4K sqm rly land reclaimed in anti-encroachment drive

1 2 Prayagraj: The Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway (NCR) on Wednesday launched an extensive anti-encroachment drive and successfully reclaimed over 4,000 sqm of railway land from illegal occupation. The recovered land, situated between Prayagraj and Naini, is estimated to be worth Rs 8 crore. The operation was jointly carried out by the engineering department of the Prayagraj Division, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the local police. PRO of Prayagraj Division, Amit Kumar Singh said: "Prior notices were issued to encroachers, instructing them to vacate the railway land. However, in cases where these directives were ignored, strict action was taken, and the encroached land was forcefully vacated with the help of law enforcement agencies." The drive is part of a broader strategy to clear railway land for the construction of safety walls and other infrastructure upgrades aimed at supporting high-speed rail operations. Under the ambitious "Mission Raftaar" initiative, Indian Railways is working to facilitate trains running at 160 kmph between Delhi and Howrah. This involves upgrading tracks, modernising signaling systems, eliminating level crossings and constructing boundary walls to enhance operational safety. The railway administration has emphasised that such drives will continue in a phased and intensified manner.

J&K CM after explosions heard across Srinagar Tour packages for popular destinations in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir are also being cancelled. In the last two days alone, over 48 travellers from Prayagraj have withdrawn their bookings for domestic holidays as well as international destinations like Thailand, Maldives and has resulted in significant losses for travel agents, particularly those catering to summer vacation plans. Passengers are expressing unease, with many opting to cancel their trips. "I had to go on a pilgrimage to Maa Vaishno Devi after May 20, but I cancelled the ticket in view of the current situation," said Pratibha Singh of Singh from Civil Lines echoed similar concerns, stating he had planned a family trip to Manali via Chandigarh but decided it was not safe to proceed. Tour operators confirm the trend, with Sandeep Mishra of Travels Safe saying many travellers initially diverted from Kashmir to other hill destinations. As the situation worsened, those bookings are being scrapped too."Earlier Kashmir packages were cancelled. Now it's Himachal, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and even international packages. Financially, we are hit hard," Mishra said, highlighting the significant impact on the travel trend of cancelling train tickets is particularly pronounced on trains heading towards Delhi and border states like Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Rajasthan. Although some trains still have available reservations, the number of ticket cancellations significantly outweighs new bookings.
