Cash registers stolen from South Barrington, Illinois businesses dumped in Chicago

Chicago police are investigating after half a dozen cash registers stolen from businesses in South Barrington, Illinois were dumped in an empty lot behind a residence in the city. Chicago police said they were called to the 900 block of West 37th Place in the city's Bridgeport neighborhood around 5 a.m. for a report about the registers. Police confirmed the registers were stolen from businesses in South Barrington, but did not offer further details. A neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, told CBS News Chicago that he saw four men take the cash registers and slamming them down onto the ground as far as they could to break them open, before going through the debris and pulling things out. Police said a black Hyundai sedan was seen fleeing the area in an unknown direction after the registers were smashed open. No one is currently in custody. An investigation by Area One detectives is ongoing.

CHICAGO – Chicago police are searching for a missing 31-year-old man who may be in need of medical attention. Police said Jamar Evans was last seen Friday, May 9 in the area of the 700 block of North Pulaski Avenue in Garfield Park. He was last seen wearing a black and red baseball cap, red sweater and black pants. LATEST CASES: Missing people in Chicagoland Evans is 5'5″ and weighs 150 pounds. He also has black hair and brown eyes, according to investigators. Police said Evans may also be in need of medical attention. Chicago shooting near Bronzeville elementary school injures 14-year-old boy, police say

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood, right by an elementary school, Chicago police said. Police said the teen was outside on the sidewalk of the 300-block of East 37th Street around 3:20 p.m. when he was approached by an unknown person. That person pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting the teen in the right leg. The shooting happened right by Ida B. Wells Preparatory Elementary School. The teen was taken to Insight Hospital in fair condition, police said. An investigation by Area One detectives is ongoing. No further information has been released. Police did not say whether anyone was in custody.

Chicago police search for man who broke into Southwest Side businesses

CHICAGO – Chicago police are searching for a man who reportedly broke into at least five Southwest Side businesses over the course of three days. Police said the incidents happened in Brighton Park, McKinley Park, Bridgeport and Back of the Yards. The first incident happened at around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the 4000 block of South Western Avenue. Three more similar incidents happened a few nights later along the 3300 and 3500 blocks of South Archer Avenue, along with the 1700 block of West 47th Street, according to investigators. SEE ALSO: Chicago police seek suspect in string of Walgreens robberies on Northwest Side Police said a fifth incident happened Saturday, April 19 in the 3500 block of South Halsted Street. In each of the five incident, police said the suspect was a man between 25 and 40 years of age who stands 5'8″ to 6'1″ and weighs roughly 160 to 220 pounds. He was also wearing mostly dark clothing. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Area One Detectives at 312-747-8384 or submit an anonymous tip at and use reference # P25-1-034. Additional tips from CPD: Keep the perimeter of your property well lit. Keep doors and windows secured. Immediately repair any broken windows, doors or locks. Immediately report suspicious activity. Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police. If video surveillance is available, save a copy of the incident for investigating detectives. If approached by a witness to the incident, request their contact information. If you are a victim do not touch anything, call police immediately. Police said Keith Davis is missing from the Englewood neighborhood and was last seen by a family member on Nov. 11, 2023. LATEST CASES: Missing people in Chicagoland At the time of his disappearance, police said Davis was likely wearing a black Pea Coat. He is known to frequent the 7300 block of South Stewart Avenue, also in Englewood. Davis is 5'7″, weighs 175 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
