Mumbai Railway motormen threaten to limit duty hours over signal call-out Rule
Mumbai: Train operations on Central Railway (CR) could be affected this week as motormen threaten to work only "One Detail" a day in protest against the administration's decision to make signal call-outs mandatory. "One Detail" refers to completing a single scheduled shift of trips. Currently, due to staff shortages, several motormen voluntarily take up additional duties—called "Second Detail "—especially during peak hours to ensure services run on time. Motormen are objecting to the insistence on calling out every signal aspect—green, yellow, or red—which is being recorded through the Crew Voice and Video Recording System (CVVRS) installed inside the motor cab. The device captures both visuals and audio to enhance safety and act as evidence in case of any mishap. "They have now gone back on their word," said a representative of a railway union. An internal circular dated July 21 reiterates that signal call-outs are "mandatory" and needed to prevent SPAD (Signal Passed At Danger) cases. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Anne Hegerty And Her Partner, Who You Will Easily Recognize Sport Pirate Undo by Taboola by Taboola "All motormen are advised to call out signals loud and clear," the circular states. Union leaders say it is impractical to call out signals every few hundred metres across long shifts, especially on routes like Karjat, Kasara, and Panvel–CSMT. "There are signal poles every 450–750 metres. Repeated call-outs over long hours are stressful," said a senior union leader. A CR official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "This is a safety protocol. Calling out signals keeps the motorman mentally alert and reinforces awareness of track conditions, especially in high-risk zones."

ITV The Chase star Anne Hegerty 'happy in own company' after struggling to pay bills
Professional quizzer Anne Hegerty is a firm favourite of ITV The Chase fans, where she is known for playing her straight-laced role as the 'Governess' It's been a long journey for professional quizzer Anne Hergerty, 66, - and she has come far from the days when, during a difficult period in her life, a council worker had to help her open her post. A firm favourite amongst The Chase fans for her straight-laced persona of 'The Governess' on ITV, Anne has become a staple part of the British quizzing scene. But her love for general knowledge and competitive streak goes well beyond the last few years, which have taken her career to new heights of success - even back in the mid-1980s, she made a television appearance, showing off her intellect. A stint on I'm a Me Out of Here, made her something of a household name, and earned her dedicated fans beyond those hooked to quiz shows. The Chase's Anne Hegerty vents true opinion on 'dominatrix' outfit she's 'always hated' ITV The Chase rejected nicknames for Chasers - including one that was too 'racy' Back in the eighties, Anne took a turn in the Mastermind chair, with the special subject of The Life and Works of Lorenz Hartand she looked totally unrecognisable with a curly short hairdo and a patterned dress - that was pretty emblematic of the loud styles that were all the rage then. Her appearance took place in 1987, when she was 30 years old, and working as a freelance journalist - but it isn't the only unlikely throwback of the TV personality that has shocked her fans. An old photo of Anne, when she was even younger, with long curly locks and a cheeky smile, the snap from 1983 was pretty much unrecognisable to her fans, who are so used to her formidable governess persona. These days, Anne is almost always seen in a smart suit that is reminiscent of a schoolmarm, something she has called "stupendously unflattering" but does admittedly fit her quizzing persona perfectly. The governess character is "a bit creepy" Anne has said, revealing she based the persona in part on Professor Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter series. "But a friend of mine said 'you won't be able to sustain that', so I went down the more of the standard scary rout and, in recent years, at least one American viewer has compared me to Professor McGonagall from the Harry Potter films," she previously told Stuff. "So McGonagall, not Umbridge: I'll take that." Before becoming a star on The Chase, Anne was going through a difficult time in her personal life. She had been working as a freelance proofreader, but found things getting on top of her. Anne, who is autistic, found it tricky to stay on top of her accounts due to her condition. She was living in council housing when a worker from the Housing Association came to her home because she had fallen behind on paying her rent. "I just simply couldn't keep it going and the result was I wasn't paying my bills, but I was trying not to go on benefits on the grounds that I just thought that was sort of giving up. I wasn't giving up," Anne has said. The TV star explained that during the visit, the women from the Housing Association stepped in to help Anne get back on top of things. "She was stepping over piles of unopened mail and realised we had a problem. She said 'we will fix this, I will get someone to help you,'" Anne explained. Anne was also put in touch with a social worker who helped her sort out her finances and made sure she was receiving the benefits she was entitled to, the Disability Living Allowance. It wasn't long after this that Anne got her big break on The Chase, and whilst she has said she is incredibly grateful for her job, she has also admitted some aspects of fame can be tricky to deal with. "It is difficult to go down the street without being recognised. It's weird and interesting," she said of her celebrity status. "There are times when you're not absolutely crazy about it.. but I hope I never take it for granted." Anne has also appeared on Fifteen to One, Today's the Day, Are You an Egghead? and Brain of Britain - and in 2016 came in at 55th in the World Quizzing Championships, the second highest woman placing in the competition. Anne is undoubtedly a massive brainiac and general knowledge superstar, but she has admitted her autism has got in the way of forging romantic connections. In a candid moment on The Chaser's Roadtrip she confessed to her co-stars Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace that her longest relationship had been only four months. "He was a lovely bloke, but I am just not good with the sort of attention that people need," she admitted. Anne has never shied away from the topic of her personal life, telling the Guardian that "I think the problem is I find it really difficult to fall in love with real people. I've thought: 'Am I in love with this guy?' And then we kind of get together and I think 'damn it, no, oh dear'." She explained further to OK! magazine that she struggles at times to stay in the moment, "I get overwhelmed in the presence of actual people and everything shuts down. I've found that with sex, too. It's like I can't be fully in it. That much intimacy, I almost zone out." However, there is a long list of single men hoping for an opportunity to take out Anne - who is based in Watford - if she ever changes her mind about preferring her "own company". "Let's say I would not be short of offers if I went looking. But I am happy with my own company," she told The Sun. "I've had relationships go wrong precisely because I could not devote the mental energy to it, and I just thought 'No, no, no, this is not a good idea'. I find men make such great friends - so let's keep them like that."

Chaser Paul Sinha makes brutal jibe about fans of the ITV game show - calling out 'unemployed' watchers
Chaser Paul Sinha has taken a brutal swipe at viewers of the hugely popular ITV game show - calling keen fans 'unemployed'. His quick wit and fiery authenticity has made Paul, aka The Sinnerman, a fan favourite on The Chase. Colleague and fellow Chaser Anne Hegerty, known by the moniker The Governess, has previously described him as the most 'fearsome' Chaser. But when he's not playing fiercely on the show, he's performing stand up comedy around the country. Arriving at the Ealing Comedy Festival on Thursday, the 55-year-old kicked off his set with a playful jab at watchers of The Chase, the Express reported. 'Welcome to you, and a special welcome to those of you in full-time employment, as you won't have a clue who I am,' he said - in a cheeky nod to the show's airing time of 5pm on weekdays. But Paul did not shy away from laughing at himself, as he poked fun at his player name The Sinnerman, saying: 'It's a s*** name. It means f*** all. It makes me sound like a low-budget superhero!' The ITV quizzer, who first qualified as a doctor before turning to comedy, even poked fun at his family names. 'My mum's name is Smith,' he said. 'It's an unusual maiden name for someone with full Bengali heritage, but there is an explanation - which is I'm lying. I made it up.' Paul later admitted his mother's maiden name was actually Chakrabarti, which he joked has '17 variant spellings in the English language.' He added that he'd been 'locked out of so many online accounts' after selecting it as a security question. 'Many years ago, I made the pragmatic decision that my mum's name is actually Smith - it's not easy though, I tell you,' he continued. Paul joked that he'd made a successful career owing to his knack for 'box-ticking', as he falls into a number of 'diverse' categories. 'I'm a gay man and, I'll be honest, it's not a bad life - you're the only openly gay British Asian qualified doctor with Parkinson's Disease,' he laughed. The Chaser said that, after a long period of singledom between the ages of 18 and 41, he had finally found love. But, in a cruel twist of fate, he received his Parkinson's diagnosis the very same year he became a married man. 'When you see as many doctors as I do, your life is a rollercoaster, your career is a rollercoaster... tonight I'm in Ealing [but] two weeks ago I had a damage limitation gig with the production team at Masterchef! It's all happening for me!' This appeared to the audience to be a gesture to TV chef John Torode's recent dismissal from his BBC post following accusations he had used derogatory racialised language. Despite his buoyant tone, it has been a difficult few years for Paul, who acknowledges that his disease could eventually leave him 'expressionless' and 'immobile'. Nonetheless he insisted he was facing the future with 'good cheer and optimism', as proved by the riotous comedy set that drove his audience to (happy) tears. The London-based doctor has previously opened up about his declining health, having admitted he suffered two heart attacks in the same week but refused to call an ambulance for a 'stupid' reason. Paul told of his ordeal on an episode of Good Morning Britain to presenters Susanna Reid, 54, and Ed Balls, 58. He said the ordeal happened while he was at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 to perform a run of shows. He explained of his set at the Scottish arts festival: 'It was a bit of a wild show. 'It was very much about my life as a gay, disabled son of immigrants but it was quite a political show, and it was a big show. 'I was in a room with 400 people in and it all got on top of me and I had two heart attacks in the same Edinburgh Fringe. 'Two! Week number one and week number three.' Paul explained the first heart attack happened while he was 'shaking the hand of Levi Roots', who he had been introduced to in a bar. As he greeted the businessman, known for pitching Reggae Reggae Sauce on Dragons' Den, he felt 'a crushing, tightening chest pain'. Having previously worked as a GP before entering showbusiness, the quizzer explained: 'As my years of medicine made me remember, it was not like anything I'd ever felt before and I knew it was cardiac. 'But I didn't want to cause a scene so I just walked into a cab. 'I didn't want to call an ambulance because I thought, "I might as well just get into a cab to take me to the nearest hospital as quickly as possible", which is what I did.'

A deported foreigner may apply to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship to lift the deportation order and seek permission to return to the UAE/ Representative Image What Is Deportation? Deportation refers to the legal removal of a non-citizen from a country. In the UAE, deportation is a serious measure that applies to foreign nationals who commit certain offenses or are deemed a threat to public safety, security, or morals. The process is enforced under strict legal provisions and, once executed, can permanently bar the individual from re-entering the country unless an exemption is granted. There are two main types of deportation in the UAE: Judicial (Legal) Deportation Administrative Deportation Each type is governed by different laws, authorities, and procedures, which determine whether a person is permanently expelled from the country, the possibility of return, and how appeals can be made. Judicial Deportation: Court-Ordered Expulsion Based on Criminal Conviction Judicial deportation is issued by a court after a foreign national is convicted of a crime. This type of deportation is governed by Article 121 of Federal Law No. 3 of 1987 (UAE Penal Code), as amended by Federal Law No. 34 of 2005 and further amended by Federal Decree-Law No. 7 of 2016. What Article 121 States: A foreign national must be deported if convicted of a felony (serious criminal offense) for which a custodial punishment (i.e., prison sentence) is imposed. Mandatory deportation also applies to crimes involving sexual assault or related offenses. In other misdemeanors (less serious offenses), the court has discretion to: Issue a deportation order Replace the prison term with deportation Allow the individual to remain, depending on the specific case This means that for serious crimes like drug trafficking, rape, or violent assaults, deportation is not optional, it is automatically imposed by law. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Anne Hegerty And Her Partner, Who You Will Easily Recognize Sport Pirate Undo In contrast, for minor offenses such as bounced cheques or verbal disputes, the decision is up to the court's assessment. Administrative Deportation: Authority-Issued Expulsion for Public Interest Administrative deportation is not tied to a criminal conviction. It is executed by competent government bodies when a foreign national is deemed a threat to public safety, morals, or health, or lacks sufficient means of living. This type of deportation is issued under: Ministerial Decision No. 360 of 1997 (Executive Regulations of Law No. 6 of 1973 on Entry and Residency of Foreigners) As amended by Decree Law No. 17 of 2017 Who Has the Power to Order Administrative Deportation? The Federal Public Prosecutor or his legal representative The Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) or his authorized representative Even if the foreign national holds a valid visa or residency permit, a deportation order may still be issued if deemed necessary for: Threats to public safety, public morals, public health, or national security Lack of apparent means of living Other discretionary reasons considered to be in the public interest The deportation order may also include dependents of the individual, such as a spouse or children, if they rely on that person for financial support. Even minors can be deported under judicial deportation if deemed necessary by the court. For example, repeat juvenile offenders involved in theft or violence may face expulsion, particularly if their actions threaten public order. Institutional Authority: The Role of ICP Under Federal Decree Law No. 3 of 2017, all powers and responsibilities related to: Nationality Passports Entry and Residency of Foreigners ...originally under the Ministry of Interior, are now transferred to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (now known as ICP). The ICP exercises full legal jurisdiction to manage deportation cases, entry permits, and related matters as part of its national mandate. Execution of Deportation and Financial Obligations Once a deportation order, judicial or administrative, is finalized: Once a person is deported, they are added to an electronic blacklist used by UAE immigration systems They are removed from the UAE, often after completing any prison sentence or paying a fine Illegal return, including attempts using false identities or forged passports, is a criminal offense and strictly monitored. UAE law enforcement collaborates with international security partners, airlines, and travel agencies to prevent re-entry by blacklisted individuals Expenses of Deportation (As per Law by Decree): According to Article 17, the Chairman of the Federal Authority may direct that deportation-related costs be recovered from: The deported person's own funds, if available The employer, if in violation of labor or residency law Otherwise, the government (ICA) will cover the costs Grace Period for Settling Interests in the UAE A deported individual may have business dealings, employment, properties, or family responsibilities that require time to resolve. Under the law: A grace period may be granted to settle personal or financial matters This is subject to the approval of the ICP The individual must submit a financial guarantee (bail) The maximum period allowed is three months This window is not automatic, it must be requested and is considered on a case-by-case basis. Can Deportation Be Lifted or Cancelled? Yes. A foreigner who has been deported may, in certain cases, apply for special permission to return to the UAE. This applies to both judicial and administrative deportations, though not all applications are accepted. Legal Basis for Re-entry: Article 18 of Federal Law by Decree No. (29) of 2021 concerning Entry and Residence of Foreigners states: A foreigner who has beendeported may not return to the UAE unless he obtains special permission from the Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP). Application Process: Submit a formal request to the naturalization and residency department of the relevant emirate Include: Details of past residency Reasons for original deportation Justifications for returning Changes in personal or legal circumstances Supporting documents (employment offers, family ties, rehabilitation records, etc.) Alternatively, the individual may appoint a legal representative or lawyer to handle the process. Dubai-Specific Process: In Dubai, applications for lifting deportation can be submitted online via the Public Prosecution's website. A special legal committee reviews each case and makes a decision based on: Severity of the original offense Whether the crime was intentional or first-time Applicant's behavior before and after deportation Any new risks posed to public safety There are no fixed requirements for what documents must be submitted, but stronger supporting evidence increases the chances of approval.
