American Red Cross prepares as severe weather looms over North Texas
The Brief North Texas is bracing for severe overnight storms bringing potential hail, heavy rain, and strong winds after a hot and humid Sunday. Residents prepared for the heat and initial showers, with some securing outdoor items ahead of the stronger storms. The American Red Cross has volunteers and supplies ready to respond and open shelters if needed after the storms. DALLAS - This afternoon, it was all about the heat and humidity as people tried to enjoy the day and stay cool before the severe weather moved through. In anticipation of the storm, restaurant patios took down large umbrellas and people were prepared as a brief rain shower moved through the plano area. Local perspective The splash pad at Klyde Warren Park in Downtown Dallas was packed with families trying to make the most of a very hot and humid Sunday. Paulo Dorsey is letting his two sons have some fun while he keeps his eyes on the skies. "It's too hot to be playing with a crowd of kids, we got to get where there's water, allow you to cool off. The parents can go in there, I'm all soaking wet, just to cool off," said Dorsey. "When you start seeing the clouds, it's time to go." The Duncanville dad is bracing himself for the severe storms expected to move through north Texas overnight. The storms have the potential to bring hail, heavy rain, and strong straight-line winds. "We live in an apartment, so we are blessed by that. That helps us to be able to not really deal with the outside of the home. If something happens, the apartment deals with it," said Dorsey. What they're saying If something does happen, the American Red Cross is ready to respond. Linda Braddy is the North Texas regional CEO for the American Red Cross and says any time there's severe weather in the forecast, the Red Cross restocks essential items for storm recovery. "So we've identified volunteers who are available today to respond to whatever needs arise as these storms pass through our region, especially our shelter heroes and drivers who can drive our disaster response vehicles," said Braddy. "As always, we've made sure that our vehicles are fueled up and ready to roll. We've made sure that our trailers are fully stocked with shelter supplies in case we have to open shelters, and our disaster volunteers are trained to open shelters to provide food and other assistance to residents that may be impacted by the storms..." Braddy says the Red Cross stays in close contact with the local emergency management offices to coordinate response efforts. She hopes people will remain prepared for the much stronger storms overnight. "So secure objects outside might blow around, right that you can't bring inside, because that can cause damage to your home. And so, you know, above all, go to a safe place, right? Know, ahead of time, where it's safe to stay, even if you have to leave your home to find that place." 2 escape burning travel trailer in Casco Township
CASCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were able to escape a burning travel trailer in Casco Township early Sunday morning, fire crews say. Around 4:45 a.m., crews with the South Haven Area Emergency Services were sent to 68th Street near 103rd Avenue after a travel trailer caught fire. Responding fire crews found the trailer fully engulfed in flames. Crews quickly worked to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other structures, SHAES said. Grand Forks Fire Department responds to multi-family residence fire
Jun. 8—GRAND FORKS — Fire crews found heavy smoke upon arriving on a fire call Saturday in Grand Forks. The incident occurred at 1:43 a.m. on June 7 at 821 Fourth Ave. S. after fire alarms sounded at a multi-family residence. According to a release from the Grand Forks Fire Department, the fire was extinguished by the initial arriving crews. There was significant damage to the unit of origin and moderate smoke and heat damage in the second-floor hallway. The GFFD responded with five engines, one truck, a command vehicle and 18 personnel. Three occupants of the building were evaluated by Altru Hospital staff, with one being treated and released on scene. The GFFD was assisted by Altru Ambulance, the Grand Forks Police Department, Grand Forks Housing Authority and the American Red Cross.

Disaster emergency declared in Allegheny County after heavy rains, flash flooding
Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato declared a countywide disaster emergency on Saturday, just hours after heavy rains brought flash flooding throughout the Pittsburgh region. Amid the Friday rush hour, heavy rains produced flooding in multiple communities in Allegheny County, including Monroeville and Rankin. Parts of Westmoreland County, including Greensburg and Jeannette, were also impacted by the storms. Allegheny County Emergency Services were activated Friday afternoon and evening, coordinating water rescues and assessing damage as floodwaters receded. Five swiftwater teams from Glassport, Elizabeth, Jefferson, and Blawnox were deployed to White Oak, McKeesport, and North Versailles. Officials conducted three rescues, including two in North Versailles and one from a vehicle on Route 48 in White Oak. Multiple reports of landslides are under investigation. County officials continue to work with the American Red Cross and the County Department of Public Works to support impacted communities. First Alert Weather Days ahead With more heavy rain and storms expected Sunday and Monday, First Alert Weather Days have been issued for Sunday and Monday. A flood watch begins at 7 a.m. Sunday and goes until 10 p.m. Storms are possible through the afternoon and evening, with the biggest threats being flooding and damaging winds. Monday brings another chance for strong-to-severe storms, with most of the Pittsburgh area under a marginal risk for severe weather (1 out of 5). Residents are urged to clear storm drains, downspouts, and ensure creeks and streams are free of obstructions to help reduce the risk of further flooding.
