Mooney masterminds Manchester victory over doused Fire
Beth Mooney has masterminded a valuable victory for Manchester Originals in the Hundred Women, beating Welsh Fire in Cardiff by seven wickets. The visitors eased to victory with 19 balls to spare, after an impressive display in the field restricted Fire to 9-73 off their 100 balls. Mooney failed with the bat, making three, but showed her worth as skipper as she juggled her bowling resources. The innovative move was to give teenager pacer Monika Gaur 20 of the first 25 balls, at the end of which Fire were 2-12. This is possible in the Hundred's format. Balls are bowled in sets of five, two sets at a time from each end, with bowlers able to deliver consecutive sets. Name that celebration 👀#TheHundred The Hundred (@thehundred) August 13, 2025 Beth Mooney stumps Georgia Elwiss off Sophie Ecclestone Nevertheless, it had not been done before in five seasons of the women's competition. Gaur began with ten balls, setting the tone as the English left-armer dismissed international colleagues Sophia Dunkey (2) and Tammy Beaumont (0). The world's No.1 spinner Sophie Ecclestone bowled the next five, conceding two runs, then Mooney brought Gaur back for ten more, five from each end, finishing with 2-10. From then on Mooney rotated her bowlers, using seven in all, to keep Fire doused. Ecclestone picked up 2-11 from her 20 balls, having Georgia Elwiss (11) stumped by Mooney and bowling West Indies' Hayley Matthews (22). English quick Lauren Filer claimed 3-8, including Australia's Jess Jonassen (20 off 19), and Scot Kathryn Bryce took 2-7 in ten balls late on. "I've sometimes got too many options but hopefully bowled them in the right spots today," said Mooney. "I speak to the coaching staff (head coach is Michael Klinger), making sure I have good options in the powerplay, then it is more about gut feel." After Matthews had Mooney lbw following a review Bryce (45 off 41) took Manchester to the brink of victory before she was stumped in Jonassen's second set. Jonassen took 1-10 off 15 but should have had more. In her first set Smales, on 1, edged behind off the glove, but it was a difficult edge to discern and Fire did not review. Later, with the game almost done, Smales (20 not out) was dropped on 15 and Deandra Dottin should have been stumped, though neither were easy chances. Earlier on Wednesday Southern Brave, the only squad without an Australian, thrashed Northern Superchargers by eight wickets with 17 balls to spare at Southampton. Brilliant Bouchier! ⭐️Maia Bouchier takes a stunning catch to remove the destructive Annabel Sutherland 💥#TheHundred The Hundred (@thehundred) August 13, 2025 Annabel Sutherland fell to a fine catch Both sides came into the match boasting two wins from two but Superchargers were dismissed for 102 off the last of their 100 balls. Skipper Hollie Armitage was last out, top-scoring with 36. Australia's Annabel Sutherland was next best with 20 while Phoebe Litchfield made five before falling to New Zealand's Sophie Devine (3-15). Georgia Wareham was absent. Last year's match was a tie with both teams making 100, but this time Brave coasted to victory with England's Danni Wyatt-Hodge (43) and South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt (33) adding 62 in 45 balls. The results left Brave, who are coached by South Australian Luke Williams, top with 12 points. Superchargers and Originals are respectively third and fourth with eight, and Welsh Fire bottom and pointless.

Prendergast seals top spot in ICC rankings
In-form Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast continues her rise up the latest rankings as impressive Australian seamer Annabel Sutherland becomes the No.1 ranked T20I bowler for the first time. Ireland youngster Orla Prendergast has been rewarded for some strong performances against Pakistan by reaching new career-high ratings in the latest ICC Women's T20I Player Rankings. Prendergast was in sublime form for Ireland during their recent 2-1 series triumph over Pakistan, with the 23-year-old making excellent contributions with bat and ball to deservedly claim the Player of the Series award. The right-hander amassed 144 runs across the three matches at an average of 72 and chipped in with four valuable wickets with her more than handy medium pacers. It saw Prendergast obtain a new career-high rating and climb eight spots to 19th overall on the list for T20I batters, while she also gained three places to improve to sixth on the rankings for T20I all-rounders. Ireland teammates Laura Delany (up five spots to equal 50th) and Rebecca Stokell (up five rungs to 77th) also made some ground on the rankings for T20I batters, while Pakistan will be buoyed by the efforts of Muneeba Ali (up three places to equal 32nd) and Fatima Sana (up four spots to 59th) across the three-game series as they too made gains on the same list. There was also a shake-up at the top of the rankings for T20I bowlers, with Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland claiming top spot in the category despite not playing an international fixture across the last week. Sutherland hasn't featured in the shortest format since she took a four-wicket haul against New Zealand in March, but her rating of 736 remains unchanged as a group of bowlers near the top of the rankings lost points across the last week. Pakistan spinner Sadiq Iqbal was previously the No.1 ranked T20I bowler, but she dropped one spot to move to equal second alongside India's Deepti Sharma after she picked up just three wickets across the series against Ireland. It saw Iqbal lose rating points overall and relinquish top spot on the rankings, with Sutherland rising to claim the premier position for the first time in her fledgling career.

Ex-Aussie captain Meg Lanning tops The Hundred batting charts in England
Australian star Annabel Sutherland has soared to be the No.1 T20 bowler in the world, but an Aussie who doesn't play international cricket is dominating the short format in England. Former captain Meg Lanning is the highest run-scorer in The Hundred after another blistering effort. At 33, and having played her last match for her country in 2023 before a premature retirement that shocked the cricket and sporting world, Lanning continues to show herself to be a batting force. Playing for the Oval Invincibles, Lanning's latest effort was part of a powerhouse opening partnership that racked up 54 runs off 25 balls, the best powerplay score in the five-year history of the competition. Meg Lanning is carving up in England. Picture:Lanning smashed six fours in her 19-ball innings of 36 that took her haul in the tournament to 177 runs in just three innings, 20 ahead of big-hitting Aussie Grace Harris, who still plays for Australia. Since her retirement from the international game, Lanning has continued to plunder runs for Victoria as well as dominate the Indian Premier League, where she's the third highest run-scorer in the tournament's history. All those runs have come against international-calibre bowlers, making it clear she would still be a batting force for Australia. Lanning's retirement sparked a regeneration of the Australian team, and superstar all-rounder Sutherland has been a major beneficiary. The 23-year-old has netted centuries at Test and ODI level and continues to star with the ball. Sutherland has also been a beneficiary of a quirk of the International Cricket Council's rankings system, being elevated to the No.1 T20 bowling ranking despite not playing an international T20 since she took a four-wicket haul against New Zealand in March. But her rating of 736 remains unchanged, as a group of bowlers near the top of the rankings lost points across the last week.

Hundred excellence: Aussie duo shine with bat and ball
Australia's women cricket stars have continued to shine at the start of English cricket's latest edition of the Hundred, with allrounders Georgia Wareham and Annabel Sutherland the latest to really sparkle. The international duo were in superb form with both bat, ball and in the field for the Australian-powered Northern Superchargers outfit on Thursday, helping the Leeds-based side crush the Welsh Fire by 47 runs at Headingley. Following the brilliant knocks from Grace Harris and Meg Lanning which had kicked off this year's 100-ball-a-side event at Lord's, the well-rested Sutherland smiled: "I think you'll find a lot of us Aussies are pretty keen to be over here playing some cricket." Ending an innings in style 😎Georgia Wareham goes BIG on the last ball, and Northern Superchargers score an impressive 141 runs 💪#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 7, 2025 While Wareham took the player of the match 'hero' honours, Sutherland also certainly looked hungry in her first match in four months as, for openers, she cracked a glorious driven boundary before following up with two sixes in her 28 off 20 balls. That was followed by Wareham providing a spectacular finish to the Superchargers innings, cracking 29 off 17 and ending the innings with a spectacular 74-metre six off a full-toss gift from her old Australia teammate Jess Jonassen, who proved particularly expensive, going for 33 off her 20 balls. The only disappointment with the bat for the Yorkshire side's Aussie contingent was when Phoebe Litchfield, who had started with a lovely cover-driven four off her first ball, soon departed off her third ball, caught at backward point Huge reaction from Tammy Beaumont! 🔥The dangerous Phoebe Litchfield is OUT! 😳#TheHundred — The Hundred (@thehundred) August 7, 2025 Their eventual total of 4-141, though, which had been largely forged through the unbroken late stand of 52 between Wareham and top scorer Hollie Armitage (34no), was to prove comfortably enough once the Aussie allrounders got into action with the ball. Wareham was also particularly sharp in the field to launch the Fire's swift demise as she ran out Sophia Dunkley for just one. The legspinner then tempted Jonassen to hit straight to Sutherland at mid-off for just one as the visitors crumbled to 4-51. Sutherland (1-19 off 20 balls) continued the Welsh woe by flattening Sarah Bryce's off-stump, before Wareham trapped Katie George lbw, finishing her 20-ball stint with the excellent figures of 2-14, including 11 dot balls. To complete her brilliant day, the 26-year-old Victorian took a spectacular running-and-diving catch to get rid of the last batter Katie Levick as the Fire folded on 94 all out.
