Fake guns, suspected drugs seized in northwestern Ont. raid
An OPP-led police taskforce seized six imitation firearms, suspected cocaine, a prohibited weapon, ammunition, $1,500 in cash and other drug paraphernalia. Two individuals are facing multiple charges after a joint police investigation led to the seizure of imitation firearms, drugs, and other prohibited items in Thunder Bay and Fort William First Nation. Investigation and raid In June 2025, the Ontario Provincial Police-led Provincial Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team, alongside the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and the Anishinabek Police Service, launched an intelligence-led probe into alleged drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession in the region. On July 30, 2025, officers executed a search warrant on Fort William First Nation with support from the OPP emergency response team and canine unit. (Supplied/Ontario Provincial Police) During the search, police seized: 45 grams of suspected cocaine, 110 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 650 grams of a cutting agent, six imitation firearms, one prohibited weapon (nunchaku), ammunition, four cell phones, digital scales, $1,500 in cash and a 2010 Ford Escape, deemed offence-related property Two face charges As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old woman from Fort William First Nation faces 15 charges, including: Drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of property, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition, operation while prohibited, failure to comply with a release order and seven counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order She was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on Aug. 13. A 25-year-old Thunder Bay man was also charged with drug trafficking and failing to comply with a release order. He remains in custody and is set to appear in court on Aug. 12. Sudbury armed robbery suspects arrested on northwestern Ont. highway
Two men accused of robbing someone in Greater Sudbury at gunpoint last week were arrested after police in northwestern Ontario spotted the suspect's vehicle on Highway 17. Around 11 a.m. June 13, a man was in his vehicle in the parking lot of a Main Street business in Lively when he was approached by two people, Sudbury police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn told in an email. 'One of the individuals entered the community member's vehicle and demanded money while displaying what was described as a firearm,' Dunn said. 'The community member complied and gave the unknown individual an undisclosed amount of cash.' The two suspects fled in a vehicle and the victim was able to give descriptions to the police the next day through the Canadian Police Information Centre. Officers from the Schreiber detachment, east of Thunder Bay, spotted the vehicle on Highway 17 near Schreiber around 5 p.m. on Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release. While those officers followed the suspects, other officers from the Nipigon detachment and Anishinabek Police Service set up spike belts to stop the vehicle. 'The vehicle stopped in front of the spike belts and three occupants were arrested without incident,' OPP said. 'Two were held for bail and one released at the request of Greater Sudbury Police Service.' The two men, ages 61 and 37, are charged with robbery with a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm and forcible confinement.

London teenager dies in drowning at Ipperwash Beach

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday June 30, a 12-year-old and 18-year-old were swimming in Lake Huron near East Parkway Drive when they went in distress. Members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Anishinabek Police Service, Lambton County Emergency Medical Services, and Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services responded. Samaritans jumped in action to begin life-saving efforts prior to the arrival of first responders. The 12-year-old from London was safely brought to shore by members of the public and transported to hospital as a precaution. A second individual was located unresponsive and transported to hospital. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, an 18-year-old from London was pronounced deceased at hospital. The investigation is continuing.

Sault police charge woman with fraud, forgery

Marie police for allegedly using stolen cheques to steal money from a person's bank account has been arrested. The fraud unit began the investigation May 31 after a complaint about fraudulent bank withdrawals, police said in a news release Friday. 'An investigation revealed one of the cheques was forged by the accused and fraudulently deposited into the accused's account,' police said. Acting on an arrest warrant, Anishinabek Police Service found and arrested the 47-year-old accused in the nearby community of Garden River First Nation. She is charged with forgery and fraud under $5,000. 'The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court Aug.11,' police said.
