Menfi receives Putin's invitation to attend Arab-Russian Summit

The Presidential Council (PC) head, Mohamed Menfi, has received an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the upcoming Arab-Russian Summit, due to take place in mid-October. The invitation was delivered by Russia's ambassador to Libya, Haidar Rashid Aghanin, during a meeting in Tripoli on Tuesday. According to the PC's media office, the ambassador presented the letter on behalf of the Russian leadership. The two sides also discussed recent security developments in Tripoli. Both stressed the importance of supporting the council's efforts to maintain the ceasefire and promote national stability. Talks covered economic cooperation, regional stability, and the upcoming Arab-Russian Summit, which Al-Sudani signalled his intent to attend. Discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in multiple sectors, including the Development Road project and Russian transit route initiatives. Bogdanov conveyed Putin's greetings and reaffirmed Russia's commitment to activating bilateral agreements and preparing for the tenth Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee meeting. That meeting was attended from the Russian side by the First Deputy Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Maxim Maximov, the Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, Mr. Elbrus Kotrashev, the Special Representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Mr. Sergey Afanasyev, the Vice President of Gazprom, Mr. Anton Galabov, and representatives of the company. From the Ministry side, it was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Basem Muhammad Khader, the Director General of the Reservoirs and Fields Development Department, Mr. Karim Yasser, and the Director General of the Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Department (PCLD), Mr. Basem Taher. Shafaq News/ Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani expressed his initial approval, on Wednesday, to participate in the Arab-Russian Summit. The Prime Minister's Office stated Al-Sudani received today, the Special Envoy of the Russian President to the Middle East and North Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, where bilateral relations between Iraq and the Russian Federation were discussed, and ways to develop them in various fields. The statement added, "the meeting witnessed a review of regional and international situations, and efforts seeking to support stability in the region." Al-Sudani expressed his initial approval to participate in the Arab-Russian Summit, 'due to its importance in achieving common interests." During the meeting, he stressed the government's desire to develop relations between the two countries and expand the horizons of cooperation in various fields, stressing "the need to enhance cooperation on the development road project and Russian projects on transit routes; in order to achieve mutual benefit and develop common interests." For his part, Bogdanov conveyed to Al-Sudani the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the desire of his country's government to activate bilateral memoranda of understanding, in preparation for the tenth meeting of the Iraqi-Russian Joint Committee, which will be held soon, and 'which will undertake the tasks of implementing the agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries."

The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received today, the Special Envoy of the Russian President to the Middle East and North Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, where bilateral relations between Iraq and the Russian Federation were discussed, and ways to develop them in various fields." He added, "The meeting witnessed a review of regional and international situations, and efforts seeking to support stability in the region." The Prime Minister expressed his "initial approval to participate in the Arab-Russian Summit, which will be hosted by the Russian Federation soon; due to its importance in achieving common interests." During the meeting, he stressed "the government's desire to develop relations between the two countries and expand the horizons of cooperation in various fields," stressing "the need to enhance cooperation on the development road project and Russian projects on transit routes; in order to achieve mutual benefit and develop common interests."
