Armenia Praises Kuwait While Forging Bold New Gulf Partnerships

KUWAIT CITY, July 22: Amid accelerating regional movements and aspirations to strengthen relations with the Gulf states, Armenian Ambassador to Kuwait Dr. Arsen Arakelyan affirmed that Armenia continues to toe the path of peace and openness, welcoming the balanced Arab role, especially the Emirati mediation aimed at ending the conflict with Azerbaijan, reports Al-Seyassah / Arab Times daily. In an exclusive interview with the daily, Arakelyan – who put emphasis on strengthening the partnership with Kuwait – talked about prospects for economic and tourism cooperation, historical relations between the two countries, and appreciation of his country for Kuwait's hosting of the Armenian community for more than seven decades. Arakelyan affirmed that his country is open to peace and investment efforts, and puts importance on strengthening its relations with Kuwait and other Gulf states. He praised the strong ties between Yerevan and Kuwait, describing them as 'historical relations built on mutual respect and understanding.' He added, 'Kuwait was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia following independence, a position highly appreciated by the Armenian leadership and people.' He also praised the tolerant environment that Kuwait has been providing for the Armenian community since the 1950s. He asserted that 'Kuwait has embraced our citizens for decades and provided them with an environment conducive for living and working. We are always appreciative and grateful for this.' Regarding the economic situation, he cited the successful investment experiences of Kuwaiti and Gulf investors in his country. He stressed that Armenia welcomes more economic partnerships, especially in agriculture, industry, and trade sectors, which are promising areas within the national development plans. On the launching of direct flights between Kuwait and the Armenian capital -- Yerevan, Arakelyan believes this step will contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, expand the horizons of tourism and trade exchange, and facilitate the movement of businesspersons between the two countries. He added, 'Armenia is an attractive destination that welcomes Kuwaiti investors and tourists.' Talking about the regional issue, he confirmed the diplomatic efforts led by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the aim of reaching an inclusive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He stated, 'There are serious efforts to end the tension and open a new page. We hope that they will result in the signing of a final peace agreement through the fair Emirati mediation. We highly value this responsible role and the balanced approach of the UAE in supporting regional stability.' On his country's relations with neighboring countries, Arakelyan emphasized that the relationship between Armenia and Iran is 'stable and it is managed rationally and responsibly in the interest of both parties.' He denied the existence of hostile practices from the Iranian side toward his country, underscoring the importance of dialogue as a means of maintaining regional stability.

Supermarket eggs hatch a fluffy surprise in home kitchen

Published on: Sunday, July 20, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jul 20, 2025 Text Size: Some of the hatched eggs. QINGDAO: A woman here recently got the surprise of her life when she returned from a two-day trip to find 70 fluffy chicks chirping around her kitchen, Arab Times reported. The uninvited guests were not bought from a farm, but hatched from 90 supermarket eggs she had left in cartons before leaving. Advertisement She suspected the unusually high summer temperatures in Qingdao triggered the early hatching. Most grocery store eggs are infertile, making such an occurrence highly unusual. Rather than panic, she and her family sprang into action, creating a makeshift shelter out of old sweaters and feeding the chicks warm rice broth using syringes. Against all odds, every single chick survived, proving that even grocery store eggs can occasionally pull off a miracle. Her son quickly claimed two chicks as new household companions, while the rest were sent to live with her parents in the countryside. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Know Your Legal Rights in Kuwait: Absconding Threats After Termination

Dear Arab Times legal team I was terminated by my previous employer, with my last working day being May 2, 2025. Fortunately, I secured new employment right away and began working with my current company on May 4, 2025. I'm presently in the middle of my 100-working-day probation period and have completed around 2.5 months so far. However, the HR manager from my former company is now threatening to file an absconding case against me if I don't transfer my residency by the end of this week. Given that I was officially terminated (and have a termination letter as proof), can she legally take such action? And if she proceeds with filing an absconding report, what steps should I take to protect myself? Answer: No, your ex-employer cannot legally file an absconding case if: You were terminated (which you were — and have a termination letter). You are not illegally absent, i.e., you did not disappear from work without notice. However, some unethical companies do abuse the absconding system to pressure former employees. Here's how it works and what you can do. Kuwait Labor Law Overview (Private Sector): 1. Residency & Work Permit Transfer: After termination, the employer is legally obligated to cancel your work permit or transfer it to a new employer within 90 days of the permit expiry or cancellation notice. You are not considered "absconding" if your old employer terminated you and you have documentation. 2. Absconding Case (Article 42 of the Labor Law): The law allows an employer to report an employee only if the employee stopped reporting to work without informing them and has not been found for 7 consecutive days. You were terminated, and you have a termination letter. You're working for a new company. Therefore, this doesn't apply. 3. The Threat: If your ex-HR manager files an absconding case despite terminating you, she's making a false report, which is illegal under Kuwaiti law. However, you must act fast to protect yourself. What You Should Do Now: 1. Transfer Your Residency ASAP: You're nearing the 90-day mark. Your new employer must complete the residency transfer this week if possible. This will close the door to any threats. 2. Keep All Evidence Safe: Your termination letter, WhatsApp chats or emails, your new work contract, and anything showing you're currently working — keep them ready. 3. Visit Shoon (Ministry of Labor): If she files an absconding case, go immediately to the Labor Ministry or Immigration and present your termination letter and proof of new employment. The case can be canceled if proven false, and hers can be legally challenged. 4. Have Your New Company HR Assist: Ask your current employer's HR to expedite your transfer and help in case anything is reported. They can also provide documentation showing your employment started May 4, 2025. .

Journalism needs presence on digital platforms: Al-Jarallah

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: Dean of Kuwaiti journalism and Editor-in-Chief of Al-Seyassah and Arab Times newspapers Ahmed Al-Jarallah received a delegation of female students from the College of Business Administration at Kuwait University in the headquarters of the newspapers on Monday. The visit was part of a field trip to media institutions organized by the college for its students to learn about the work environments in these institutions. It is included in the applied university project titled 'Between Paper and Screen.' Al-Jarallah briefed the delegation of students (consisting of Dana Al-Rifai and Fatima Al-Yaqout, who are majoring in Accounting and Marketing) on the history of Al-Seyassah's founding and some of the pivotal milestones in his journalistic career. He stressed that 'successful media work necessitates institutional vision, discipline, and a team that deeply and professionally believes in the media message.' He also addressed the transformations in the media landscape in the age of technology and social media; emphasizing that journalism today is no longer limited to paper, but rather requires an intelligent and integrated presence on digital platforms. He said 'media institutions must balance the solidity of print content with the speed of online interaction.' He called on the young generation of journalists to 'keep pace with these changes without losing the spirit and ethics of the profession.' He then offered the students a set of tips drawn from his extensive experience; underscoring the importance of 'combining academic study with practical experience, especially in the fields of management and media.' On the other hand, the students expressed their happiness over this experience. They pointed out that they chose Al-Seyassah and Arab Times newspapers 'because they are among the most prominent media institutions in Kuwait and the Gulf, and because of the distinguished reputation of Dean of Kuwaiti Journalism Ahmed Al-Jarallah's leadership, as well as his rich and inspiring professional experience. After the meeting, Al-Jarallah affirmed his full support for youth and student initiatives. He said 'The newspaper's doors are always open to all those who want to learn, take initiative and innovate in their field.'
