Strong Group clinches back-to-back Jones Cup titles with rout of Bahrain ahead of final game vs UAE
Strong Group-Philippines dominated the second half to turn a close contest into a 92-68 rout of Bahrain in their virtual title clash at the 2025 William Jones Cup on Saturday in Taiwan. Andre Roberson led the way with a double-double outing of 25 points and 14 rebounds laced with three assists, two steals, and one block while Tajuan Agee posted 19 markers, eight boards, two dimes, one steal, and block as they soared to a 7-0 card. With that win-loss record, the Philippine representative is already assured of finishing at the top spot as Bahrain fell to a 6-2 slate. The campaign, however, isn't done yet for Strong Group as it will still take on the winless UAE on Sunday in bid to complete a title sweep. Against Bahrain, Strong Group showed no signs of slowing down as they turned a slim 54-43 halftime lead to a 60-49 cushion early in the third before Bahrain slowly found their groove and cut the deficit to six, 64-58. But Javi Gomez de Liaño, who was scoreless through the first two quarters, caught fire and buried nine of his overall points as part of an 11-6 run that stretched Strong Group's lead to 11 again, 75-64. Roberson delivered the finishing blow in the fourth quarter, cleaning up Kiefer Ravena's missed three before throwing down a powerful two-handed slam in transition, pushing SGA's lead to 86-64. Gomez de Liaño then knocked down another three-pointer that proved to be the dagger as SGA maintained their immaculate run so far. Gomez de Liaño led the local support with 12 points together with seven rebounds and two steals while Rhenz Abando chipped in 11 markers. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Strong Group bucks slow start to beat Chinese Taipei Blue in Jones Cup opener
Strong Group-Philippines overcame a sluggish start to pull off a 67-56 stunner against home team Chinese Taipei Blue and kick off its title defense in the William Jones Cup on the right note on Sunday in Taiwan. The Philippine representative leaned on a third quarter eruption where they dropped 26 points while limiting the opposing foes to just two, opening its campaign with a 1-0 start while the host fell to a 0-1 card. Andre Roberson led the charge with a double-double outing of 17 points, including an eight-point explosion in the third period, and 19 rebounds while also listing five steals to lead the comeback win. Ian Miller made his presence felt with 16 points, three assists, and two rebounds while Rhenz Abando led the local support with 11 markers, three dimes, two boards, two steals, and two blocks. 'This is what veterans are supposed to do,' said Strong Group head coach Charles Tiu. 'We had a rough start, yes, but the guys didn't panic. They responded like professionals. Still, we can't afford to relax moving forward.' Tiu and Strong Group will look to build on this momentum when they take on Japan Developmental Team on Monday at 5:00 p.m., still at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium. 'We'll enjoy this win for a few hours but then it's back to business. There's still a long way to go in this tournament," Tiu added. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

Kevin Durant, other former Thunder players react to OKC winning title
The Oklahoma City Thunder have reached the mountaintop following a 103-91 Game 7 win over the Indiana Pacers in the finals on Sunday night. The Thunder received another huge game from regular season MVP, Western Conference finals MVP, and finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who delivered 29 points, 12 assists, and five rebounds in the effort. The Thunder have won their first title in franchise history. Of course, the team moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008, and they won a title as the SuperSonics back in 1979, but they left their history in the Pacific northwest with the move so this is technically the first championship in Thunder history. Advertisement The franchise has had some fantastic moments since the move to OKC. They made the finals in 2012 led by Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden, but fell short to the Miami Heat. The Thunder have also reached the Western Conference finals numerous times before, but just were not able to get over the hump. After OKC defeated the Pacers, Durant and former Thunder players took to Twitter to react to the team winning the championship: Durant's reaction Andre Roberson Tre Mann This article originally appeared on OKC Thunder Wire: Kevin Durant, other former Thunder players react to OKC winning title

'Blindsided' glamorous basketball reporter breaks silence on being fired over Caitlin Clark posts
Basketball influencer Rachel DeMita has broken her silence on the speculation shrouding her employment status with the Big3 League. The 35-year-old confirmed Friday evening that she had been fired by the 3-on-3 basketball league just days after posting about Caitlin Clark while on the clock. In a candid video shared to social media, DeMita, who is engaged to former NBA star Andre Roberson, admitted that the posts had led to her dismissal but revealed that she was left 'a bit blindsided.' 'The rumors are true, I was fired from the Big 3 — I was terminated from my job with the Big 3,' she announced. 'I can say it, I was terminated this week.' She went on to explain that her three posts on X about the WNBA phenom came during Saturday's clash between the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty, while four Big3 games were also taking place in Chicago. She also admitted to sharing additional posts about the Fever-Liberty matchup, but only once the Big3 broadcast had finished. addressing the rumors. — Rachel A DeMita (@RADeMita) June 20, 2025 The posts appear to have been the final straw for the league, which was founded in-part by rapper Ice Cube, as it deemed them and the WNBA fixture to be in direct competition with its own. DeMita also claimed that the Big3 informed her in a letter that they were cutting ties over her failure to promote 'only league games.' She read a letter from the Big3, which stated: 'It has come to Big3's attention that Miss DeMita was posting on her social media platforms during this weekend's Big3 games and promoting the competing New York Liberty versus Indiana Fever WNBA game that was being broadcast at the same time. 'The league is extremely dismayed and disappointed by Miss DeMita's severe lapse in judgement while performing services for the league during which time she should have reasonably known that she should have been promoting only league games. 'The league provided her with unique access and opportunity to be a focal point on national broadcast, so management was completely taken aback.' Two of the Big3's matchups Saturday were televised on CBS and the others on Vice. Meanwhile, the Fever's upset of the reigning WNBA champions was shown on ABC, drawing the third-most viewership of any WNBA matchup ever aired on the network. 'I did feel bummed that there wasn't any discussion prior to me prior to me being fired,' she said. 'I didn't hear from anybody, there was no talks about it, and I wasn't under the impression that those tweets would do any severe harm to the Big3.' She later added, 'I'm not making excuses, I'll take it on the chin, that's my bad, I apologize for that.' DeMita acknowledged her error and accepted full culpability but still maintained she believed there should have been a discussion before her outright dismissal. DeMita, a former Old Dominion basketball player who has one million followers on Instagram, first joined Big3 in June 2024. Judging by her Instagram posts, the social-media personality is also clearly a huge fan of Clark, who she watched in the flesh as recently as May 3. DeMita shared a photo of herself wearing the Fever sensation's No. 22 jersey at a game in Indiana that day, while including the caption: 'oh it's going to be a fun season'. She has been engaged to ex-Brooklyn Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Roberson, 33, since December 2024, roughly six years since they started dating.
