Mirza, Farhan star as Pak beat BD

Pakistan's Salman Mirza (R) celebrates after taking the wicket of Bangladesh's Jaker Ali (L) during the third and final Twenty20 international at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Photo: AFP Paceman Salman Mirza grabbed three wickets and opener Sahibzada Farhan struck an aggressive fifty in Pakistan's consolation 74-run win in the third T20 on Thursday as Bangladesh took the series 2-1. Mirza, playing only his third international, demolished Bangladesh's top order with figures of 3-19 as the home team was bowled out for 104 in 16.4 overs in Dhaka. Farhan's 41-ball 63 studded with five sixes and six fours got Pakistan off to a strong start and Hasan Nawaz clubbed 33 off 17 balls to help them to 178-7 after they were sent in to bat. Mirza struck with the second ball of the innings, dismissing Tanzid Hassan caught behind for nought which triggered a batting collapse. Only Mohammad Saifuddin contributed a score of note as he made an unbeaten 35. Mohammad Naim (10) was the only other Bangladesh batsman to reach double figures. Seamer Faheem Ashraf took 2-13 and Mohammad Nawaz wrapped up the win with the final two wickets. Having already won their first-ever T20 series against Pakistan with victories in the first two matches, Bangladesh rested five of their main players including spearhead Mustafizur Rahman. Pakistan had scored 110 and 125 in the first two matches — also in Dhaka — losing by seven wickets and eight runs respectively. Farhan, who replaced Fakhar Zaman as one of two changes for Pakistan, put on 82 for the opening stand with Saim Ayub (21). Farhan fell in the 12th over to spinner Nasum Ahmed who finished with 2-22 in his four overs. Pace bowler Taskin Ahmed took 3-38. Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with 27 off 16 balls down the order to help Pakistan add 46 runs in the last five overs. Pak, Afghanistan, UAE in 'final talks' over tri-nation series The arrangements for a tri-nation series involving Pakistan, Afghanistan and the UAE have entered their final stages, with an official announcement expected after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, sources said on Thursday. According to insiders, discussions regarding the series will be finalised on the sidelines of the ACC sessions. The complete schedule and venues are likely to be revealed once the meeting concludes. Sources further indicated that the tri-series will be held in the UAE ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Initially, Pakistan was scheduled to host Afghanistan in a bilateral series this August. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed converting the series into a tri-nation event and moving it to the UAE. The objective of hosting the series in the UAE is to help players adapt to the conditions ahead of the Asia Cup. It is to be noted that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the ACC is set to take place in Bangladesh today, with an overwhelming majority of member nations confirming participation. Out of the 25 ACC members, 24 have confirmed their attendance, far exceeding the required quorum of 13 in what is being hailed as a major diplomatic success for ACC President Mohsin Naqvi. Despite initial resistance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and Oman Cricket over the venue, Naqvi's persistent efforts ensured that the AGM would proceed as scheduled in the Bangladeshi capital. Significantly, India is also participating in the meeting virtually, with BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla expected to attend online a marked shift from the board's earlier stance.

India-Pakistan Match Likely In Asia Cup 2025. BCCI Says Announcement On...

The Indian cricket team is likely to play Pakistan as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be hosting the Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September, according to PTI. The reported quoted an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) source who confirmed that the highly-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is likely to take place as planned. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also said that the official announcement on the competition and the match will be made in a 'few days' time'. This was after an ACC meeting that all 25 member nations attended to discuss the venue for the event. BCCI was represented by its vice-president Rajeev Shukla virtually. "The BCCI will host the Asia Cup in the UAE. India is likely to play all its matches in Dubai. There are still deliberations on scheduling," an ACC source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. The tournament will be held for a little over fortnight in September. It has to end before the final week of the month as India's Test series against West Indies is scheduled from that point. "Our vice-president Rajeev Shukla ji attended the ACC meeting. He will brief the members. I don't believe in speculations so you will get to know officially in a few days time," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI. In Dhaka, ACC chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board head Mohsin Naqvi also kept cards close to his chest when asked about a possible Indo-Pak match at the continental event. "We will announce it shortly. We have had discussions with the BCCI and there are a few issues that we will resolve shortly. All 25 members attended the meet either physically or virtually. We are all on same page," Naqvi told reporters. It is also learnt that due to BCCI's pressure, only two out of 10 items on the agenda, were discussed.

Asia Cup 2025: India, Pakistan likely to be in same group; BCCI to announce schedule

India's Rohit Sharma and Pakistan's Babar Azam in a file photo. Mumbai: India and Pakistan are likely to be drawn into the same group for the Asia Cup 2025, which will be held in UAE, TOI has learnt. With the BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla, who is the BCCI's representative in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), attending the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dhaka virtually on Thursday, all hurdles have now been cleared for the much-anticipated continental T20 tournament, which had been thrown into uncertainty following the terror attack in Pahalgam. "It has been decided that the Asia Cup will be held. Shukla and Asian Cricket Council president and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi are scheduled to meet in the coming days to finalise the venues and the tournament schedule. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Being the designated hosts, the BCCI is likely to announce the schedule of the tournament in the next few days," a reliable source told TOI. Shukla and Naqvi will also engage with sponsors at the earliest opportunity, aiming to allow sufficient time for commercial planning. After the ACC meeting in Dhaka, Naqvi said all the 25 members attended the AGM - some joined virtually. "The meeting was attended by all 25 members. The BCCI will inform us about the Asia Cup in a few days," he told reporters. The Asia Cup clash in September will be the first time that there will be an India versus Pakistan clash on the cricket field since tensions heightened in April-May between the two neighbours, following the Pahalgam attack on April 22 with India launching 'Operation Sindoor' on Pakistan. "The BCCI is in touch with the Indian government for permission to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup," the source said. Despite the BCCI being the official hosts of the tournament, it will be played in UAE, as the ACC had decided to host the Asia Cup in a neutral country when it was either India or Pakistan's turn to be official hosts. According to the source, the BCCI is willing to host the tournament at a neutral venue, identifying Dubai and Abu Dhabi as the likely locations. "The BCCI has signed a deal with the Emirates Cricket Board for three venues, but only two will be used for the Asia Cup," he said. The BCCI has proposed a tentative window from the third or fourth week of September for the tournament, which will act as a preparatory event for the T20 World Cup, set to be held in February in India and Sri Lanka next year. Eight teams are set to participate in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup. "The budget of the Asia Cup, as well as six other ACC tournaments this year, was passed in the AGM today. The election was deferred, while the AGM was adjourned. It will be continued at a later date," a source said. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host the Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September with a formal announcement set to be made soon. The developments come in after an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting that concluded in Dhaka on Thursday. "The BCCI will host the Asia Cup in the UAE. India is likely to play all its matches in Dubai. There are still deliberations on scheduling," an ACC source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. Although the dates are yet to be finalised, the Asia Cup 2025 will be held for a little over fortnight in September ahead of the India vs West Indies Test series. India will play West Indies in a two-match Test series starting from October 2. "Our vice-president Rajeev Shukla ji attended the ACC meeting. He will brief the members. I don't believe in speculations so you will get to know officially in a few days time," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said.
