‘Shah Rukh Khan said your son has my hair, Hrithik Roshan said he has my eyes,' Archana Puran Singh recalls Parmeet Sethi's stern reaction to their comments

Archana Puran Singh and her family's YouTube channel has been blowing up for the past few months and her sons – Aaryamann and Ayushmaan have developed a fan following thanks to all the family vlogs. In a recent vlog shared on their channel, Archana recalled the time when she visited Shah Rukh Khan's house Mannat for Aryan Khan's birthday party. She shared that after meeting her son Aaryamann, Shah Rukh found that their hair looked alike, and later when Hrithik Roshan walked in, he found that Ayushmann had his eyes. Both these reactions prompted her husband Parmeet Sethi to give her a stern look. She shared, 'We once went to Mannat when these kids were younger to attend Shah Rukh's son Aryan's birthday party. So Shah Rukh met my son and said, 'His hair are exactly like mine' and went away, and Bittoo (Parmeet) looked at me like… Next, Hrithik Roshan comes and he looks at Ayushmann and says, 'His eyes are exactly like mine' and Bittoo again looked at me…' Archana then shared that both her sons look exactly like Parmeet. Archana shared in the video, 'Humare ghar mein hi competition hai (There's competition within the house.)' Parmeet also endorsed his channel and praised his son's efforts. Apart from the second YouTube channel from Ayushmann, Ayushmaan has also started a clothing app and has been promoting it quite actively through his social media. During a recent vlog shared from their trip to Dubai, Archana shared that her sons did not understand the concept of money when they were younger as they often bought things with a card. 'Both Aryamann and Ayushmaan were little at the time. We were in Singapore and had walked into a toy store. Ayushmaan, who was really tiny back then, grabbed a shopping cart and started picking up every doll he could reach. He just kept tossing toys into the cart — sometimes two or three of the same kind! I told him, 'Ayushmaan, you can't take so many toys. We have to pay for all this. Mumma doesn't have that much money.' He stopped and I thought he would put the toys back. But instead, he looked at me and said, 'Mumma, you don't need money. You have a card!' I couldn't stop laughing. How do you explain to a child that a credit card actually requires more money?' she recalled.

From flight to freefall: How TN based Archana Thiagarajan led India to glory

Until the 1960s, scientists believed that diving beyond 38 metres (around 125 feet), could kill a human. The pressure, they thought, would crush the lungs. But in 1952, an Italian diver Raimondo Bucher took a 39-metre-plunge and came back up, proving them wrong. Since then, freedivers have been going deeper. Some use ropes, some fins, some add weights, and one discipline has crossed the 200-metre mark. But the risk is real. Seawater is 840 times denser than air, and as you sink, the pressure builds quickly. The deeper you go, the heavier it gets. And yet, freedivers return for tranquility and slow fall. 'What draws me to freediving, is the calmness and stillness. It's just you and your body,' says Tamil Nadu-based Archana Thiagarajan. 'I usually close my eyes. It's like being in space, weightless, free-falling, neutrally buoyant.' A former squadron leader in the Indian Air Force, Archana, never expected to find a space in this world. But earlier this year, she made history. At the 34th AIDA Freediving World Championship in Wakayama, Japan (held from 28 June to 2 July, 2025), Archana became the first Indian woman to represent the country. In her debut appearance, she set four new national records across all pool disciplines (DYNB: 137m; DYN: 125m; DNF: 94m; STA: 4:22 Sec), bringing her total to ten (all in pool disciplines). A sabbatical in Indonesia in April 2024 with her husband (also ex-IAF), had sparked a casual interest in freediving after initially considering scuba. They had both retired from the IAF on 5 January, 2024 and planned a year of travel. Now, that spark has taken her to the world stage.

Archana Thiagarajan makes a splash at AIDA Freediving World Championship

Archana Thiagarajan is now lolling around at her parents' home in Perungalathur, diving headlong into a world of delectable inactivity. She deserves the spot of relaxation she has found in a familiar environment. Squadron Leader Archana (retd) is back from the 34th AIDA Freediving World Championship in Wakayama, Japan. She is the first woman to represent India at this championship, which will remain memorable not just for the afore-mentioned reason. The 33-year-old athlete set four new national records across all pool disciplines, making her a 10-time national record holder in freediving. Her journey into freediving happened by chance during a sabbatical in Indonesia, after she completed a decade of service with the Indian Air Force as technical officer. Taking notice of the accolades she had won at the national level representing Tamil Nadu, an instructor introduced her to freediving, the practice of diving underwater on a single breath without the use of a breathing apparatus. In less than one-and-a-half years, Archana has proved discipline and determination can break barriers in any sport. 'Forty-nine countries and 234 participants were in the fray in this international event, and I was able to break the Indian national record in all the four events that I took part in,' says Archana. Freediving is open to those aged above 18. Over the last six months, she has been preparing for the competition, training at Puducherry and Philippines as well as at pools in Chennai and Bangalore. 'Freediving is considered an extreme sport and you cannot train alone, so my husband has been a pillar of strength. He takes care of my safety,' says Archana. She notes that her background in NCC and her stint with the Indian Air Force have helped her in the sport. An avid yoga enthusiast, Archana says the sport emphasises relaxation, breath control and mental discipline over physical strength. She adds, 'To hold your breath for four minutes underwater, one would need considerable mind power. I have to stay calm; and overcoming these challenges related to the mind was possible with yoga.'
