Saudi haj security forces at full preparedness for smooth pilgrimage

MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia's Haj Security Forces are at the highest level of preparedness to ensure the safety of nearly two million pilgrims in the Holy Land and the smooth running of the 2025/1446 haj season. This assurance came from the Director of Public Security and Chairman of the Haj Security Committee, Lieutenant General Mohammad Abdullah Al-Bassami, who stressed that the security forces would not hesitate to take firm action to maintain a safe environment for pilgrims to fulfil their religious obligations. During a security forces parade last night, held just days before wukuf, Mohammad also said the Haj Security Forces are on high alert to respond to any threats or challenges that may affect the haj pilgrimage. Saudi Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Haj Committee, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, was also present to inspect the Haj Security Forces' readiness in carrying out field duties and ensuring the safety and protection of pilgrims. The parade featured personnel from various agencies, alongside displays of security assets such as vehicles, machinery, and advanced equipment. At the event, which also served as a training platform, a variety of security threat simulations were carried out, highlighting the efficiency and preparedness of the security forces in managing and neutralising threats. The Saudi government had previously announced that the annual haj pilgrimage would begin this Wednesday, with Arafah Day on Thursday, followed by Aidiladha on the next day. It was previously reported that Saudi Minister of Haj and Umrah, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, reiterated that ensuring pilgrims' safety while performing the fifth pillar of Islam remains a top priority, especially as temperatures during the current haj season are expected to reach up to 45 degrees Celsius. The Health Ministry has confirmed five cases of heat exhaustion among pilgrims as temperatures continue to rise. Health teams are on standby to respond swiftly to such cases, as part of the government's commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of pilgrims. According to Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Statistics, a total of 1,833,164 Muslims from around the world are expected to perform the haj this year. Of this number, 1,611,310 are international pilgrims, while 221,854 are local pilgrims.

HRH Crown Prince Issues Circular Announcing Eid Al-Adha Holidays for Public Sector

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, today issued an official circular outlining the public sector holidays for the upcoming Arafah Day and Eid Al-Adha. According to the circular, all ministries and public institutions across the Kingdom will be closed from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8, in observance of Arafah Day and the three days of Eid Al-Adha. As part of Bahrain's policy to compensate for public holidays falling on weekends, the circular also stated that Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10, will be official holidays in lieu of the weekend overlap with Friday and Saturday. The announcement allows public sector employees a six-day holiday period to mark one of the most significant religious occasions in the Islamic calendar. Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command. The holiday is observed by Muslims worldwide with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

Private sector employees in the UAE will receive a four-day holiday for the upcoming Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha in June, starting from 9 Dhul Hijjah, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced on Wednesday. Employees will begin their holiday on 9 Dhul Hijjah, corresponding to Thursday, June 5, and it will continue through 12 Dhul Hijjah (1446 AH), ending on Sunday, June 8. As a result, private sector employees will enjoy a four-day break in observance of Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha, which includes the weekend. Official work will resume on Monday, 9 June 2025. The announcement follows the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent on Tuesday evening, which indicated that the last month of the Islamic calendar would start on Wednesday, May 28. The Dhul Hijjah crescent was spotted by astronomers on several instances on Tuesday, UAE's Astronomy Centre said. Public sector employees will also get similar days of holidays. A unified holiday policy implemented in the UAE for public and private sector workers ensures all employees get equal breaks throughout the year. Eid Al Adha, also known as the 'Festival of Sacrifice,' commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the traditional sacrifice of livestock, with meat shared among family, friends, and those in need.
