Indiana Fever Get Good News Amid Caitlin Clark's Injury Absence

Indiana Fever Get Good News Amid Caitlin Clark's Injury Absence originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever are in the midst of a concerning injury dilemma at the moment. Caitlin Clark is expected to miss at least two more games with a quad injury, including Tuesday's contest against the Washington Mystics. Advertisement To make matters worse, backup guard Sophie Cunningham has also been ruled out for Tuesday's home game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The 28-year-old, who joined Indiana as a free agent during the offseason, had to be helped off the court in the fourth quarter of the Fever's loss to the Connecticut Sun. Cunningham aggravated a right ankle injury that kept her out of Indiana's first two games of the season, and it now remains to be seen how much time she will miss with this new issue. The silver lining for the Fever is that they still got some good news on Monday ahead of the Mystics game. This came in the form of veteran guard Sydney Colson, who was deemed healthy enough to suit up for Tuesday's contest. The two-time WNBA champion had to exit the game in the first quarter with a leg injury and was not able to return. Advertisement There was some doubt surrounding Colson's status after her injury scare, but it now appears that she will be able to play on Tuesday and continue filling in for Clark in the starting five. It is also worth noting that the Fever signed 5-foot-6 guard Aari McDonald on Monday via an emergency hardship exception, and she, too, is available to play against the Mystics. Stephen A. Smith's 'Wishful' Giannis Antetokounmpo Theory After Tom Thibodeau Firing

Stephen A. Smith's 'Wishful' Giannis Antetokounmpo Theory After Tom Thibodeau Firing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Monday that Tom Thibodeau "has a lot going for him" in terms of returning as the team's head coach next season. Advertisement As it turns out, Charania was way off on that one. News hit on Tuesday that the Knicks had decided to fire Thibodeau following New York's heartbreaking Eastern Conference finals loss to the Indiana Pacers. The Knicks will now need to find a successor to the veteran shot-caller, who parts ways with the team after five memorable seasons. ESPN analyst and Knicks fan Stephen A. Smith has chimed in on the hot topic of the day. The renowned broadcaster decided to float a theory surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo--who has already been linked to a potential blockbuster trade to the Knicks--and the Milwaukee Bucks superstar's potential role in the Thibodeau decision. "I would hope that one of the other reasons this change is being made is because you got a superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo that wants to come to New York," Smith said. "And he would have desired changes, and he might have articulated that. Advertisement "That's just wishful fantasy kind of thinking on my part. I have no evidence of that whatsoever. I'm just throwing that in the mix." Smith made it clear, though, that this is nothing more than speculation from his end and that he has no factual basis behind the theory--at least not yet. "Maybe that's a good enough reason for you to go in a different direction from Tom Thibodeau because we need a different kind of coach, a coach with a different style," Smith continued. Advertisement "Maybe the players articulated that, 'You know what, we want to hear a new voice as well because we're tired of playing for Thibs.' We don't know definitively whether or not that was the case, but I can tell you in my experience covering the NBA, that's definitely plausible." View the original article to see embedded media. Smith ended his lengthy monologue by demanding to hear from team president Leon Rose as to why the team decided to go in this direction with regard to Thibodeau. "Still and all, Leon Rose needs to stand before the media and answer them damn questions for the public because the public has a right to know," Smith said. NBA Insider Floats Knicks Blockbuster Trade for Two-Time MVP After East Finals Loss

NBA Insider Floats Knicks Blockbuster Trade for Two-Time MVP After East Finals Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks were just two wins away from their first NBA Finals appearance in 26 years. Unfortunately for this storied franchise and its passionate fans, they still came up short. Advertisement The Indiana Pacers came out on top in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday, 125-108, thereby marking the end of what ultimately turned out to be a disappointing season for the Knicks. It will be a very intriguing offseason for this franchise as the front office decides whether or not they should come back next year with the same core or if it's time to shake things up. NBA insider Bill Simmons shared his thoughts on the Knicks' current dilemma, and the renowned league guru floated the idea of New York going all in on Giannis Antetokounmpo. There has been a lot of talk about Antetokounmpo's future with the Bucks as the two-time NBA MVP is linked to a potential move away from Milwaukee this summer. Simmons floated a hypothetical trade scenario wherein the Knicks land Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster three-team deal. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) controls the ball against New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby (8).Brad Penner-Imagn Images According to Simmons, the San Antonio Spurs will need to be the third team in this landscape-shifting trade. The Spurs would get either OG Anunoby or Mikal Bridges from the Knicks. Advertisement The Bucks, on the other hand, will receive Devin Vassell and multiple first-round picks from San Antonio. Milwaukee will also swap its cornerstone superstar with the Knicks for Karl-Anthony Towns. The big prize for New York is Antetokounmpo, who would be under contract through 2028. Simmons added, though, that the Knicks would also need to take on "a couple of contracts" as part of the deal, naming Pat Connaughton and Kyle Kuzma as additional pieces in the hypothetical trade. There's no denying that a trade of this magnitude would send shockwaves across the league. The Knicks will need to part ways with a number of significant assets, but they get the opportunity to pair Antetokounmpo with Jalen Brunson, making them a legitimate threat to the title for the next several years. Advertisement Simmons, however, added one major caveat. "I don't think this will happen because if I'm Milwaukee, I just wouldn't do it," he predicted. "I'd rather keep Giannis, take him into February (for the trade deadline). "And if we have to trade him then, I just feel like I have more leverage at that point. I wouldn't do it. I would not trade Giannis." Chicago Sky Star 'Done' With Angel Reese After Thursday's Antics

The Chicago Sky may have to work through chemistry problems just two games into the 2025 season. During Thursday night's game against the New York Liberty, All-Star forward Angel Reese failed to make a single shot despite being on the floor for 28 minutes. There was a moment where she refused to pass the ball to her teammates because she was hellbent on scoring in the paint. Advertisement Once Reese missed her third attempt, Sky center Kamilla Cardoso walked away from her teammates. Although she may have been getting a head-start on playing defense, it certainly came across as if she was fed up with Reese's antics. After all, Reese could've kicked the ball out to any of her teammates. Instead, she kept forcing the issue against the Liberty's ferocious defense. WNBA fans are convinced that Cardoso is done playing with Reese, albeit that hasn't been said by any reliable sources. Advertisement "Kamilla Cardoso is SO tired of watching this [expletive]," another fan said. "Kamilla need to get out of Chicago asap. Go somewhere where she dominate the post area. Angel in the way," a third fan commented. "Everyone been saying it. The team tries to play through the wrong player that it makes it miserable for everyone else. Good coaches / players don't force anything," a social media user pointed out. The Sky are now 0-2 this season, with both losses coming in blowout fashion. Next up for the Sky is a showdown with the Los Angeles Sparks. Perhaps they'll get in the win column this Sunday.
