Forza Inter, hope they win: Onana on Champions League final
Andre Onana of Manchester United (Photo by) MUMBAI: From being booed off the pitch after a 1-0 friendly defeat to a Southeast Asian XI in Malaysia, Harry Maguire, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot arrived to a much warmer embrace by Manchester United supporters in the city on Thursday. After a forgettable season which culminated in last week's defeat in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils trio looked a lot more relaxed engaging with young footballers at Cooperage Stadium at the launch of the fifth edition of United We Play, an Apollo Tyres initiative. 'It's nice and refreshing to come over here,' Maguire told TOI. 'It's been amazing to see the different culture and to meet a lot of people and to spend the afternoon playing with children and just seeing how happy they are and putting smiles on their faces. ' Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! For Dalot, coming to India was a box he had always been wanting to tick. 'It was on my checklists to come to India, so I'm happy that I've been able to come here, also with the club,' said the Portuguese full back, aware of his country's old link with India. 'Historically, Portugal have good connections with India. I would love to go to Goa one day. Who's that IPL player? "Since I moved to Man United, I am aware the amount of supporters we have here is growing. So for me, it was one of the reasons why I volunteered to come here, because I knew that as soon as I leave this place, (visiting India) will be something that I would be very happy to have done." Like Maguire and Dalot, Onana also wore a broad smile as he took part in a few drills with the youngsters on Thursday, a pleasant change, no doubt, for the Cameroon international who has often drawn the ire of United fans for his performances in goal since his $56m move to Old Trafford from Inter Milan two summers ago. Asked if the pressure of being David de Gea's successor had been weighing on him, the 29-year-old dismissed the notion. 'Pressure? I don't feel pressure. First of all, thank you for putting my name next to a legend who has done a lot of things for the club, amazing things. It's not pressure, it's an extra motivation," Onana said. 'I don't want to be a one-season wonder': Punjab Kings' Shashank Singh Still close to many of his former teammates at Inter, Onana didn't shy away from revealing he would be cheering on his old team in Saturday's Uefa Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Munich. 'I hope they win,' he said of Simone Inzaghi's side. 'Obviously they play against a very good team. Of course I'm in touch with them, they are my guys. For me it's good always to talk with them. I wish them all the best, and hopefully Inter win. Forza Inter!"

‘Really hard to face fans': Amorim admits fatigue after Man United loses in Malaysia, eyes redemption in HK
HONG KONG, May 30 — Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim said his team cannot hide after they were booed off in their defeat in Malaysia ahead of their friendly with Hong Kong today. Three days after they concluded their worst Premier League season with a 15th-placed finish, Amorim's team kicked off their Asian tour with a 1-0 loss to Asean All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur, with many among the 72,000 fans voicing their displeasure. 'It's hard to face the fans around the world (after such a poor season),' Amorim told a press conference on Thursday. '(But) it is clear, we cannot hide. 'If one thing is really important in this club, we need to face our fans in this moment, and give something to our fans around the globe. We want to do that, but sometimes it's really hard. 'We were not really focused in the last game (on Wednesday), everyone can feel it. In that moment I can understand the fans and the players.' Harry Maguire, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot will not feature in Friday's match as they travelled to India instead for a club sponsor event. Amorim also ruled Luke Shaw out. Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee did not play in Malaysia, but the Portuguese coach gave them a clean bill of health at Hong Kong Stadium for their final match of the tour. 'Of course the team is tired because we flew to Malaysia and with the jet lag we had a game in difficult conditions,' Amorim said. 'But we are ready to play again and are really happy to be here.' Hong Kong's coach Ashley Westwood, a former United academy player, suggested that Amorim's team would have preferred post-season rest over extra games and travel. 'If truth be told, no players want to do (a post-season tour), you want to recover,' Westwood told reporters. 'Most Manchester United players are reporting for international duty on June 2. They probably need this like a hole in the head.' — Reuters

Ruben Amorim says Manchester United want to ‘turn the page' after poor season
Ruben Amorim insists he and his Manchester United players are desperate to 'turn the page' on a disappointing campaign as they head into the second match of a post-season Asian tour in Hong Kong on Friday. United were booed off in defeat to an ASEAN All-Stars team in Malaysia on Wednesday, a week on from losing the Europa League final to Tottenham and missing out on a Champions League spot as a result. The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League, marking their worst season in 51 years. The club will earn £8million from this trip to the Far East and while Amorim acknowledges the importance of tours such as this for him and the players to connect with United's worldwide fanbase, there is clearly a big part of him that just wants this season to be over. 'We want to give something to the fans, but it's hard in this moment – we just want to turn the page and improve next season,' he said at a press conference on Thursday. 'We cannot hide that it is really tough in this moment for us not to close the season, but if there is one thing that is really important in this club it is that we need to face our fans in this moment, and we need to give something to our fans around the world.' Amorim is again expected to heavily rotate his squad for the match against Hong Kong. Three senior players – Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot and Andre Onana – have flown on to a fan engagement event in India so are unavailable, while Luke Shaw is injured. 'I will try to divide because I don't want all the young kids all together,' Amorim said. 'I will try to mix these things. We want to be competitive. If they are fit, they will play, and we will have the maximum respect for everybody here and for our fans.'
