Patrick Mahomes Left Speechless by $275 Million Announcement
Patrick Mahomes Left Speechless by $275 Million Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is best known for being one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, and is in hot pursuit of adding to his collection of three Super Bowl titles. Advertisement While football is his main focus, Mahomes has also been involved in a handful of business ventures off the field. Whether it is donating $5 million to his alma mater Texas Tech, for the program's South End Zone project, or buying a stake in multiple professional sports teams, Mahomes has been quite active when it comes to his off-field ventures. On Tuesday, one of the investments that he and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, made in the National Women's Soccer League's Kansas City Current, saw a major development. As revealed by Forbes, the club is now valued at $275 million, the second-highest valuation throughout the NWSL. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Miron-Imagn Images The Mahomes couple first got involved with the club, which is currently atop the NWSL table with a record of 8-0-2, back in 2023, according to The Athletic. Advertisement The move made him the first active NFL player to have equity in an NWSL club, with his ownership group also featuring two-time Super Bowl-winning defensive lineman Chris Long. Following the revelation of the news, Mahomes took to Instagram to spread the word of the club's tremendous accomplishment. Patrick Mahomes reacts to Forbes' valuation of the Kansas City In addition to having the second-highest valuation in the league, the Current also generated the highest revenue in the NSWL, according to Forbes. With the Chiefs frequently in contention, the Royals in the mix in the American League Wild Card race and the Current leading the way in the NWSL, it seems like the perfect time to be a Kansas City Fan to say the least. Ex-Royals All-Star blasts Jac Caglianone roster move criticism
The post Ex-Royals All-Star blasts Jac Caglianone roster move criticism appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Kansas City Royals called up top prospect Jac Caglianone this week, and former Royals All-Star Whit Merrifield doesn't want to hear any complaints about the timing. Advertisement After former Miami Marlins president (and former first boot on Survivor) David Samson ripped the Royals for calling Caglianone up just two weeks before the expected 'super two' cutoff, Merrifield took to X to share his thoughts. 'This is the kind of thinking is bad for the sport,' Merrifield wrote. 'The AL Central is tight with 4 teams. Could be decided by a game or 2. If you think the kid can help you win, why on earth would you wait another 14-15 games???' Samson's issue with the Royals is all about timing. If they had waited to call up Caglianone, they would not have risked Caglianone hitting arbitration after two seasons, rather than three. That could happen if a player with at least two, but less than three, years of service time is among the top 22 percent of such players in total service among his class. In an appearance on CBS Sports, Samson called the Royals' decision 'the single-most irresponsible move I've seen in quite a long a time.' 'I have no idea how a team that's not in the top 10 of payroll is not paying attention to dates,' he said. 'And the Royals forcing the issue? That's a bunch of horse hockey. You take the extra two weeks because it gives you an extra year. And it compounds itself in arbitration. This is a $10 million decision they made. He better be Vladimir Guerrero Sr. and he better start now.' Royals prospect Jac Caglianone set for Major League debut Denny Medley-Imagn Images Less than one year after the Royals took Caglianone sixth overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, he is set to make his MLB debut on Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. Advertisement When Caglianone takes the field on Tuesday, he will be expected to give the Royals a much-needed jolt to their offense. As Merrifield said, the AL Central is tight and every game carries some weight. Kansas City is 1.5 games out of the American League Wild Card and has done its damage despite ranking 26th in baseball in team OPS. Meanwhile Caglianone is a prospect with elite power and improving plate discipline that should make him a valuable bat to the Royals' order. He will DH and bat sixth in his MLB debut.

Jordan Montgomery set to have second elbow surgery, likely ending ugly Arizona tenure
Less than two years ago, Jordan Montgomery was helping blaze the Texas Rangers' path to the World Series. Then a trustworthy left-hander, Montgomery had a 2.90 ERA over 31 innings in a stellar postseason run. 'Great job by our front office getting him here,' Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after Montgomery vanquished the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card series. Advertisement Now, Montgomery is set to have the second Tommy John procedure of his career, adding another layer of turmoil to what has been a disastrous tenure with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team the Rangers beat in the 2023 World Series. Not long ago the toast of one front office, Montgomery is now the bane of another. Not long ago a champion, Montgomery has become a living embodiment of how quickly fortunes change in Major League Baseball. Jordan Montgomery says he will be having Tommy John surgery next week. — Nick Piecoro (@nickpiecoro) March 25, 2025 The saga started after that World Series run. Successful as Montgomery was after the Rangers acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline, teams across the league were not sold on his worthiness of a nine-figure contract. As a sinker-slider type who largely pitches to contact, Montgomery then averaged 8.4 K/9 in his career. He was also entering his age-31 season and several years removed from a 2018 Tommy John procedure. Montgomery lingered on the free-agent market for an eon. He became part of the infamous 'Boras 4' and was the last marquee Boras client to sign that winter. The Diamondbacks acquired him on a one-year deal worth $25 million that also included a vesting option for 2025. Shortly after signing the deal, Montgomery fired Boras and hired the Wasserman agency to represent him. The marriage with the Diamondbacks was rocky from the start. After missing spring training, Montgomery did not begin the season until April 19. His first outing went well, holding the San Francisco Giants to only one run over six innings. But soon the wheels were coming off. Montgomery posted a 7.18 ERA in June and never turned the tide back in his favor. By August he was taking aim at Boras, saying the agent 'butchered it' as Montgomery revisited his negotiations with the Red Sox in an interview with the Boston Herald. The Diamondbacks moved the struggling Montgomery to the bullpen on Aug. 27. He finished the season with a 6.23 ERA. Advertisement By October, after the Diamondbacks won 89 games but missed the postseason, team owner Ken Kendrick went on 98.7 FM's 'The Burns & Gambo Show' and took accountability for the failed signing. 'Looking back, in hindsight, a horrible decision, to have invested that money in a guy that performed as poorly as he did,' Kendrick said. 'It was our biggest mistake this season from a talent standpoint. And I'm the perpetrator of that.' Of course, the saga did not fade after the 2024 season. Montgomery had started 23 games. He needed only 10 starts to meet his vesting option and 18 starts to boost the value of that option to $22.5 million. Montgomery exercised the option this offseason and reported to camp having dropped 25 pounds. Just as he turned optimistic, Montgomery injured his left index finger in his final bullpen before spring training. He made only two appearances in games this spring, surrendering five earned runs in three innings. He was slated to begin the year in the bullpen. After struggling to recover following his throwing sessions, Montgomery reported elbow soreness. An MRI revealed the worst, and Montgomery told reporters the news Tuesday. Now Montgomery's time with the Diamondbacks has likely reached its end. 'Kind of a fork in the road is going to be chosen, and this is just what the Lord chose,' Montgomery told reporters in Arizona. 'I'm going to rehab and keep working hard.' (Photo by)
