Sunny Deol And Bobby Deol's Apne 2 Script Is Ready; Anil Sharma Recalls Dharamendra 'Cried'
Last Updated: Anil Sharma reveals Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol got convinced to do Apne in two hours. He adds that his association with Dharmendra dates back to The Burning Train. Apne that released in 2007 saw Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol come together onscreen for the first time. The film opened well at the box office and its sequel titled Apne 2 was officially announced in November 2020. It was also supposed to star Sunny's son Karan Deol. It was reported to go on floors in March 2021 with a theatrical release scheduled for 5 November, 2021. But following a long delay, it seems like there's finally an update on the film. Speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, director Anil Sharma shares an interesting development. 'Apne 2 is definitely happening. The scripting is already done. I've too many scripts with me right now. Main laga huwa hoon ki sab kar sakoon," he tells us. It, however, may not be his immediate next directorial venture post Vanvaas as the filmmaker has his hands full with Gadar 3, an action film starring his son Utkarsh Sharma and a love story that he has been wanting to make for a while. Looking back at the time when Anil took the story of Apne to the Deol trio, he reveals that all three of them got convinced within a matter of two hours. 'It wasn't difficult to convince them to come together for Apne. All three of them wanted to do a film together and they wanted me to make it. The day the story of Apne came to me, they were overjoyed. When I narrated the story to Dharam ji, he cried. When Bobby heard the script, he hugged me," he shares. And with Dharmendra and Bobby already giving a positive nod to the film, Sunny also agreed readily. 'When Sunny heard that his father and his brother have agreed to do the film, he also got interested. He heard their feedbacks of the script, then heard it and immediately said yes. My relationship with the Deols is great, even off-screen. We've that bond wherein we can confide in each other. Humaare beech bahot pyaar aur mohabbat hai," says the Veer and Singh Saab The Great maker. As a filmmaker, Anil had first collaborated with Dharmendra in his 1987 directorial outing, Hukumat. But the first time that they ever met was on the sets of BR Chopra and Ravi Chopra's The Burning Train where Anil served as an assistant director. 'During The Burning Train, I had first connected with him and Hema (Malini) ji. But connections don't work in the film industry. Connections apni jagah hai. Every time you want to work with an actor, you've to narrate the script to them," he states. Emphasising on how it wasn't just his personal equation with Dharmendra that led them to work on Elaan-E-Jung, Farishtey and Tahalka over the years, Anil adds, 'Aap ke kaam se aadmi aap se judta hai. What connection helps you with is access. Whether they end up saying yes to your film or not depends on how good the material is. But god has been kind to me. That coupled with my desire to work in the movies gave me the opportunity to work with actors like Dharam ji." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
