quietly to find another spot to wait. It was awkward and uncomfortable, maybe even a little scary. That's the reality for a guy like Judge. Speaking recently to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, Judge dove into it a little bit. He explained what his life is like on the road. 'I think if I was a little shorter, if you just give me 6-foot-1, 6-2,' Judge said, 'I could blend in a little bit. Throw on a Yankee cap and we can go. It's the height. The first thing they think when they see me, they think basketball player. And then they put two-and-two together.' Playing for the Yankees means people recognize him and cheer him on wherever he goes. Advertisement 'That's why I don't leave the hotel for the most part. I got a job to do on the road. I try not to explore too much. I can do that when I retire and check out these cities.' So now, Judge gets to go back home to New York City. The Yankees wrapped up their West Coast road trip Sunday night. He's back to the city where he can walk his dogs in peace and get out to the places where the people knew him before he became the face of the franchise. Yankees 'Aggressively' Targeting 2 Key Positions in Trade

That appears to be the New York Yankees' thinking, as according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Bronx Bombers are "aggressively" targeting two key positional upgrades. More news: Yankees Castoff Signs With AL East Rival Shortly After Release From New York "The Yankees are aggressively searching for a right-handed bat, preferably a third baseman, while also looking for another starter," Nightengale wrote in his latest article. HOUSTON, TX - OCTOBER 13: Manager Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees watches batting practice before game two of the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on October 13, 2019 in Houston, Texas. MoreStarting pitching has been an obvious need for the Yankees ever since Gerrit Cole underwent Tommy John surgery in March, ending his 2025 season before it began. The saving grace for the Yankees has been their offseason splurge, as Max Fried — who signed an eight-year, $218 million deal this winter — has arguably been the best pitcher in baseball through the first two months of the season. More news: Yankees GM Brian Cashman Reveals When Giancarlo Stanton Will Return From Injury No one has made more starts than Fried's 11, and he leads all of baseball with a minuscule 1.29 ERA. He's also an incredible 7-0 with a 0.93 WHIP and .191 batting average against. While Fried is getting paid to be an ace, Carlos Rodon has been the major surprise in New York's rotation, as he currently leads MLB with a .161 batting average against. He's 6-3 with a 2.88 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 65.2 innings. Unfortunately for New York, the rotation has struggled mightily behind their two aces. No other full-time starter has an ERA below 4.00. Luis Gil will be a much-needed addition to the rotation, but he's not set to return for another couple months. More news: Yankees $5.1 Million Rookie Outfielder Makes MLB History With Insane Home Run Feat As for third base, the Yankees have been one of the worst teams in MLB in terms of production from the hot corner. Entering Monday, Yankees third baseman have a combined OPS of .545, which ranks 29th in MLB. The Yankees have just two home runs from the third base position, as Oswald Peraza, Oswaldo Cabrera and Jorbit Vivas have all struggled. The most obvious right-handed third base trade candidate is Nolan Arenado, who the St. Louis Cardinals have tried to ship off since the beginning of the offseason. Even though the Cardinals are a surprising 30-23, they would likely be more than willing to move off of Arenado, who has another three years and $74 million left on his deal.
