AR Rahman on his colleagues Harris and Sai Abhyankkar as competition: ‘If we do fewer films…'
AR Rahman was recently seen in a chat with director KS Ravikumar for Thug Life, slated to release on June 5, 2025. Ahead of the film's release, the musician was asked whether he considers musicians like Anirudh Ravichander and Sai Abhyankkar as competition. In response, AR Rahman spoke to Behindwoods TV and said, 'No, I am actually very happy about it. If we do fewer films, we can create songs that are higher in quality. When musicians like Harris Jayaraj, Anirudh Ravichander, and Sai Abhyankkar come forward, I get more time to compose. I can live my life better.' In addition to AR Rahman's response, Kamal Haasan emphasized that creative people need contemporary competition for artistic growth. He added that this is essential for an artist's progress and noted that AR Rahman himself has drawn significant influence from past musicians. For those unaware, musicians like Harris Jayaraj, Anirudh Ravichander, and the latest sensation, Sai Abhyankkar, have collaborated with AR Rahman in recent times. Coming to AR Rahman's work front, the musician is set to hit the big screens with the film Thug Life. The gangster action film tells the story of Rangaraaya Sakthivel Nayakar, a mafia head who adopts a young boy, Amaran, and raises him as his own. As Sakthivel grows older, he appoints Amaran as his right-hand man. However, when Sakthivel is presumed dead, he makes a dramatic return seeking revenge, suspecting his foster son to be behind it, sparking a deadly game of betrayal and survival. The Mani Ratnam directorial is co-written by him and Kamal Haasan. Featuring veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR as co-leads, the film also boasts an ensemble cast including Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, and many others in key roles. As the release date approaches, the makers are planning an audio launch event featuring a live performance by AR Rahman. Looking ahead, the musician has several projects lined up, including Tere Ishk Mein, Peddi, Genie, and more.

Anirudh Ravichander is currently one of the most sought music composers in the industry, he made his debut in 2012 with the Tamil film 'Three', directed by his cousin Aishwarya Rajinikanth and starring Dhanush. Following the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed at least 26 lives, popular music composer Anirudh Ravichander has postponed ticket sales for his upcoming concert in Bengaluru as a mark of respect for the victims and their families. In a statement posted on social media, Anirudh expressed sorrow over the attack. 'The tragic events in Pahalgam have deeply shaken us all. Our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences go out to the victims and their families,' he wrote. He further stated, 'Considering the current national situation, we are postponing the ticket sales for the Second Show – HUKUM World Tour, Bengaluru, which was originally scheduled to go live today at 2 PM.' Arijit Singh Cancels Chennai Concert After Pahalgam Attack, Promises Ticket Refunds
The Pahalgam attack has cast a shadow of grief and shock all over the country. Many celebrities have expressed their condolences over the horrifying incident, which left 26 dead in Jammu and Kashmir. The incident also led to the cancellation of several promotional events and concerts, including one featuring singer Arijit Singh in Chennai. The concert, set to be held on April 27, has now been cancelled. Musician Anirudh Ravichander has also paused sales of his Bengaluru event. The Jailer composer's concert is scheduled to take place in the city on June 1 this year. Arijit Singh shared a note from the organisers on his Instagram Stories. The message stated that the show would not take place. It added that all ticket holders would be refunded. There was no update on whether the city would play host to Arijit Singh at a later date. 'IMPORTANT UPDATE. In light of the recent and tragic events, the organisers, along with the artist, have collectively made the decision to cancel the upcoming show scheduled to happen in Chennai this Sunday, April 27th. All ticket holders will receive full refunds, and the amount will be automatically refunded back to your original mode of payment. Thank you for your understanding,' the note read. Arijit Singh's Instagram Story Earlier, Anirudh Ravichander had stated that the ticket sales for the HUKUM World Tour's Bengaluru show had been postponed. The tickets were set to go on sale April 24. The composer said that the new date for the same would be announced later. 'The tragic events in Pahalgam have deeply shaken us all.
