I Want What They Appear to Have: Monica Barbaro and Andrew Garfield
Love is a many-splendored thing, especially when you're gawking at it from the outside. In this column, we'll be examining the celebrity couples that give us hope for our own romantic futures and trying to learn what we can from their well-documented bonds. Andrew Garfield is one of the few Hollywood men whose dating life I will always take an active, invested, non-horrified interest in; the Social Network star previously dated actor Emma Stone and has described himself as heterosexual when asked, adding, 'I have an openness to any impulses that may arise within me at any time.' (Well, yes! Can leading men have this straight-but-not-narrow energy?) Barbaro, Garfield, Eddie Redmayne, and W magazine's Lynn Hirschberg in January. A few months later, Barbaro and Garfield would attend performances of John Proctor Is the Villain and Oh, Mary! together in New York. Garfield has never remotely been the type to bro-crow on podcasts hosted by sex offenders about all the LA ladies he's spending time with, and for that, I treasure him wholeheartedly—which makes it particularly exciting to me that he's reportedly been dating A Complete Unknown star Monica Barbaro since early 2025. There haven't been a ton of public sightings of the couple yet, and they haven't actually confirmed their relationship (which tracks, given Garfield's famous and hard-won privacy when it comes to his romantic life), but they allegedly linked up after the 2025 Oscars and the Met Gala, and on Monday, May 26, they rang in Memorial Day weekend together in Malibu in the esteemed company of Barbaro's dog Augustus, who was clad in a tasteful yet chic cone. I have a lot of boring, LA-dog-mom questions about how, exactly, a pup navigates the beach while in a cone (wouldn't it get insanely sandy?), but I have to admit that I'm sort of entranced by this notoriously camera-shy and as-yet-un-hard-launched couple making the oh-so-SoCal trek to Malibu together. Personally, I haven't ventured to my usual beach spot since the fires, but I'm glad to know that a) it is technically still possible to hit up Malibu and b) even the most A-list of celebrities are doing it…which must mean it's safe for the rest of us, right? Can Andrew Garfield text me and let me know if the Pacific Coast Highway has reopened? As someone who's lived in LA for five nonconsecutive years (but will always remain an anxious New Yorker at heart, as you can tell from my flurry of questions about dog-health procedure and beach safety), I know there's something extremely special about your first trip out to the beach with your beloved. Obviously, Barbaro and Garfield could have been making surf trips for months without us being any the wiser, but something about their body language makes me think this is their inaugural Malibu trip together. (Also, you can usually trust beachside paparazzi to snap shots of literally anyone even vaguely famous venturing west.) I remember meeting a bunch of my now-partner's friends at Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach early on, and I was definitely nervous, but I'm pretty sure I was also as happy as Garfield and Barbaro look, toting their little white dog (in all his cone-wearing glory) down to the water. We love LA, don't we, folks?

Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro enjoy a romantic walk on the beach in Malibu
Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro have taken their romance to the next level as they stepped out looking relaxed and casual for the beach, just months after their affair began. The couple who have sparked romance speculation since being spotted in London in February this year spent part of their Memorial Day weekend watching the waves crash into the shore on Monday. Barbaro, 34, wore a navy blue sweatshirt over a pair of straight leg jeans. Her long, brown locks were brushed straight and she appeared to be wearing little makeup behind her dark sunglasses. The Oscar nominee carried her small white dog as they strolled along the rocky shore. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. It appeared Auggie may have recently gone through some sort of veterinary procedure as it wore a cone around its neck. Garfield, 41, kept it casual in a pair of green joggers and a gray and black parody T-shirt which featured a skeleton swinging a baseball bat with Los Angeles Dosers written on it. The actor, who sported a full beard and wore dark sunglasses was spotted taking a turn holding Auggie as well. Garfield and Barbaro were first photographed together at W Magazine's Best Performances party in Los Angeles in January. They were spotted together a second time after attending Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey's performance in Richard III in London in February. Barbaro will be treading the boards herself soon. She has been signed to make her stage debut at London's National Theater in a revival of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos' Les Liaisons Dangereuses. She will co-star alongside BAFTA and Olivier Award winner Lesley Manville, and Poldark star Aiden Turner. 'Could not be more excited about this❤️,' the A Complete Unknown star wrote on social media when the announcement was made. Garfield recently completed work on After the Hunt with Julia Roberts and Chloë Sevigny. The thriller focuses on a college professor who must decide what to do when a star student levies an accusation against one of the professor's colleagues. The crime drama will be released in theaters in October.

The Last Of Us actress Kaitlyn Dever has said that Andrew Garfield being so outspoken about his grief after his mother's death helped her with her own loss. She said: 'I would Google it and watch it often, because I always felt like… the worst thing in my life that could happen was losing my best friend. 'And I always thought that I wouldn't be able to go on. 'But then I'd look at Andrew and think, 'well, his life seems to be moving forwards'.' Advertisement She also spoke to the online magazine about filming The Last of Us days after her mother's funeral. Dever, who attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (Rada), said: 'I had just experienced (my loss). 'Even though death is part of the human experience, we are not meant to be used to grief and watching your best friend die. So that was a crazy line to repeat over and over again because I had just seen her. 'She wasn't alive any more and I saw her body in the hospital. And that experience is so gut-wrenching. Nothing will ever be as bad as that.' Rejection Proof: What Actors Can Teach You About Career Resilience
Imagine walking into a room to give a presentation you've been working on for days. After you give it your best, you hear, "Thank you next," or even worse, you wait for weeks and never hear anything. Rejection is a common scenario in acting, and constantly hearing no or nothing can easily make you feel rejected and diminish your self-esteem. "The auditioning process is basically a process of being rejected over and over and over again until you either give up or something breaks and you get an opportunity," Golden Globe winner Andrew Garfield explained in a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) interview. "It's having to have a strong enough sense of oneself to keep facing possible rejection and failure." Here's how actors stay resilient against professional rejection and what business leaders can learn from them about building career resilience. Actors are focused on their acting dreams and constantly work side jobs to pursue them. They are willing to take advantage of any opportunity that will help them learn new skills, build their resumes, and make connections. A study published in 2013 by the Journal of Personality revealed that professionals with intrinsic motivation approach challenges differently. Actors know it's all a numbers game—they'll hear a certain number of "no's" before they hear a "yes." Keeping this in mind makes it easier to stay motivated as the number of rejections rises. Mark Ruffalo had thoughts of giving up as he endured over 600 auditions, but his persistence paid off, and now he's an award-winning actor. Watching the success of others might appear discouraging to some, but determined actors use it as proof that achievement is possible, believing, 'If others can do it, so can I.' Staying encouraged is challenging to do alone. Consider what resources you have to find people who will support you as you keep trying. Just as actors rely on coaches to refine their craft, leaders benefit from having mentors and hiring executive coaches to reach higher career levels. Every leader also has the opportunity to become an influential mentor. Sharing valuable lessons and insights helps the entire team learn and also increases mastery through teaching. Beyond coaching, relationships are also crucial in acting. When auditioning, casting directors may not find the actor right for that particular role, but might remember them for something different later. Business connections work similarly—relationships built now can bring unexpected opportunities later and open doors when you least expect them. Actors strategically network by introducing each other to different contacts, sharing audition opportunities, and creating mutual benefits. Leaders can apply this wisdom by connecting team members to valuable people and experiences. As Zig Ziglar noted, "You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want." This reciprocal approach creates a ripple effect that expands opportunities for the entire team. Start building your resilience today by embracing rejection as feedback rather than failure. Like the most successful actors, the most successful business leaders aren't those who face the fewest rejections—they're those who view rejection differently. Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone shared in the Netflix documentary "Sly" (2023): "I take rejection as someone blowing a bugle in my ear to wake me up and get going, rather than retreat." Like an actor, wake up each day with the expectancy that today can be the day everything changes. You're only one "yes" away.

Andrew Garfield & Focus Features Nearing Deals To Join Paul Greengrass Peasant Revolt Movie ‘The Rage': Cannes Market
EXCLUSIVE: In one of the bigger deals being thrashed out during the Cannes market, we hear that Focus Features is working on a domestic pact in the $11M range for Paul Greengrass' peasant revolt movie The Rage. Two-time Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield is now in active negotiations to join the movie in the lead role, taking over from Matthew McConaughey. More from Deadline Jude Law & Andrew Garfield To Play Siegfried & Roy In Limited Series Ordered By Apple TV+ Andrew Garfield Says Spider-Man Return 'Would Have To Be Very Weird' & The 'Creative Freedom' Of Animated 'Spider-Verse' Movies Alexander Skarsgård-Harry Melling BDSM Romance Pic 'Pillion' Spurs Eight-Minute Ovation At Cannes Premiere The film is set during the Peasants' Revolt, a major uprising that took part across large parts of England in 1381 in response to socio-economic and political tensions and high taxation. Should a deal get done, which we understand is likely, Garfield would play a farmer who becomes the leader of the revolt. It has been speculated that the character could be based on the legendary Wat Tyler, who led the uprising before being killed by forces loyal to King Richard, though this is unconfirmed. Garfield's English background (the dual UK-U.S. national was raised in the UK) makes him a good fit for the project. Between Spider-Man and Hacksaw Ridge, The Social Network and tick tick…BOOM! he has long proven able to mix it between action and prestige roles that connect with audiences and garner significant box office. He is coming off romantic drama We Live in Time, which took close to $60M worldwide, and next will be seen opposite Julia Roberts in Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt. RELATED: Oscar nominee Greengrass, well known for the Bourne franchise and such movies as Captain Phillips and United 93, is scripting the project. Jason Blum is producing through Blumhouse Productions, with Greg Goodman, Joanna Kaye and Greengrass. CAA Media Finance is repping domestic. FilmNation is selling international. Focus has been into the project for a while and began talks at EFM. Blum and Goodman recently teamed on Greengrass' upcoming movie The Lost Bus for Apple. Focus is coming off a busy and lucrative awards season thanks to Conclave and Nosferatu. It's at the Cannes Film Festival with Wes Anderson's Phoenician Scheme and The History of Sound and there are high hopes later this year for movies such as Hamnet, Bugonia and the next Downton Abbey installment.
