144 victims saved in CID crackdowns on human trafficking, says IGP

PETALING JAYA: Large-scale operations against human trafficking operations have seen over 100 victims rescued, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain. A total of 45 operations led to the arrest of 249 suspects, he said at the monthly assembly of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bukit Aman here on Wednesday (May 28). '(In all) 144 victims were saved from the net of human exploitation under Section 44 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007. 'The CID also recorded successes in the implementation of Operasi Cyber Guardian organised by the Singapore Police Force, involving Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. 'The operation that ran from Feb 28 to March 28 also focused on dismantling online sexual crimes against children. 'This operation then led to the arrest of four suspects, including a civil servant, as well as the seizure of over 50,000 items of child sexual abuse material (CSAM)." The IGP also commended the ongoing effort in battling illegal gambling via Operasi Dadu Khas. 'A total of 6,719 raids were conducted with 8,603 people arrested. 'We also seized 3,464 electrical devices, including computers and handphones, as well as RM1.6mil in cash,' he said.

SEMPORNA: Marine Police foiled two attempts by two speed boats to smuggle in migrants via Pulau Boheian waters on Sunday. Sabah Region Four Marine Commander, ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim, said the speed boats were apprehended in Ops Taring Gelora conducted in the areas. 'Inspection found that the speedboats were carrying 25 passengers attempting to enter the state without permission. 'The boat skipper admitted they were paid and from the Philippines and wanted to enter Semporn,' he said. Mohd Nazri said all those detained and the seizures estimated worth RM65,237 were taken to the Semporna Marine base for further action. He said both cases are being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. Advertisement He said human smuggling is a serious matter, especially in the east coast and the police always keep an eye on this matter. Marine Police will continue to intensify patrol and operation as well as taking stern action against any parties attempting to enter the state or involved in smuggling of migrants. KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department arrested 17 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh through Ops Serkap in Kota Bharu on Sunday (May 18). Its director Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the operation, which began at 4pm, involved 15 officers and members of the state immigration enforcement division. "Acting on intelligence, our party inspected foreigners around Pengkalan Chepa here, namely two houses around Taman Seri, a house in Batu 6 Tok Kaya and a kongsi in Mukim Pulau Gajah. "All the foreigners from Bangladesh are aged between 19 and 40 and have been sent to the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation," he said in a statement on Monday (May 19). He said 14 immigrants were suspected of infringing Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while three other immigrants believed to be agents are being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) 2007. - Bernama
