Red Sox-Tigers Trade Idea Centered Around $123M All-Star Should Terrify Yankees
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Boston Red Sox are in fourth place in the American League East and could end up being sellers by the time the July 31 trade deadline approaches. They reportedly have received some trade interest for All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran. Duran was an All-Star last year, but may be the odd man out in Boston. The team has Ceddanne Rafaela signed to a long-term extension and Wilyer Abreu under team control until 2030. Sooner or later, they are going to have to make a move to get Roman Anthony in the big leagues. Duran has the most trade value and is older than his fellow outfielders. If Duran is available, many teams, not just contenders, could be picking up the phones to try and get him. However, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed this trade that would send him to the Detroit Tigers. Red Sox receive: RHP Jackson Jobe and SS Bryce Rainer (Tigers No. 3 prospect) Tigers receive: OF Jarren Duran "They ought to be in World Series or bust mode after a 40-22 start to the year, and adding Duran would further super-charge an offense that has been a pleasant surprise," wrote Rymer. "It needs Duran's speed, as the Tigers' 21 stolen bases are the fewest in MLB. Because the Tigers are set with Riley Greene in left field, Duran could take over in center and put a stop to a revolving door that has seen seven players start at the position. This would free Javier Báez up to be a proper super-utility man." CLEVELAND, OHIO - APRIL 27: First base coach José David Flores #58 of the Boston Red Sox holds back Jarren Duran #16 as Duran yells at a fan during the seventh inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on April 27, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio. MoreThe Tigers went on an improbable run to the postseason last year, going 39-26 in the second half and reaching Game 5 of the American League Division Series. They have picked up right where they left off and have the best record in baseball. They are ahead of the New York Yankees in the American League standings, but adding Duran could really threaten the Yankees' reign as American League champions. Duran is hitting .273/.318/424 with four home runs and a league-leading six triples. He would add some serious speed to their team on the basepaths and deepen their lineup. If the Yankees watched the Tigers trade for Duran, it could put them in a tough spot for years to come. Duran is under club control through 2028 and is projected to earn a six-year, $123 million deal on the open market. The Red Sox are unlikely to pay him after paying Rafaela and with Anthony ready to become a pillar of the team. More MLB: MLB Insider Tags Mariners As Landing Spot For AL East Infielder

More Tigers Bad News as Outfield 'Upgrade' Back on IL Just 4 Days After Return
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Detroit Tigers have been the feel-good story of the MLB season, rising from a sub-.500 team less that a year ago, to a playoff team that went to Game 5 of the American League Division Series, then to the best record in the AL after Memorial Day this season. But even as the Tigers are making their fans feel good, a long list of their players have been feeling bad. Detroit has been beset with injuries since spring training, and the team is still waiting on the return of at least eight players — including $15 million offseason free agent pitching acquisition Alex Cobb. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - SEPTEMBER 27: Matt Vierling #8 of the Detroit Tigers looks on against the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park on September 27, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan. DETROIT, MICHIGAN - SEPTEMBER 27: Matt Vierling #8 of the Detroit Tigers looks on against the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park on September 27, 2024 in Detroit, outfield has been hit especially hard by the injury buzzsaw. Until last Friday, Parker Meadows, Wenceel Pérez and Matt Vierling all had yet to play a single game, after combining for 168 appearances in center field alone last season. The Tigers got what manager A.J. Hinch called a "big upgrade" to the outfield on Friday, however, when Vierling — who has been dealing with a strained rotator cuff muscle — was finally activated from the injured list. More MLB: MLB's Best Team Gets 'Big Upgrade'; Tigers Outfielder Activated For Season Debut The bad news for Detroit is, on Tuesday Vierling went right back on the IL. The reason, according to a report by The Detroit News, was that after Monday's game at home against the San Francisco Giants, the 28-year-old, five-year veteran reported a recurrence of the soreness in his right shoulder. "There wasn't a singular event or episode or anything. He came in after the game and reported some shoulder soreness so we sent him for tests, had him see some doctors," Hinch said, as quoted by The Detroit News. "We need to get further testing but we can't mess with this, especially off the recent shoulder issue he had." Vierling, who recorded two hits in the 11 at-bats since his return, was placed on the 10-day IL. But there was no word from the Tigers on how long he was expected to be shelved this time. The day was not without good news for the Tigers, however. Pérez — who was called "a fun, impactful player" by Hinch — was activated after appearing in just six rehab games in the minor leagues. The 24-year-old native of the Dominican Republic brings a high degree of versatility to the Tigers' lineup. He is a switch hitter, and according to Hinch, he will see time at all three outfield positions. More MLB: Tigers Get Good News on Veteran Bullpen Arm, But Option Rookie With 1.42 ERA
