Sainsbury's announces Nectar revolution - that could save you £150 a year

Sainsbury's is looking to reward shoppers by introducing a new change to the supermarket's Nectar loyalty scheme. The high street giant has announced that highly personalised Your Nectar Prices will now be available at the till from next Friday (July 25). Your Nectar Prices, which offer shopper discounts on their favourite products, can only be accessed online or through the Smart Shop app or a self-scanner. But from next Friday, you can access the discounts in-store by swiping your Nectar card at the till in a move the supermarket thinks could save people £150 a year. Mark Given, chief marketing, data and sustainability officer at Sainsbury's, told The Sun: 'We're leading the way by making loyalty personal. 'Shoppers want to feel recognised and rewarded and while Nectar Prices are for everyone, we know our customers love an offer that is made just for them. 'That's exactly what Your Nectar Prices delivers – it's about giving customers those extra savings on the products they love and buy most.' Every scheme is different, with only a handful offering points. Most offer extra savings via the app, so make sure you check these before heading out to shop. Here are the key benefits each supermarket offers it members: Asda Rewards Variable cashback on selected products and 'missions' Co-op Member Coupons in app and member prices Iceland Bonus Card £1 back for every £20 you load onto your card and member prices Lidl Plus Coupons in app M&S Sparks Coupons in app and the chance to win your shop Morrisons More Points on selected products and member prices Sainsbury's Nectar One point per £1 spent with extra points available on selected products via app and member prices Tesco Clubcard One point per £1 spent and member prices MyWaitrose Coupons in app and free hot drink The move came after Sainsbury's shoppers were warned to lock their Nectar cards to avoid their points from being stolen. More Trending The supermarket was forced to introduce the lock function thanks to scammers draining accounts of hard-earned Nectar points. Shoppers saving up their points to spend at Christmas or on other special occasions have been left 'really upset' and disappointed to find their balance had been spent, sometimes in branches they had never visited before. The ease with which scammers can access Nectar points was revealed in January, when This Is Money revealed more than 12million points worth some £63,000 had been taken in the year prior. The popular supermarket worked with grower partners Bruce Farms and supplier Scotty Brand to bring this unique variety to the shop floors. Geoff Bruce, director at Bruce Farms, said: "The golden raspberries have been a real passion project for us and it's exciting to be at the forefront of introducing something new to the Scottish soft fruit sector. "As growers, we're always looking for ways to innovate and explore different varieties that not only thrive in our climate but also offer a unique selling point for customers." What shoppers can expect from bizarre new item In addition to the distinctive yellow colour, the fruit is said to have a "delicate texture" and bring all the flavour of traditional varieties of the beloved berry. Andrew Scott, development manager at Scotty Brand, added: "Our long-standing partnership with Asda has enabled us to bring this exclusive new product to market, supporting growth and diversification within the sector while showcasing the exceptional quality of Scottish produce and the vital role of local, sustainable growing practices." With six months until Christmas, it's time to start saving!

Yes, that's right - it's exactly six months until Christmas! But have you started saving your pennies or planning that magical trip to see Santa? If not, don't worry! Jordon Cox is live from Chessington with some fantastic festive deals to help you get ahead of the Christmas chaos. Advertisement. We earn commission from some links on this page. When you click on a link, our affiliate partner sets cookies - you can opt out here. Our full disclosure notice is here. Prices correct at time of publication. SAVE £4 A DAY FOR CHRISTMAS Households spend on average between £660-£1150 each year on Christmas festivities. If you can put away just £4 a day, or £28 a week and you do this consistently for 24 weeks which takes you to the start of December. You'll have £672, this should cover most if not all of your Christmas shopping including food, drinks and gifts. So if you can set a reminder each day, or even a standing order to move some money from your current account to a separate savings account, you'll reach your goal. SAVING POTS Whenever you find a deal on something, use a restaurant voucher or use a discount code online. The savings that you make - put it directly into your savings. If a pair of shoes you're buying online cost £50, but you had a code getting £10 off, and only paid £40 take £10 out of your current account and put it into a separate savings pot. This is the money that would have gone to the company you're buying from if you didn't have a code, but instead is staying in your own pocket. Jordon did this for a whole year, and by the end, had nearly £2,000 extra in the bank. ASDA CHRISTMAS SAVINGS CARD If you know you'll be doing your Christmas shopping at Asda, there's an offer on until Sunday 29th June to get free cash to spend. Head onto the Asda Rewards app and click on the Christmas Savings Card on the home screen. If you deposit £60 or more onto the card, you'll get a bonus £6 free to use on your shopping. This money you deposit will be locked away until the Christmas period, so make sure it's money that you don't need right now. It's basically £6 free, which is a very high return VS other supermarkets. CHRISTMAS DEALS: CHRISTMAS MARKET TRIPS FROM £79 - BRUGES COACH TRIP & MYSTERY CHRISTMAS MARKET Wowcher has a few different deals, one of them is a coach trip to Bruges, picking up from several stops in London and Kent. It costs £79pp for a day trip to the Bruges markets, and back again in one day - and departs on several selected dates from 22nd November to 21st December. You'll have to pay an admin charge of £4 when booking too. You can also get a Mystery Holiday Christmas market trip for £99pp. You won't know where you're going, and the company will book everything for you, including flights from your local airport and a 2 night stay in a hotel. You have to purchase a minimum of 2 people, and it has a £7.99 admin fee. CHRISTMAS TREES & DECORATIONS Buying things off season is typically a good way to save money. In December, demand is going to be very high, so there may be less reason for companies to offer deals and discounts. Whereas right now, you can find a lot of Christmas stock still online and either discounted or on clearance at decent prices. So if you order things now, you can shove it all in the attic and forget about it until December, taking a bit of stress away, and there's less money you have to pay in 6 months' time. On the Debenhams website, there were a lot of discounted trees that you can have delivered in their Christmas sale. 6ft artificial tree with a stand is 70% off at £23.99 (usual price £79.99). 7ft flocked Christmas tree with a stand is usually £139.99, but is discounted to £59.99. 2 baubles for 50p and a small 3ft Christmas tree for £4 which can be delivered or collected in store. If you head to Leon today and wear a Christmas jumper, and say the phrase 'I'm here to speak with Santa' - you can get a free main meal (up to £9). You have to get there and order before 3pm, it's valid today (Wednesday 25th only). Not valid at airports, train stations or motorways.
