Kalki Koechlin On Divorce With Anurag Kashyap: ‘It Was Hurtful To See Him With Someone Else'
Kalki Koechlin opens up about her painful divorce from Anurag Kashyap, linking it to the trauma of her parents' nasty separation. Kalki Koechlin has never shied away from confronting her past, whether through her art or candid interviews. In a recent conversation with Zoom, the actor opened up about the deep emotional scars from her childhood that she believes may have played a role in her eventual divorce from filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Kalki and Anurag, who tied the knot in 2011 after working together on the critically acclaimed Dev D, were married for four years before parting ways in 2015. Now, nearly a decade later, Kalki is peeling back the layers behind that chapter of her life. 'My parents' divorce when I was 13, and it was really bad," she shared. 'They were really nasty to each other and it was like cold and mean growing up between them. That was very tough. Maybe that's why I'm divorced." The actress explained how her formative years in a household marred by tension and bitterness may have shaped how she approached love and conflict in adulthood. 'There is a certain part of you that jeopardises relationships once they start turning bad, but you are like 'oh this happens' because you have witnessed that as a child," she said. 'I have witnessed as a child my parents separating and hating each other. A part of you loses the faith to walk through the worst." However, Kalki also emphasized that growth and healing are possible. 'Consciousness and therapy" have played a significant role in helping her rewire those early perceptions of love and separation. Through reflection and time, she's gained clarity. Opening up further about the difficult period post-divorce with Anurag, Kalki admitted, 'The first few years after the divorce were not easy for us. Then came a point when we were like 'we need to stay out of each other's lives' because it was hurtful to see the other person with somebody else, just the reminders are so strong." But like many relationships that begin with great intensity, theirs has found a quieter, more respectful rhythm over time. 'It does take a few years," she said. 'We didn't get to it immediately and distance helped. Now we are in a good place and we are able to catch up once in a while." Kalki was even present at the wedding celebrations of Anurag's daughter Aaliyah Kashyap last year, a gesture that marked the matured relationship they now share. Aaliyah is Anurag's daughter from his first marriage to editor Aarti Bajaj. From her breakthrough performance in Dev D to the evolution of her personal journey, Kalki Koechlin continues to engage with life's complexities with honesty and grace — proving that vulnerability, when embraced, can be a powerful force for growth. ‘Divorce with Anurag Kashyap was bitter initially, hurtful to see him with someone else': Kalki Koechlin recalls how parents' hated each other after ‘nasty' split
Actor Kalki Koechlin and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap were married for four years before they parted ways in 2015. In a recent interaction, Kalki hinted that her divorce might have stemmed from witnessing her parents' troubled relationship while growing up, and how their 'nasty' divorce made her more prone to jeopardizing her own relationships. Speaking to Zoom about how her understanding of relationships and love was shaped by her parents' difficult marriage, she said, 'My parents divorce when I was 13, and it was really bad. They were really nasty to each other and it was like cold and mean growing up between them. That was very tough. Maybe that's why I'm divorced.' Kalki admitted that growing up in such a toxic environment conditioned her to sabotage relationships. She said, 'There is a certain part of you that jeopardise relationships once they start turning bad, but you are like 'oh this happens' because you have witnessed that as a child. I have witnessed as a child my parents separating and hating each other. A part of you loses the faith to walk through the worst.' Kalki acknowledged that over time, 'consciousness and therapy' helped her overcome this conditioning and come to terms with her parents' divorce. She also opened up about her divorce from Anurag and how it was difficult for her to see him with someone else post-separation. Speaking about how it took time for them to be civil with one another after their divorce, she said, 'The first few years after the divorce were not easy for us. Then came a point when we were like 'we need to stay out of each other's lives' because it was hurtful to see the other person with somebody else, just the reminders are so strong.' She added, 'It does take a few years. We didn't get to it immediately and distance helped. Now we are in a good place and we are able to catch up once in a while.' Kalki was present at Anurag's daughter Aaliyah Kashyap's wedding last year. Aaliyah is Anurag's daughter from his first marriage with Aarti Bajaj. Kalki made her acting debut with Anurag's Dev D. Shortly after the release of Dev D, the two tied the knot in 2011. However, they parted ways in 2015.

Mohit Suri Wishes Anurag Basu, Kartik Aaryan Luck For Their Next: ‘But if Mahesh Bhatt Isn't…'
Mohit Suri reveals Anurag Basu had called him after he stepped down from the film starring Kartik Aaryan. He also talks about his equation with Anurag and how he looks up to him. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's Saiyaara's rampage at the box office continues, having broken records within its first weekend. It has not only grabbed the attention of the audience but also members from the film fraternity, who have taken to social media and heaped praises on the film. And one among them is Anurag Basu. On Saturday, the filmmaker wrote on X, 'Mohito!! Tight jhappi! You're an absolute rockstar! Hands down, this is your best work yet. I legit cried like a heartbroken teenager during the climax. Thank you for giving us two incredible actors! Bravo, maestro (sic)." Recently, Mohit Suri opened up about how the makers (T-Series) of Kartik Aaryan's untitled next had approached him to make the film, but he stepped down when they rushed him to announce it with the star cast. And that's when Anurag came into the picture. Mohit, on the other hand, began developing his own script, which went on to be produced by YRF as Saiyaara starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. And in March this year, reports started doing the rounds about similarities between both the film. Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Mohit reveals receiving a call from Anurag after he made an exit from the project. 'He told me that they had offered him the opportunity to make the sequel. He probably had a script in mind and they decided to make the film with him," he recalls. Touching upon the title row the film is embroiled in, he further adds, 'Now, what the equation between Bhushan (Kumar) ji and Mukesh (Bhatt) ji is, I don't know. Sometimes, they love each other and sometimes, they hate each other. That's between them." But it hasn't created any rift between Mohit and Anurag. In fact, he only has good wishes for Anurag's film in his heart. 'I call him dada. He's someone I had assisted. I had worked under him. It's not like he has stepped into something that was mine. I really look up to him. But I don't know what's happening there. I was too consumed with Saiyaara. I wish them all the luck and praise. But to be honest, I don't know if Aashiqui 3 is being made or not," Mohit says. But what bothers him is the absence of Mahesh Bhatt from the picture. 'For me, Aashiqui 2 wasn't just about the producers. It was also about what Mithoon, Ankit (Tiwari), Jeet (Gannguli) dada, Adi (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Shraddha (Kapoor) added to it. But most of all, it was about a man called Mahesh Bhatt who was a part of it. He started the Aashiqui franchise. He directed the first Aashiqui film. In a company that was only making thrillers, he pushed for me and allowed me to make a love story. Right now, he isn't in the milieu. And if he's not there, it's not Aashiqui for me," he asserts.
