Bareilly police seize 250 drones, warn of Gangster Act for spreading rumours
Amid the growing concerns over the unauthorised drone activity and widespread rumors causing panic, the Bareilly police have launched a major crackdown following strict directives from chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Acting swiftly on the CM's orders, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anurag Arya claimed to have seized 250 drones used at weddings and private events, and ordered legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation or inciting fear. To combat the spread of misinformation, police teams are actively visiting towns and villages to raise public awareness. (FOR REPRESENTATION) The SSP stated that the 250 confiscated drones have been deposited at various police stations across the district. Henceforth, flying drones—even for private events—will require prior written permission. The drones currently held in police custody will be released only after Rakshabandhan, and only upon submission of proper consent documents. He further warned that people spreading drone-related rumours and inciting public panic will face charges under the stringent Gangster Act. All station house officers (SHOs) and circle officers (COs) have been directed to closely monitor such incidents and take swift, decisive action whenever required. While the drone panic has largely been brought under control, police stated that rumors of thieves roaming villages continue to circulate in several rural pockets. The SSP noted that, in some cases, fearful villagers have attacked unfamiliar individuals. So far, five FIRs have been registered in connection with these such incidents, resulting in the arrest and imprisonment of 14 people. Additionally, one FIR has been filed related to drone-related misinformation, resulting in the incarceration of one individual. To combat the spread of misinformation, police teams are actively visiting towns and villages to raise public awareness. Residents are being urged not to trust unverified claims about drone sightings or reports of thieves. In case of any suspicious activity, the public is advised to immediately inform the local police station or dial the emergency helpline 112. Authorities have assured that police will respond swiftly and take appropriate action on the ground. 4 held for assaulting Nepalese woman In a separate incident under the jurisdiction of Qila police station, four people were arrested for brutally assaulting a Nepalese woman, who they mistakenly believed to be a thief. The woman had come to visit a male acquaintance on Friday night but was tied to a pole and beaten with sticks by locals. She suffered multiple broken teeth and a fractured right was admitted to the district hospital, where her condition is now reported to be stable. All four accused have been taken into custody and sent to jail. The SSP firmly reiterated that mob justice will not be tolerated and those taking the law into their own hands will face strict legal consequences. He urged citizens to remain calm and act responsibly, especially during the festive season. Emphasising the ongoing crackdown on unauthorized drone use and strong measures against those spreading rumors, the SSP stated that the Bareilly Police are committed to maintaining peace, order, and public safety throughout the district.

Crackdown on group targeting, harassing women spotted with men of other communities in public places: Police
THE UTTAR Pradesh Police are collecting information and identifying members of a group of young men belonging to a particular community that is allegedly targeting and harassing young women and girls spotted with men of other communities in public places such as parks. Police said on Wednesday that the group members allegedly approach girls in public when they are seen with youths purportedly from another community, confront them in a manner that makes them uncomfortable and record videos while making comments about 'modesty'. These videos are later uploaded on social media, often accompanied by objectionable language. The group, which identifies itself as 'Haidri Dal Bareilly' on social media, came under the radar of the Bareilly police over three weeks ago, after a video surfaced online. Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya said they had earlier received information that a group of youths was harassing girls seen in public with men from other religions. Most of the time, by the time police reached the spot, the youths had already fled after recording videos and making remarks. A case was registered in the matter at the Kotwali police station by police. The police have ensured that the videos have been deleted from social media. He added that the police were eventually able to track down the group and have so far arrested five of its members—all in their 20s. Four youths were arrested about two weeks ago, while the fifth was taken into custody yesterday. Police said they are making arrests as the identities of the accused are revealed. During investigation, police discovered that another group had created an Instagram ID under the name 'Haidri Dal 25' and was also engaging in similar activities. The SSP said the fifth accused was operating an Instagram account under the name 'Haidri Dal 25'. He had created the instagram account. Police also found that the group was collecting funds from its members, with the money being deposited into two bank accounts, both of which have now been seized, said SSP. On June 7, the police received information about a video circulating on social media. Upon verification, they found that the video had been shared on Instagram through an account whose bio mentioned 'Haidri Dal Bareilly'. The video appeared to have been recorded at Gandhi Udyan, a public park. In it, a few young men from a particular community are seen stopping girls from their own community who were in the company of men from another religion. The Muslim men can be heard making remarks about modesty and objecting to the girls interacting with youth of a different faith. Police said the girls appeared visibly uncomfortable and unsafe in the video. Based on a complaint filed by sub-inspector Nitin Rana, an FIR was lodged against unknown persons at the Kotwali police station. The case was filed under BNS sections 353 (Statements conducing to public mischief), 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 79 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 126 (Wrongful restraint). Police identified two of the accused, Sehbaz alias Sufiyan and Sameer Raza, who were allegedly involved in recording the video. They were arrested and sent to jail. Based on information provided by the arrested persons, police later identified two others who had uploaded the video along with making objectionable comments on it. They were identified as Jaish, a Unani student, and Shanu, an engineering student, said circle officer, Bareilly, Ashutosh Shivam. On Tuesday, police arrested 20-year-old Nabi Hasan, a local resident studying at a madrasa in Shahjahanpur, who had allegedly created an Instagram ID 'Haidari Dal 25.' He was also reportedly involved in unlawful activities, including sharing objectionable and provocative content and spreading misinformation aimed at inciting unrest. During an inspection of his cellphone, police reportedly found video footage showing Nabi Hasan sexually harassing a minor boy. The police also booked him under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with charges of criminal intimidation and other offences, said a police officer. It was found during investigation that Nabi Hasan had allegedly threatened the victim. Ashutosh Shivam said they have identified two more persons of the group and efforts are on to trace and arrest them. All arrested accused are in jail.

In Bareilly, Pakistan woman booked for forging Aadhaar, ration cards
A Pakistani national living in Bareilly on a long-term visa (LTV) has been charged with obtaining forged identity documents, including the Aadhaar and ration cards. A formal FIR has been lodged against the woman, identified as Farhat Sultana, at the Baradari police station of the district, officials confirmed. The matter came to light during an ongoing verification drive, initiated on the instructions of senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anurag Arya, that aimed at identifying people from Pakistan and Bangladesh, and the Rohingya community illegally living in the district. Sub-inspector Saurabh Tomar, posted at the Baradari police station, filed the complaint after uncovering the fraudulent documents during routine checks under Operation Khoj. According to the FIR, Farhat entered India on an LTV and settled in the Sufi Tola locality of Baradari after marrying a local resident, Shahid Khalil. Exploiting her status and manipulating official records, Farhat managed to obtain an Aadhaar card using fake information. She went a step further by portraying herself as the head of a family to get a ration card issued in her name, thereby gaining access to subsidized food grains and other officials are now investigating how a foreign national, who has not been granted Indian citizenship, managed to procure official Indian identification documents. The involvement of local officials or agents in facilitating the creation of these forged documents is also under scrutiny. SSP Anurag Arya said, 'Following the details secured under Operation Khoj, an FIR has been registered against a Pakistani national living in Bareilly on a long-term visa under BNS section 318(4) (cheating) and section 17 of the Citizenship Act, 1955. The entire matter is being investigated in detail. Strict legal action will be taken not only against the Pakistani national but also against those who assisted her in committing this fraud.'

Another train sabotage attempt foiled in UP; probe underway
A potential train accident was averted late Sunday night in Bareilly district, after a group of vigilant railway staff detected tampering with track infrastructure near Dohna station. The incident marks the latest in a series of sabotage attempts across Uttar Pradesh. Senior superintendent of police Anurag Arya stated that a special team has been constituted to identify and apprehend those responsible. According to officials, the incident occurred around 11:55 pm on June 1, when the crew of the 05307 Tanakpur-Bareilly City passenger train noticed irregularities on the track and promptly halted the train. On inspection, they discovered that miscreants had stuffed ballast, the crushed stones used to stabilise railway tracks between the tongue rail and stock rail, effectively jamming the point mechanism, which guides trains safely between tracks. Additionally, the earthing plate, a vital component connecting the Overhead Equipment (OHE) to the Switch Expansion Joint Rail (SWJR), was found bent. The SWJR is critical for allowing rails to expand and contract with temperature variations while maintaining track integrity. Station master Bhupinder Arora of Dohna reported the sabotage to higher authorities via a memo. The Izzatnagar division of North Eastern Railway confirmed the incident and lodged an FIR at Bhojipura station under Section 150 of the Indian Railway Act, which deals with malicious acts intended to wreck trains. This latest attempt is part of a disturbing trend in the region. On May 31, loco-pilots of the 64021 Delhi–Shamli MEMU train narrowly avoided a mishap when they spotted an iron pipe, ballast, and broken concrete obstructing the tracks near Shamli station. Similarly, on the night of May 29–30, ballast was found on the tracks between Bheerpur and Meja Road in Prayagraj, targeting the New Delhi–Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express (22824). Earlier on May 19, two more sabotage attempts were reported near Dalelnagar and Umar Tali stations in Hardoi district, where wooden logs were placed on the tracks to derail the Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504) and Kathgodam Express (15044).

Seventh train sabotage attempt averted in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: Averting yet another incident of suspected sabotage, the alert loco-pilots and the train manager of Tanakpur-Bareilly City passenger train spotted trouble on the tracks and acted swiftly to prevent a potential disaster on June 1. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident took place on the railway tracks near Dohna station in Bareilly. It was the seventh such incident in the state this summer. The culprits, still unidentified, had tampered with the point mechanism, a system that guides trains between tracks at junctions. They stuffed ballast—the crushed stones that stabilize railway tracks—between the tongue rail and stock rail, jamming the mechanism designed to ensure smooth train transitions. The tongue rail, a tapered, movable rail that fits snugly against the fixed stock rail (of the main track), was left inoperable, threatening to derail the train by disrupting its path. Adding to the sabotage, the unidentified miscreants bent the earthing plate, a flat metal component connecting the overhead equipment (OHE) to the switch expansion joint rail (SWJR). The SWJR allows rails to expand and contract with temperature changes while maintaining the switch's functionality. Station master Bhupinder Arora of Dohna station reported the incident via a memo, prompting immediate action. The Northeastern Railway's Izzatnagar division confirmed the sabotage, and an FIR was filed at Bhojipura station under Section 150 of the Railway Act (malicious attempts to wreck trains). Senior superintendent of police Anurag Arya said that a team has been formed to track down those responsible for this dangerous act. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On May 31, loco-pilots of the 64021 Delhi-Shamli MEMU train averted disaster when they spotted a 12-foot iron pipe, ballast, and a broken concrete tube placed on the tracks near Shamli station. Before that, on the intervening night May 29-30, an attempt to derail the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express (22824) was foiled after ballast was found on the tracks between Bheerpur and Meja Road in Prayagraj. In the same month, two attempts to derail Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504) and Kathgodam Express (15044) were recorded on May 19, near Dalelnagar and Umar Tali stations of Hardoi district, when an unknown person had kept wooden log on rail track.
