M-League will not collapse, Kelantan to continue competing

FORMER Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) President Tan Sri Annuar Musa has expressed confidence that the Malaysian League (M-League) will not collapse. In a Facebook post, Annuar urged all parties to unite and continue striving for the future of national football. He also hinted that Kelantan Darul Naim (KDN) FC would remain in the Super League next season, while stressing the importance of learning from past shortcomings. 'Will the league die? InsyaAllah, no. We must make every effort. Let us not point fingers. Everyone has contributed. Kelantan will compete in the Super League, InsyaAllah. we will manage things our way and learn from past weaknesses. 'What is certain is that many surprises await... InsyaAllah, we will no longer allow the Kelantan team to be an easy target. One condition: unity and willingness to serve – for the sport, for Kelantan, and for the nation's football,' he said in the post. Yesterday, local media reported that KDN FC had confirmed the club was ready to collaborate with Annuar Musa, who is also a prominent figure in Kelantan's football development, in efforts to revive the glory days of the nation's number one sport. On Sunday, former Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar reportedly warned that the M-League is now on the brink of crisis and risks collapse if immediate action is not taken, following the increasing number of teams facing financial difficulties. The official number of teams competing in the 2025/2026 Super League remains uncertain as the document review process for the National Licence application for next season is still ongoing, while media reports suggest several teams are expected to withdraw. For the record, KDN FC finished last in last season's Super League, collecting only seven points from 24 matches.

Desperation may see PN turn to GRS in Sabah polls, says analyst

A PAS leader has suggested that PN support GRS in the upcoming Sabah polls as PH and BN have already announced their own alliance. PETALING JAYA : Any decision by Perikatan Nasional to back Gabungan Rakyat Sabah at the coming state election will likely be driven by desperation, according to an analyst. University of Tasmania's James Chin said PN was 'very weak' in Sabah, with PAS unpopular in the state while most of Bersatu's elected representatives have defected to GRS. For that reason, he said, PN may have no choice but to work with GRS. PAS only holds one seat in the 79-seat state assembly, with its representative, Aliakbar Gulasan, among six nominated members of the legislative assembly. Play More than 10 of Sabah's Bersatu assemblymen quit the party during the 2023 'Kinabalu Move' incident and became direct members of GRS after the state polls, including chief minister Hajiji Noor (Sulaman), Masidi Manjun (Karanaan) and Rubin Balang (Kemabong). On Sunday, PAS deputy election director Annuar Musa said PN should support GRS in the upcoming Sabah polls as PH and BN have already announced their own alliance. Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, said PN should study the option of contesting under the GRS banner, or sit out the polls altogether. Sabah PN chairman Ronald Kiandee however criticised Annuar for his comments, saying he ought to have brought the matter up at the coalition's Supreme Council meeting before airing his views in public. Kiandee said Sabah's ever-shifting political landscape makes it challenging for any party, including PN, to take a firm stance on alliances. Chin however said that GRS was unlikely to link up with PN and would prefer an alliance with PH. PH could probably also help GRS rebuild ties with BN, he added. Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani, of strategic advisory firm ADA Southeast Asia, was on the same page as Chin, saying PAS and Bersatu's brand of politics would not resonate well with the Sabah electorate. After meeting Hajiji on Sunday, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism that the three coalitions could come to an electoral agreement. Anwar also said PH has given the GRS chairman its full support to lead discussions on the potential three-coalition alliance. Bilcher Bala of Universiti Malaysia Sabah suggested that, to sweeten the deal for GRS, PH-BN could offer key positions in the state government, assurances of autonomy in local governance, and a clear, mutually beneficial development agenda for Sabah. Meanwhile, Asrul said Hajiji might consider forming an alliance with PH-BN if Umno was willing to relinquish its claim to seats held by assemblymen who defied party orders to retract their support for Hajiji's administration in January 2023. Sabah Umno and GRS have been at odds ever since.

Sabah PN chief urges caution on GRS alliance

Sabah PN chairman Ronald Kiandee predicted that further realignment among parties could take place leading up to the Sabah polls. PETALING JAYA : Sabah Perikatan Nasional chairman Ronald Kiandee has told PAS leader Annuar Musa not to make hasty statements regarding the coalition's potential cooperation with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah for the upcoming state election. Speaking to FMT, Kiandee said Sabah's ever-shifting political landscape made it challenging for any party, including PN, to take a firm stance on alliances. Kiandee predicted there would be new developments related to a possible realignment involving GRS, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's call yesterday for the three coalitions to cooperate, in line with the collaboration at the federal level. Kiandee also asked if GRS component leaders would be willing to work with PH-BN as GRS chairman, Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor, had announced the possibility of the local coalition going solo in the state polls. 'Annuar should not have been so quick to comment because Sabah's political dynamics are always evolving. His statement has been overtaken by current developments,' said Kiandee. 'As the head of PN and Bersatu in Sabah, I've provided a detailed briefing on the current political situation in the state. 'Annuar should have passed on his proposal to PAS representatives to be discussed by the PN Supreme Council.' Annuar, the PAS deputy election director, said yesterday his personal view was that PN should support GRS in the upcoming state election since PH and BN had announced an electoral pact of their own. Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, also said he hoped that PN would study the option of contesting under the GRS banner, or even sit out the polls completely. On Friday, GRS threatened to go solo at the state polls if PH and BN finalised an electoral pact. Hajiji contended that local Sabah parties should be the backbone and head of the state government. PH chairman Anwar, who was in Sabah yesterday for talks with Hajiji, expressed optimism that PH, BN, and GRS could agree on cooperating ahead of the polls.

Annuar Musa urges PN to support GRS in Sabah polls

Published on: Sunday, May 11, 2025 Published on: Sun, May 11, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional should support Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming Sabah polls since Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have already announced their own alliance, says a PAS leader. PAS deputy election director Annuar Musa claimed that the PH-BN alliance was an indication that the federal government coalition aims to dominate Sabah's political landscape. Annuar, a former Umno secretary-general, also said the now-defunct Muafakat Nasional pact between Umno and PAS had believed that the local coalitions in Sabah and Sarawak should be supported rather than competed with. 'I hope that PN will consider supporting GRS. In fact, if necessary, we could study the option of contesting under the GRS banner or even stay out of the state elections. After all, GRS used to be part of PN as well,' he said in a Facebook post, adding that this was his personal view. Tuan Ibrahim says no 'moon' over Sabah Separately, Malaysiakini quoted PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying it was likely that the Islamic party would not be using its iconic 'moon' emblem in the Sabah polls. He said PAS would likely use the emblem of whichever party it teams up with. Tuan Ibrahim also mooted a grand coalition involving PN and local parties, such as GRS and Warisan, to take on BN-PH at the polls. Earlier, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the BN-PH alliance did not mean that the two coalitions did not want to work with local parties. On Friday, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said the party was ready to contest in the elections on its own if PH and BN have finalised their decision to cooperate for the state polls. However, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism today that PH, BN and GRS could agree on an election pact. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
