If You Want Bumrah To Play All Five Tests...: BGT Winning Captain Shares Key Advice For Indian Captains On Managing Ace Pacer
India's veteran batter and former Test captain Ajinkya Rahane has praised pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the remarkable clarity and professionalism he displayed during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 series against England. In a move that highlighted both foresight and team-first mentality, Bumrah informed the BCCI management, captain Shubman Gill, and head coach Gautam Gambhir before the series began that he would participate in only three of the five Tests. Staying true to his plan, Bumrah featured in the first, third, and fourth Tests against Ben Stokes' England. His presence made a significant impact he picked up two five-wicket hauls at Headingley and Lord's, ending the series with 14 wickets. Bumrah was released from the squad on Day 2 of the final Test at the Oval, which India won in thrilling fashion by six runs. Rahane, who led India to a memorable 2-1 Test series win in Australia in 2020-21, spoke highly of Bumrah's decision-making and communication. On his YouTube channel, Rahane said: 'What I liked about the Bumrah situation was that he was pretty clear; he knew what he wanted to do before the series. He said, 'I'll play the first one, I won't play the second one, and then I'll play the third'. Great clarity for a captain. It shows that he has the courage to tell the captain and management to be really clear.' He continued: 'It also shows that he is keeping the team ahead of himself. Sometimes it is not easy to do so when you are playing for India. As a player, when you are representing India, it's not easy. Sometimes players convey the same message to the team, and then they get dropped.' Rahane didn't stop there he also had some valuable advice for head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. He suggested a smarter approach to managing Bumrah's workload if the team hopes to utilize him across all five Test matches in future series. 'If you want Bumrah to play all five Tests, then use him in smaller spells like 3 overs or 4 overs,' Rahane advised. He further emphasized that Bumrah's unique bowling action puts additional stress on his body, making workload management essential. 'It just shows that he wanted the team to be well prepared even when he wasn't playing. Because of his unique action, there is a lot of load on his body.' Rahane also touched on Bumrah's psychological impact on opposition teams, particularly England's aggressive "Bazball" approach. 'I think England were wary of Bumrah when he was playing; 'Bazball' didn't come out to the full extent. When Bumrah wasn't there, they played a little freely. It is important to use him properly; you have to give him the luxury to get the best out of him,' he added. The gripping five-Test series between India and England concluded in a 2-2 draw. India secured victories in the second and fifth Tests, while England emerged victorious in the first and third. The fourth Test ended in a draw, highlighting just how evenly matched the series was. As India continues to navigate its transition phase under a new leadership group, Rahane's insights could prove valuable in ensuring Bumrah remains a consistent and potent force in Test cricket. Ahead of the five-Test series, Bumrah had already informed the BCCI management, captain Shubman Gill, and head coach Gautam Gambhir that he would participate in only three matches. He featured in the first, third, and fourth Tests against Ben Stokes' England side.

LSG Slammed For ‘Embarrassing' Snub Of KL Rahul Despite England Heroics In Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
KL Rahul's remarkable performances in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 should have been celebrated as one of Indian cricket's finest overseas batting displays in recent years. Instead, his former IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been caught in the middle of an online storm after completely ignoring the opener in a social media tribute post — a move fans and former players have branded as 'absolutely disgusting' and 'embarrassing.' — Dodda Ganesh | @doddaganesha) August 8, 2025 Also Read: Raksha Bandhan 2025: From Sara Tendulkar & Arjun Tendulkar To Rishabh Pant & Sakshi Pant - 10 Heartwarming Cricketer-Sister Relationships Fans Adore Rahul's Masterclass in English Conditions Against the swinging Duke's ball in challenging English conditions, KL Rahul showed extraordinary poise and technique. Opening the innings for India, he amassed 532 runs at an average of 53.20, the highest for any opener in the series and the third-highest overall — only behind Shubman Gill and Joe Root. From gritty half-centuries that blunted the new ball to century stands that set up India's counterattacks, Rahul's role was pivotal in helping the visitors secure a 2-2 series draw, a rare and prestigious achievement on English soil. His performances weren't just about numbers — they were about grit, temperament, and an unwavering ability to deliver when it mattered most. Many analysts called him the 'technical spine' of the Indian batting lineup in the series. LSG's Social Media Post Sparks Backlash Just when the cricketing fraternity was lauding Rahul's heroics, LSG released a celebratory collage on social media showcasing India's standout moments from the tour. The post was loaded with pictures of Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and pacers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep — the latter two also being current LSG players. Conspicuously missing? KL Rahul. Former India pacer Dodda Ganesh didn't mince words, posting on X (formerly Twitter): 'This is getting embarrassing. Couldn't get a picture of an opener who played the new ball and scored 500+ runs.' Fans echoed his sentiment, accusing LSG of intentionally excluding Rahul despite his series-defining performances. Many went as far as calling it a 'petty' and 'absolutely disgusting' act from the franchise. The Fallout: From LSG Captain to Delhi Capitals Star To understand the depth of the controversy, one must revisit Rahul's history with LSG. Appointed as their first-ever captain in 2022, he led them to playoff finishes in both 2022 and 2023. However, his tenure wasn't without turbulence. During the 2024 IPL season, a public on-field altercation with owner Sanjiv Goenka made headlines, sparking speculation of a fractured relationship. By the time the IPL 2025 auction came around, Rahul had been released, paving the way for his ₹14 crore move to Delhi Capitals, while LSG made a blockbuster signing of Rishabh Pant for a record ₹27 crore and handed him the captaincy. Mixed Fortunes Since the Split Since Rahul's departure, neither side has achieved the dream script. LSG finished seventh for the second consecutive season, with Pant struggling for form until the final group game. Rahul's Delhi Capitals started the season brightly but faded late, finishing fifth and missing the playoffs. Still, Rahul's personal form — particularly in the international arena — has soared, reinforcing his value as one of India's most dependable batters in overseas Tests.

Moeen Ali Praises 33-Year-Old Indian Batter, Says 'He's One Of The Best In The World'
The 33-year-old right-handed batter played all five Tests in the recently concluded series against England and, with the help of two centuries and two fifties, scored 532 runs. Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has reserved big praise for Indian Test opener KL Rahul by saying that the 33-year-old right-handed batter from Karnataka is one of the best players in the world. Rahul played all five matches for India in the recently concluded five-match series against England and, with the help of two centuries and two half-centuries, scored a total of 532 runs as opening batter. While speaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Moeen said that fans don't realise how good Rahul is as an opening batter, and he also praised him for his brilliant show with the bat in the away series. 'I think people don't realise how good KL (Rahul) in particular is at opening the batting. He was brilliant last series as well in England, and he's brilliant again this series. I actually think Shubman (Gill) scored the most runs and was outstanding, brilliant technique. But I thought KL's role within that side was probably the best I have seen him play over the… He's such a good player. I genuinely believe that he's one of the best players in the world, and I have said that for a while. Like, sometimes I just feel like he doesn't take the handbrake off, like, just free up a bit more, but generally I would say he's one of the best players in the world," he said. In the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Rahul scored a century in the second innings of the first Test played at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24, and he also crossed the triple-figure mark in the first innings of the Lord's Test. However, his centuries went in vain on both occasions as India suffered a heartbreaking defeat. The century in the Lord's Test, however, helped Rahul enter his name in the history books. He became the first Indian opener and overall second batter after Dilip Vengsarkar to score multiple Test centuries at Lord's. During his playing days for India in the late 1970s and 1980s, Vengsarkar scored three Test centuries at the Home of Cricket. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Calm, Composed, And Organised': Sachin Tendulkar Reflects On Shubman Gill's Record-Breaking Run In Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Shubman Gill's phenomenal run during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 has left many cricketing legends in awe, and none more so than Sachin Tendulkar, the man after whom the trophy is partly named. Gill's tally of 754 runs across the five-match series not only etched his name in history books but also drew admiration for the way he approached each innings with maturity and poise. In a detailed review of the series, Tendulkar hailed the young Indian captain as 'calm, composed, and organised,' highlighting how his mindset and technique stood out in challenging English conditions. Gill's Mindset: The Key to Consistency According to Tendulkar, one of Gill's biggest strengths throughout the series was his mental clarity. 'If you are not clear in your head, your body doesn't respond the way it should,' he said. This mental sharpness allowed Gill to display impeccable judgment outside the off-stump, resisting the temptation to play loosely against swinging deliveries. He further noted that Gill respected good balls, often letting them go or defending with a still head and a steady bat. In an age where attacking flair is often celebrated, Tendulkar appreciated Gill's ability to know when to attack and when to defend, something that defines elite-level Test batting. Technique Meets Temperament Tendulkar was especially impressed with Gill's front-foot defence and shot selection, which remained tight and disciplined throughout the series. His technique was tailor-made for the seaming English wickets, with flawless footwork and a steady base. "His balance at the crease was exceptional," Tendulkar said. "He knew exactly what he wanted to do and didn't get rattled by the moving ball or the conditions." Gill's masterclass wasn't just about scoring runs; it was about the way he scored them. He accumulated big runs with control, patience, and a plan, rarely letting the opposition dictate terms. Leadership Under Pressure This was also Shubman Gill's first major Test series as captain. Despite the pressure, he appeared composed, a quality Tendulkar pointed out with admiration. 'Gill looked calm and composed even when the match situation got tense. That's a huge plus for any leader,' said Tendulkar. He added that while some tactical areas could improve, such as being a bit more conservative rather than always trying to counter England's 'Bazball' aggression, the young skipper showed a lot of maturity. Praise for Team Spirit, Especially Siraj Tendulkar didn't restrict his praise to Gill alone. He also lauded Mohammed Siraj, who picked up 23 wickets in the series, calling his efforts 'unbelievable.' The Master Blaster was impressed by Siraj's attitude and hunger to perform across conditions. From One Legend to the Next Generation Coming from India's greatest-ever batter, Tendulkar's words serve as a glowing endorsement for Gill's future. His consistency with the bat, sharp cricketing mind, and calm demeanor under pressure indicate that India may have found their next long-term Test captain. For now, Shubman Gill has not only led India to a series-levelling triumph but also earned the respect of the man whose name is etched on the trophy. And for Indian fans, that might be the biggest sign yet that a new legacy is quietly taking shape.

Ganguly Says Bowlers 'Are Ready' But 'Want Kuldeep To Be Included Somehow'
Last Updated: Sourav Ganguly believes India's bowling is strong, emphasised Jasprit Bumrah's importance but advocated for spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes that India's bowling attack is ready with or without Jasprit Bumrah. and with more playtime, they will become even more prepared. He emphasised Bumrah's importance, stating that his presence significantly enhances the bowling attack. Ganguly also thinks spinner Kuldeep Yadav should be included in India's setup. Since his debut against Australia in Dharamsala in 2017, Kuldeep has played 13 Tests and taken 56 wickets. His last Test appearance was against New Zealand in India. However, he missed out on a spot in Rohit Sharma-led India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Kuldeep was part of India's squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, a five-Test match series, but did not get a chance to play in any match. Ganguly told Sports Tak that all the players are prepared, and more game time will help them further. He wants Bumrah to be fit, as his participation strengthens the attack. He also advocates for including Kuldeep in the team, noting the importance of having a good spinner. 'All of them are ready. And the more chances we get, the more ready we will be. I want Bumrah to be fit. Because if Bumrah plays, the attack becomes even better. Jasprit Bumrah is not easy on this wicket. We will have to look at the spinners. I want Kuldeep to be included in the team somehow," Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by Sports Tak. Ganguly added that if Rishabh Pant is injured, Dhruv Jurel should keep wickets. He believes that if Pant bats at number five, with Jadeja at six and Washington at seven, Kuldeep will find a place in the team. He stressed the necessity of having a good spinner in the fourth and fifth positions for consistent wins against strong teams over a long period. 'I think if Rishabh Pant was injured, Jurel would have to play. If Rishabh Pant comes in 5th, and Jadeja comes in 6th, and Washington comes in 7th, then Kuldeep will have a place in this team. Because with good teams, over a long period, to win consistently, it is very important to be a good spinner in the 4th and 5th" added Ganguly. India recently played a five-Test match series against England, which ended in a 2-2 draw after Shubman Gill-led India defeated England by six runs in the last Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
