Seethakka said that in many places, newborn babies were being abandoned in bushes and garbage dumps. She said that cradles will be set up wherever possible to prevent this. She said that instead of throwing the babies away if they were left in those cradles, the government would take their responsibility. The Minister said that it was sad that even after 10 years of Telangana's formation, the rules of the Prevention of Child Marriage Act were not adopted. She announced that the rules would be adopted soon. The Minister said that people should be made aware of the harm caused by child marriages in village assemblies and other government programs. She said that the seeds of ICDS schemes were planted in the Telangana region. She recalled that freedom fighter Durgabai Deshmukh started ICDS in Mahabubnagar in 1972. Based on those experiences, Indira Gandhi expanded the ICDS scheme across the country. She said that Durgabai Deshmukh and Indira Gandhi were the pioneers of Anganwadi services.

Centre sanctions 42 road projects in K'taka; state cleared 27: Satish Jarkiholi
Belagavi: Public works minister Satish Jarkiholi clarified that a total of 42 road projects were sanctioned by the Centre in coordination with the state government. Of these, the state granted full clearances for 27 projects, including land acquisition and transfer to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Clearance is pending for the remaining 15 projects, which, the minister said, will be resolved shortly. He was speaking at a media interaction programme organised by Belagavi media association at Vartha Bhavan on Wednesday. Jarkiholi also alleged that the Centre dropped a previously sanctioned flyover project for Belagavi due to opposition from local BJP leaders. "The project was announced by minister Nitin Gadkari, but was later withdrawn. However, the state govt has decided to take up the project with its own funds. Chief minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone in Oct," he announced. Jarkiholi also provided an update on major development works in Belagavi. He said the land acquisition for Belagavi-Dharwad new railway line is complete, while 80% of land acquisition for Belagavi Ring Road is done. A new Rs 10 crore sports complex is under construction at Ramtirth Nagar. A multi-speciality govt hospital is ready for inauguration, and 257 new Anganwadis have been sanctioned. PM Modi didn't just speak of modernising Anganwadis but delivered it: Smriti Irani
New Delhi: While the Modi government completes 11 years in power, 'Garib Kalyan' has remained at the core of governance as reflected in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's oft-repeated pitch of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas'. Much like Ujjwala Yojana, DBT, Jan Dhan Yojana and others, Anganwadi centres have seen upgradation and transformation for the first time, under Prime Minister Modi. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday explained in detail how the Anganwadis remained "institutions of no relevance" during UPA rule but became digitised and modernised under the Modi government. The Modi Story, a popular social media handle on X, shared a video of Smriti Irani shedding light on the differences between the BJP and Congress regimes in their outlook, focus and governance regarding Anganwadis. In the video, Irani, the former Women and Child Development Minister, said there is too much of a difference between boasting about bringing change and delivering it on the ground. "PM Modi didn't just speak about modernisation but delivered it. He not just spoke about revamping old ways of working in the Anganwadis but also brought structural changes to ensure that the real change happens on the ground," she said. Lamenting the ignorance and negligence of Anganwadi centres during the Congress regime, she said that it remained in power for so many years, but Anganwadis were never on its list of priorities. Recalling the range of initiatives to strengthen Anganwadis, Irani said that under Prime Minister Modi, more than 11 lakh Anganwadis received smart devices and 12 lakh growth monitoring devices, a first in the country's history. Over 10 lakh Anganwadi workers were trained digitally and offline, she further informed, calling it a true example of turning vision into action. Notably, Anganwadi Services are one of the flagship programmes of the government providing early childhood care and development of the beneficiaries i.e. children in the age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a large network of Anganwadi workers (AWW) and Helpers (AWH). Under POSHAN Abhiyaan, the Aanganwadi workers (AWWs) have been technologically empowered with smartphones. A total of 11.03 lakhs smartphones have been procured by States/UTs. In a first-of-its-kind initiative this year, the Women and Child Development Ministry decided to extend childcare services through Anganwadi cum Creche (AWCC).

Seethakka adds egg biryani to Anganwadi plates

Speaking at a seminar in Hyderabad organised by the department of women and child welfare, Seethakka addressed critical issues affecting pregnant women, lactating mothers, and young children at these grassroots centres. One of her first assurances was that the govt will supply benches to centres where women are still forced to sit on the floor. "We are committed to improving the comfort, nutrition, education, and dignity of our women and children," she said, pledging to eliminate nutritional deficiencies among children and bolster health and learning outcomes at Anganwadi centres. Among the key announcements include: Egg biryani twice a week to boost nutrition and variety in children's meals, modern smartphones for Anganwadi teachers, replacing outdated devices to improve record-keeping and communication, a new school bell system, designed to instil a sense of punctuality and discipline among both children and staff and distribution of 57 types of educational and recreational materials to enhance learning environments. She also announced launch of the 'Amma Mata Anganwadi Bata' drive to increase enrolments and 'Selfie with Anganwadi' to promote visibility and engagement. Seethakka also said that the department will soon fill 14,000 vacancies in Anganwadi centres to reduce workload and improve service delivery. She reiterated the govt's commitment to blacklisting suppliers of substandard materials, especially those dealing in egg supplies, to ensure quality food for children. "The changes won't just be cosmetic. We are working systematically to bring dignity and discipline to Anganwadis across the state," Seethakka said.
