Apad revokes licence of lorry company involved in accident which killed nine FRU members

PUTRAJAYA: The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has revoked the licence of the operator of the stone-laden lorry company involved in an accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, on May 13. The revocation of Tashveen Trading's operator license is effective May 29, 2025. "With the revocation of the operator's license, the company is not permitted to operate or provide any services using any vehicles licensed under that operator's license," Apad stated in a press release on Friday (May 30). Apad's investigation also found that the company failed to comply with the Industrial Code of Practice safety requirements, failed to ensure the global positioning system was functional and had expired, was carrying loads that violated the type of goods specified in the vehicle's permit and did not prioritise the safety of other road users. Apad emphasised that it would never compromise on any dangerous driving offences by public land transport vehicles that cause accidents and can threaten the safety of road users. "Apad also wishes to advise all licensed operators to comply with the license conditions set to avoid undesirable incidents, which could then lead to license revocation," Apad said. In the 8.50am incident on May 13, an FRU lorry carrying 18 personnel from Unit 5, based in Sungai Senam, Ipoh, was involved in a collision with a stone-laden lorry while on its way back after completing duties for the Chitrapournami celebration in Teluk Intan. The accident also resulted in two serious injuries and seven other injuries. – Bernama

The accident on May 13 involved a gravel-laden lorry and a FRU truck transporting personnel who were returning from a security deployment in Ipoh. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has revoked the operating licence of the company linked to a May 13 crash that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) men. In a statement today, Apad said its investigations revealed that Tashveen Trading had committed multiple safety breaches, including transporting goods not authorised under its vehicle permit. Apad said the company also failed to comply with its Industry Code of Practice (ICOP), was operating with a non-functional and expired GPS tracking system, and did not provide access to essential operational records, 'Following these findings, Apad's license suspension and cancellation committee yesterday decided to revoke the company's operator license with immediate effect,' it said. 'The company is now barred from operating or providing services using any vehicle previously authorised under the licence. 'Apad does not tolerate dangerous driving practices involving public transport vehicles that threaten road users' safety.' The crash occurred when a gravel-laden lorry collided with a FRU truck transporting personnel who were returning from a security deployment in Ipoh. The driver of the lorry had previously claimed trial to nine charges of causing death by reckless driving.

ECRL's longest tunnel in Southeast Asia set for breakthrough next month

KUANTAN: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is poised to achieve a significant milestone next month, with the breakthrough of the Genting Tunnel — Southeast Asia's longest rail tunnel — expected by the end of June. Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said only 200m remained of the tunnel's full length of 16.39km. "We're making excellent progress… with just 200m left, we anticipate the Genting Tunnel breakthrough by the end of June. We are on track," he told reporters at the ECRL KotaSAS Central Station today. Darwis said this after officiating the first article assessment ceremony, which marked the successful installation of communication, information, and signalling (CIS) systems at the KotaSAS station — the first along the ECRL alignment to complete this critical phase. Construction of the twin-bore Genting Tunnel, a core component of the ECRL, began in June 2022. Excavation works have utilised two state-of-the-art, China-made tunnel boring machines (TBMs) — the largest ever deployed for a rail project in Southeast Asia. The tunnel traverses the Titiwangsa Range via Bukit Tinggi, connecting Bentong in Pahang to Gombak in Selangor. On the subject of ticket pricing for the ECRL, Darwis said the matter fell under the jurisdiction of the Transport Ministry and the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad). "It's premature to discuss ticket fares at this stage. Pricing will be determined by the Transport Ministry and Apad," he said, adding that Transport Minister Anthony Loke had previously assured the public that fares would remain affordable. Darwis was responding to remarks made by Pahang assemblyman Datuk Wong Tat Chee, who used an artificial intelligence (AI) tool — ChatGPT — to estimate hypothetical ticket prices. Wong had suggested a fare of about 10 sen per kilometre during last month's state assembly sitting. Separately, Darwis welcomed a recent announcement by the Pahang state government expressing its readiness to implement high-impact development projects surrounding all seven ECRL stations within the state. "We've been informed that the state government will prioritise infrastructure and public facilities within a 15km radius of each ECRL station. "The 258km alignment within Pahang includes seven stations — Cherating and KotaSAS will serve passengers only, while Kuantan Port City, Paya Besar, Maran, Temerloh, and Bentong will handle both passenger and cargo traffic," he said. On May 7, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail announced plans for transit-oriented development (TOD) around the stations , incorporating housing, commercial, and educational zones. The ECRL project, which spans Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor, is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026, with operations slated to begin in January 2027.

Apad: Late applications behind Smart Selangor bus being halted

KUALA LUMPUR: The temporary suspension of the Smart Selangor bus service along five routes under the Subang Jaya City Council was not due to delays in processing the relevant applications, according to the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad). Instead, Apad said it was due to the late submission of applications by the operator, SKS Coachbuilders Sdn Bhd. In a statement, the agency said its investigation found that the company only submitted the relevant applications on April 25 and 26. Apad confirmed receiving five applications, all of which were processed under standard operating procedures, assessment criteria and approval conditions. They were then tabled at the Licensing Committee Meeting (eJKP) on May 8, receiving conditional approval. 'Apad stresses that the new permit applications were processed within 14 working days, in line with the agency's client charter. 'However, the applicant failed to meet several key requirements, including compliance with GPS installation standards and the submission of valid approval offer letters. 'As a result, conditional approval was granted, pending full compliance,' it said, Bernama reported. Apad confirmed that SKS Coachbuilders fulfilled all required criteria and conditions by May 15. The company received full approval at the eJKP meeting on May 22, following which they were authorised to begin printing the approval offer letters via Apad's iSPKP system from May 23. Residents and commuters in Subang Jaya were left inconvenienced by the sudden suspension of services on routes SJ01, SJ02, SJ03, SJ04 and SJ05, forcing many to seek alternative transport options and incurring additional costs. Claims had surfaced alleging that the disruption was due to delays by Apad in processing the operator's application, which reportedly took nearly two months. However, Apad clarified that the delay was due to the late submission and non-compliance with key requirements by the operator. Apad added that it remains committed to delivering fair and transparent licensing services. 'Therefore, all public and freight transport operators are reminded to strictly comply with the established criteria and conditions. 'Adherence is essential not only to safeguard their operations but also to prevent disruptions that adversely affect commuters who rely on these services daily,' the agency said.

Smart Selangor bus suspension due to late application, regulator says

KUALA LUMPUR: The temporary suspension of the Smart Selangor bus service along five routes under the Subang Jaya City Council was not due to delays in processing by the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), the regulator says. Rather, it said, the operator SKS Coachbuilders Sdn Bhd had been late in submitting its permit application, only handing them in on April 25 and 26, leading to the council announcing the service's suspension on May 2. Apad confirmed receiving five applications, which were processed under standard operating procedures, assessment criteria and approval conditions, and then tabled at the Licensing Committee Meeting (eJKP) on May 8, receiving conditional approval. "However, the applicant failed to meet several key requirements, including compliance with GPS installation standards and the submission of valid approval offer letters.
